RIP David.

So glad he's been identified. I wonder if we'll ever know the full story.

Just read this elsewhere and came straight to the thread.
Great news that he's been identified, although there are still some mysterious factors here for me.
RIP David Lytton.

Has anyone tried to find out more about him? I've done some cursory googling but not a lot coming up, or at least nothing definite. A couple of potential marriages for men of that name, and some 192 listings in London, not finding any Pakistan connections though.

This is the police site for unidentified bodies in the UK - there are currently 550 listed going back to the 1960's. Beware the post mortem photos.

There are a couple that stand out for me, anyone up for a bit of UK UID sleuthing as I might start a new thread?

How sad eh, 9 hour or so flight, 3/4 hour train ride.. to kill himself on a hill?! Such a puzzle, hope we find out more tomorrow

Oooh Peebles, used to go stay at the Hydro when we were kids and last went there about 10 years ago. Lovely little town. OK, well since he's first / most recent on the list I'll set a thread up once I've picked the kids up.

That's the thing, the location MUST have meant something to him. Why go to all that effort to travel back to die?

If he was 67 when he died, that means he was very likely to have been born in 1949. (maths not my strong point though!)
We know that he was ruled out as a survivor of the plane crash in 1949 but I'm now back to thinking there's a link. Member of his family perhaps?
Don't suppose we know David's actual DOB? I saw one report that said he was 68.

ETA - 1948 or 49. Maths not my strong point ha ha

I think the location must have some major importance, the crash seems logical and fitting

I actually just spent an hour or so trying to see if there's a possible connection to the Lytton Cobbold family (English peers, Lords, barons, etc), because his nose looks similar to me to the nose of David Antony Fromanteel Lytton Cobbold. I perused their family tree, searching for someone who could have been his father/mother or aunt or something, but did not find anything. He could of course be a distant relative not mentioned on that website. http://family-tree.cobboldfht.com/people/a

Yes do that!

Maybe it's much more simple than we thought. Where he was found is called "Indian's Head". Maybe he had lived in India and had fond memories. Connecting the two places he loved, England and India, to die there. Utter speculation!.

RSBM.
By coincidence, I've just been looking at similar.

There's a Lytton Road in Lahore. (For elimination purposes I also googled my surname which is a fairly well known British surname and my maiden names and neither have a road or street in Lahore named after them.)

The Governor General of India was Lord Lytton -

Lahore is very close to the Indian border.
