The van pictured is a Ford Transit. I wonder if they have a description other than from the five-year-olds.

It's pitched as an upgrade to one's business's service van or wagon.

Wiki

That's how common the Ford transit is - Mercedes, Renault, Volkswagen, Toyota and others all make very similar panel vans that are very common on the UK roads. From a distance or a quick glance at it, I wouldn't be able to tell one from another, they are that similar in size and shape.

Those pictures of her are just killing me. What a sweetheart she is. How did the guy get her to climb into the van? Did he have a box of puppies or something?

And I wonder how many other kids were there?

'April’s mother knew she was playing with another little girl and when she didn’t come home she went to the other girl’s house to look for her.

‘That’s when the girl said April had been taken in a van.’

Local councillor Michael Williams said: ’I just feel so sad. They are such a lovely family, very caring, always helping people.

'They are a really nice young couple who recently helped to create a very nice garden on their estate with fruit trees.

Insp Kevin Davies said the fire service and police dog teams had been mobilised, and vehicle check-points set up on roads going in and out of Machynlleth.

He said: "There is mention of a grey van, we're looking at that as one of the angles of inquiry. Nothing is being overlooked. It's an angle, it's an inquiry that we're pursuing along with other angles.

"We're searching the area. Everything we can possibly do is being done.

"The family are obviously distressed. We're trying to keep them informed, we've got an officer allocated to them just to keep them informed as to what's happening. Any information, we'll share with them.".

BBC's expanded the article linked above:
Brian Vaughn, whose daughter goes to junior school with April, described her as a "lovely little girl". He said: "Everybody just wants her back, really.

"Whatever we've got to do, we'll do it. We're just hoping for the best, that she's closer rather than further away."

Machynlleth town councillor Michael Williams was among those taking part in the search. He said local people were "stunned".

"I've lived here all my life and I've never heard of anything like this before. The family must be devastated, and I hope to goodness the little girl is found without any huge delay.

"It just shows a town like Machynlleth when something does happen the people are out here, they've been out on the streets earlier looking - and here we are now, we will do whatever the police advise us to do to help look for this little child."

Oh dear. I just saw this. Does anyone have a link to the facebook page so I can post that?

Absolutely we need an amber alert. I hope they got the road blocks up quickly.

Reading the flyer was devastating for me
I have no words
I was riding bikes with my 6&7 yr olds today and trying to explain
Why they can't go alone,
I asked if they remembered Mickey
Then they understood

Praying this darling little girl makes it home safely to her parents. I can't even begin to imagine how they're feeling right now.

It makes me feel somewhat better knowing how tight knit the community is. Hopefully with everyone out searching something will be found very soon, something which will lead LE straight to April.

So so sad. I lived a few miles from where sarah payne was abducted. I remember the feeling of just complete helplessness trying to find her and getting nowhere. I agree this feels so much the same, but I cant help but cross my fingers and silently hope she is found ok.

I wonder if she knew her abductor as she got into the vehicle so easily outside her own home.

Hundreds of locals in the small market town on the southern outskirts of the Snowdonia national park are believed to have taken part in the hunt for April, with volunteers coming in from towns throughout Wales including Caernarfon, Rhayader and Aberaeron. Maps of the area and pictures of brown-haired April were handed out to those who turned up to help.

But community leaders have said they are in urgent need of more assistance.

A search volunteer, Anwen Morris, said locals had searched an area with a 30-mile radius overnight using quad bikes and off-road vehicles.

BBC Wales reporter Cemlyn Davies at the scene

I've already heard shouts and cries of 'April' as the search resumed this morning.

I'm standing near the spot where the five-year-old was last seen around half past seven on Monday evening.

The community has really pulled together and that was clear last night.

A few hundred people gathered at the town's leisure centre.

I was there to watch them come together. They divided themselves into groups to go out into the town to keep searching for April.

This morning, I've spoken to the local councillors who have said they will do everything possible to help April Jones's family at this very, very difficult time.

They've described the family as a wonderful family who play their part in the community, and they'll do everything they can to help find April safe and sound.

There are also a couple of short videos at the link.

The van is now being described as grey in colour, which would be far less common then a white one. However, this description is from a five year old who saw the van in the dark. In theory it could be silver, or dirty, or maybe the fact it was dark out made her think it was grey.
