If the boyfriend wasn't apprehended for several days and didn't inform anyone she was missing for a while, a 200 mile search radius may not be sufficient.

OT My parents bought the old Stardust Motel in Marfa. around 1968. I have no idea how old you are but do remember Sheriff Rick Thompson?
I sent you a message, Sulamith.

Please forgive if this posts twice, I seem to have lost a draft. I'm so sad about today's developments. The outcome of this looks bleak, but I'm still hanging on to a shred of hope. I just have to. At the very least, I pray that Zuzu will be be returned to her family. I can't think of much worse than never knowing what happened to your loved one.

Thanks to all here at WS for the updates, y'all are such a wonderful group of people. Tears tonight for Zuzu and her family.

I have nothing new to add, but wanted to show my support to Zuzu and her family.

So there are two "help me" funds
Anyone know if both are legit? I hate those. I hope they are on the level (both of them)

From the Alpine PD:

****UPDATE, 0935 HRS, October 20, 2016****

ADDITIONAL AGENCIES, ALONG WITH THEIR RESOURCES, HAVE JOINED THE SEARCH THIS MORNING INCLUDING TEXAS EQUUSEARCH. TEAMS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE COVERING A LARGE PORTION OF THE SEARCH AREAS. INVESTIGATORS CONTINUE TO FOLLOW UP ON LEADS BEING DEVELOPED DURING THE INVESTIGATION AND CONTINUE TO RECEIVE TIPS BEING CALLED IN. INTERVIEWS WITH WITNESSES ARE CONTINUING.

For those of you who've been around here a while:
How do the police go about searching for phone pings of a person of legal age who is missing / cannot approve a search? Do they ask for a warrant for the phone co? Is that sealed?
How about for the bf? Since he lawyered up they can't ping his phone?

They would need to get a warrant for both, regarding the BF, they would need to present evidence to a judge to determine if a warrant is granted. Unless he gives permission himself (I think)

If the missing adult is on a family plan, which can happen then whichever family member the plan belongs to can give permission.

Whether the warrants are sealed or not depends on the police dept and the circumstances.

*This is off the top of my head, if anyone knows differently please correct me

Thanks. And I'm relieved to see that's the one getting the most contributions then. The other may be on the level as well, I just hate it when I see multiple fund raising. I get cautious.

I love how small towns really pull together when it's needed. Reading replies there is very heartwarming!!

Yes. I want so bad for Zuzu to come home safely. Cases like this are the saddest, most depressing cases on WS. Such a nice family. Such an amazing woman.

Sorry that I'm not good with copying, highlighting, etc. yet, but this article about Zuzu states that the on-again, off-again boyfriend is "one of multiple people of interest in the case". Perhaps I just missed it, but I don't remember reading "multiple" before. Going back to read...

That's the first I've seen "multiple." What we have to realize is that POI refers to anyone who may have information about a case. So there would be multiple people LE would like to get info from. It doesn't mean someone is a suspect, although the two terms are often used synonymously. Suspect is an actual legal term whereas POI isn't. I don't have time to post a link right now, but it's easy to google.

It's possible the writer reviewed the known stories and based 'multiple' on the bf and the 'unidentified man' referenced in the Stripes convenience store report. http://www.cbs7.com/content/news/Blog-Search-continues-for-missing-Alpine-student-397314771.html We don't know if the person in Stripes was verified to be Zuzu, or the identity of the man in Stripes.

There hasn't been talk of the convenience store in Zuzu's family's interviews. This story quotes the police “The residence of the boyfriend was Zuzu’s last actual known location,” said Capt. Darrell Losoya. http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/texa...-search-for-missing-college-student/337168430.

All MOO

Good points, Lilibet and TTB. Thank you. I probably read too much into that statement and if not, I hope we find out what was meant by it soon. Gah! :scared:

I grew up in Marfa, near Alpine. It was a long time ago but I wonder if a person tried to get her into drug trafficking via Ojinaga.

It's gone very quiet today.

Just saw this pop up though

Sul Ross President Issues Statement on Missing Student

Dr. Bill Kibler, president of Sul Ross State University has issued a statement regarding the disappearance of Zuzu Verk.

"During the past week, the uncertainty associated with the unknown has pervaded the usually-peaceful and safe environment the Sul Ross State University family enjoys. The disappearance of one of our students, Zuzu Verk, has deeply affected the entire campus community as well as Alpine and the surrounding area.

Sul Ross, along with the extended community, has responded admirably in various ways, particularly through extensive participation in the numerous searches undertaken in efforts to locate Zuzu. The active support and countless prayers are deeply appreciated by family and friends.

Throughout this crisis, we, as a university family, remain hopeful that this story has a happy ending. We pledge our continuous support and participation in the search for our friend and Sul Ross family member, Zuzu Verk.
I urge anyone with information regarding Zuzu’s whereabouts to contact the Alpine Police Department at (432) 837-3486."

I feel like they're taking their time releasing any information found... building a case, maybe?
