"Friends not guilty" "used to his lifestyle"

Wtf!

Does anyone else find it odd that the interviewer asks Smeath, "Corrie's friends, the lads on base, how are they coping?" - to which he answers, "they're not feeling guilty..."

To me, that seems such an odd way to answer the question of how they're coping with his absence. Maybe, "they're remaining positive" or they are "sulking" or "happy" or "praying". But "they are not feeling guilty" is just so unexpected of a way to answer to this question, it raised my eyebrow due to its awkwardness.

I still don't buy it. They wouldnt know they had gone home before corrie at the time. If he always stayed out, where did he stay? They must know. How did he usually pick his car up next day? They must know. They didn't know he was missing they said didn't they? Well if that was his "lifestyle" they did know. They can't have it both ways. Know it all knows nothing as my dad always said.

There is a difference between being "missing" and being a dirty stop-out with someone you've hooked up with on a night out. They didn't worry that he wasn't around base because they were aware he stays out partying (or whatever)

It's such a strange way to answer the question, I agree. I mean who even says that?!

Maybe the interviewer went through some trial questions with Smeath before the televised interview, and it was phrased as "how are they feeling, do they feel any guilt over going home without checking where he was?" and the second part was snipped out of the televised version?

I was just about to say something very similar Amonet.......that vid snippet was just 43 secs. It wasn't a blind question and they will already have talked about possible guilty feelings from the lads for leaving without him. After watching the footage of Corrie walking through town on his own, I imagine there will have been a lot of "if onlys"

Very inappropriate and strange response imo. There was so so many other responses he could have given, why this one?

I honestly believe that more went on that night that's not being said, a fight between the group fir example? Maybe nothing at all to do with corrie's disappearance but wouldn't paint them in a great light either

Did LE ever officially rule out this van in relation to Corrie's disappearance? Is Saturday's search taking place near the area the van was found? I'm wondering if there may be a connection.

I had never heard about this white van tbh! Why has it never been made more of?
Interesting

Actually that's more likely, I mean who sits down and does a 43 second interview that has some form of context

If they have I've not seen anything about it.

We don't know yet (do we?) where the search is being carried out, but Methwold is just beyond the NW corner of the Thetford Forest.

Yes, there were other responses....and he gave them -

they are just very sad

they are hoping it’s not the last time they see him

they want him back

they are genuinely, genuinely sad for the family because

they are very close to him themselves

they realise how the family must be feeling so it’s probably harder for them that anybody else, but...

In terms of Corrie...(them going home before Corrie) I don’t think they feel guilty

I just think they want him back

...and they want anybody who’s got any information to help try and find him.

I remember reading the white van was discounted, but can't remember where!

The Sun online dated 21 Oct has a good article which talks about the search at that time and the discounted white van. It also mentions a 4 a.m. time for the mobile phone at BM. I'm not able to post a link but if you google corrie mckeague white van it is one of the articles that comes up.

He was clever in naming the guilt part and outing it. No doubt corries boss who did his confidential reports would have flagged up his behaviour. The SC gives you enough of a tidbit to savour but also enough for you to realise that in reality what is being presented doesnt actually match the Corrie his friends knew. There appears to be an element of indifference , perhaps suggesting awol ? Imo

Interesting that the grandparents and father want to state this in open support of the police right now.

Corrie’s grandparents praise ‘quiet heroes’ police

The grandparents of missing airman Corrie McKeague have called the police ‘quiet heroes’ in the search for their grandson. “You don’t realise how much time and effort the police put in and how much they give of themselves personally and professionally until something like this happens,” says grandmother, Mary McKeague.

Corrie’s grandfather Oliver added: “And sometimes they end up taking so much criticism. It’s sad and unhelpful. “What we’ve seen has been nothing short of incredible and we support their efforts 100 per cent. There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes and we can’t thank them enough.”

I am in agreement where the police are concerned. They have spent so much time on this case.

In their minds, there is still no evidence, so what more can they do that they haven't done already? They are considering every option including going missing by choice and maybe they see this as a strong possibility?

And another good reason for Awol an unsympathetic CO. Another good reason corrie could return, now this guy has gone. After all he's the one responsible for where his guys were and what they got up to and if he didn't know corrie was missing that's ultimately happened on his watch. It's his job to know. JMO.

I am just about to start the public search. No members of public are without a SULSAR member and it is organised to the enth degree. We have all signed disclaimers and we are all aware of what we may possibly find.

I had no idea you were doing it. Good luck today.

Well done you. Hope the weather is kind all day. Don't suppose you can tell us where you are?
