According to a family friend on the news the family had come back from parents evening and Mum had gone straight in to put dinner on. April was playing out for 10minutes and then Mum came out to get her. So I don't think she was going to be playing out for long - just until her Mum had put dinner on.

Indeed. (Police and Criminal Evidence Act - PACE). Once someone is charged with a criminal offence, the police cannot question the suspect further. This is why they question the suspect as extensively as they can before they decide to charge them. The police do not decide whether the case proceeds to trial either - that is decided by a quango called the Crown Prosecution Service.

Yes but the point is not so much about the time rather than being unsupervised by any adult at such a young age, as you say it all depends on the circumstances, if the kids are in sight, if there are older kids there who can look after the younger ones, and so on. Anyway its a moot point at the moment

Now that pink ribbons have been introduced as a show of solidarity (because spending all hours in the cold and wet searching for April didn't show that) a fund is now being set up for the family. Surely if a fund is required it is for the search and rescue teams at this point?

I agree! Something is not right. The pink ribbons thing I don't understand - as you said, there are press photographs showing hundreds of people dressed for the weather and lining up to offer their time free - that is real solidarity. No-one has forgotten April!

Regarding the fund - April's Dad can't work because of a medical condition and Mum works in a shop apparently, so it has said in the MSM,so they will get benefits, as they have children, (Tax credits presumably, child benefit, housing benefit etc) which won't change - so I don't understand what the fund is for either.
Something is niggling at me but I don't know what.
 
Its not the family that have set up the fund though, is it? The mayor of the town was on Sky telling us about the fund and the fact that people from afar want to help but all they can offer is money so that money has to go somewhere.

They might get benefits but they certainly wont be well off even so.

I dont get the pink ribbon thing either.
 
The fund is going to be administered by the council on whatever they feel it could be spent on, not by the family, and Im sure its not going to go into the millions! And accounts not be transparent, cough
 
Every missing child case I have known of in the UK has had a fund set up at some point, I dont think there is anything weird about it. People like to help, some cant get out there & search so feel like they are doing something by donating. The donations are probably given to either buy April whatever she wants/needs if she is found alive, or God forbid, pay for her funeral expenses :(

I'm not comfortable with it either, but I kind of understand it being set up.

Whilst there have been hundreds of people out searching, there are many thousands more who cannot participate for numerous reasons. So they sit at home feeling guilty about not helping a family who are desperate for help, and try to help in the only way they can. There will always be people who try to solve a problem by throwing money at it, but you can bet there are a good number of old dears who will send in a couple of quid they can't really afford to part with, because they want to feel they are helping.
 
I don't find the pink ribbons strange at all.

In the US that frequently happens... it is a sign of support.

I will light my pink candle tonight in the US for April.
 
Pink was Aprils favourite colour, people want to show support and ribbons are something you can wear to show your support. My Facebook is awash of pink ribbons just now, all for April.
 
I agree, i think it's just another way of people coming together and showing that April is truly in everyones hearts.

Perhaps it was to acknowledge the huge response from the local community - ie everyone desperate to help but police (at least yesterday) said to leave it to the specialist teams. So a way for the local community to continue to show their support without potentially jeopardising the searches.
 
is there any chance that the suspect was at parent night? iirc he has a child near the same age that lives near April.

just wondering how he just happened to be there at that exact time.

Perhaps he was visiting his children? Or looking after them while their mother was at the school?

Pink ribbons are being worn and tied across the town of Machynlleth, as a town unites in the hope of finding five-year-old April Jones.

As the urgent race against time entered its fourth night, police chiefs spoke of the "humbling" wave of support for their efforts.

More than 2,500 calls with information have been received by police in response to their appeal yesterday.

Residents across the small Mid-Wales town of Machynlleth also donned pink ribbons today in a symbolic gesture of continued hope.

I find the pink ribbon thing a bit, can't really think of the word without coming over heartless, tacky, naff, jumping on the bandwagon; and you can always bet there is some chancer opening up a Pink ribbon shop.

However, a small symbol of solidarity such as the pink ribbon, may give the community a feeling of togetherness in what must be a really $h1te time.

As for funds, it lets those who can do nothing, contribute something, even if it goes to local helicopter team (which is largely charity funded)which used heat sensitive cameras in the search.

Maybe the fund will go to Cerebral Palsy charities.

Or the best result in the world, April is found safe and the fund is used to take her on the holiday of her dreams.
 
I know water cadaver dogs were used today at the river, Im wondering if they will start searches in houses and the general neighbourhood at all
