The whole case has really been too close to home, it could have happened to anyone. I'm not sure if the reason Karen left with AP will ever come out.

Myself and 3 other female friends were meant to go to Sanctuary that same night. We opted to go to ABC instead as an enroute decision.

When i heard about Karen i honestly felt sick to my stomach. i doubt she went home with him and i read on a post on here her friends said she didn't like getting into taxis alone, so i doubt she would get into a strangers car.

The whole thing is strange in some ways, there are so many unconfirmed reportings.

On his profile he looks like he regularly goes out judging by the amount of bar friends he has. However there have been no stories of other's interactions with him. Not even before he was charged.

They also refused to comment on reports Pacteau was captured on CCTV buying acid at a DIY store following Karen’s disappearance.

-.-.-.-.-

The grim discovery was made near the site of a bonfire on lands near High Craigton Farm, eight miles north of Glasgow.

On Tuesday and Wednesday police carried out inquiries with locals in the Milngavie area —where the farm is situated and Pacteau’s grey car had been noticed driving erratically on Monday — trying to establish the location of this fire.

The reporting on this case has been all over the place, most reports said here body was found in a barrel in the shed, however a lot of comment on the bon fire angle.

That will come out in time, the Irish media have reported other stuff about AP more than the widely reported conterfeiting charge.

Maybe barrel - fire - barrel - shed?

Maybe both, fire in barrel.

That would fit it with the speculation online that he got nervous on the Monday and returned to the farm where he set fire to the barrel with the body inside. if true this for me means he had to be familiar with the farm and knew maybe that nobody would be around if he was confident enough a bon fire would go unnoticed.

This case seems to get more and more horrific as more is revealed, it really looks like the actions of a complete monster and a depraved animal. I hope Karens family find comfort and remember the beautiful life she lived and enjoyed. I hope they find some peace with the support of family, friends and the local community in Mourneabbey.

I notice on the link posted by fromGermany, that that link claims AP was buying acid in the B&Q on the Sunday, if this is the case then the staff must have contacted the Police after seeing his image. This guys picture all over TV with him saying the missing woman left his place at 4 AM. If that guy was in buying a barrel and acid on Sunday morning I am sure somebody remembered it and alarm bells were ringing.

Judge sparks outrage by saying murdered student Karen Buckley 'put herself in vulnerable position' by going out drinking
08:40 EST, 22 April 2015

A judge has sparked outrage after he said tragic Karen Buckley was murdered after she 'put herself in a vulnerable position' by drinking with friends.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury made the comments the day after the 21-year-old's body was discovered on a farm near Glasgow last week.

He was speaking as he sentenced another woman, Leanne Roberts, 21, for assaulting a woman outside a bar in Worcester.

Judge Cadbury, 58, said he found it 'very, very worrying' young women drank so much they couldn't remember who they were with.

He went on to compare the situation to the killing of Miss Buckley, even though there is no suggestion the Irish student was drunk on the night she was killed.

The man charged with the murder of Cork student Karen Buckley will stand trial before the end of the year.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said that, in murder cases, the next step after a full committal hearing is the preliminary hearing, which must occur within 110 days from the point of full committal. In Mr Pacteau’s case, the clock will start ticking on the 110-day period following his full committal hearing on Friday.

It means that, in Mr Pacteau’s case, he should be served with the book of evidence within three months, and following his preliminary hearing, a date will be set for trial.

It's outrageous women should be able to go out without the fear of being raped or killed. We don't know if Karen had a lot to drink so he shouldn't be making statements like this. It is not fair to Karen or her family to blame her she had no idea what was going to happen.

Absolutely fuming reading this.

For one thing, there is no evidence that Karen was so drunk she didn't know what she was doing. Secondly, even if she was, that is NOT an invitation for any man to do what he wants with her. She was entitled to go out, to drink alcohol and to do whatever she wanted that night, so long as it was legal.

It is not the responsibility of a women to prevent herself from attacked (by staying at home, remaining sober and dressing in drab clothes from head to toe so as not to 'tempt' any man presumably).

Rather it is up to those men tempted to abduct, rape and or murder women, to not do it.

What next, it was her fault for being attractive? I hope he never gets to judge any case involving crimes against women with that attitude (or any crime for that matter).

I live in Germany and Germans are very similar in their cash use and although they are coming round to cards, I've never seen a German use a card for a bar payment in the 7 years I've been here.

We are much the same in the North East of England. It tends to be cash only.

I'm furious at this. Victim blaming at it's worst! Women (and men for that matter) should be able to get as drunk as they want without fear of being attacked of raped. There is one one person to blame for what happened to Karen and that is AP. Whether she was sober or steaming drunk then it makes no difference.

Steady on.

That judge does not seem to have suggested that Karen was drunk, nor that she was to blame. His remarks were directed at Leanne Roberts who was convicted of assaulting another woman outside a bar. The implication is that she (Roberts) was so drunk that she could have easily been abducted herself and killed.

"I find it incredible that young people can get so drunk that they don't even know who they're with," said Judge Cadbury.
"One only has to think about the horrible situation in Glasgow to see how serious this could have been.
"It's very, very worrying how young girls put themselves in such very, very vulnerable positions."
Judge Cadbury told her: "There is a drinking problem because she (Roberts) can't remember what she did.
"That is a problem. I am sure you are now aware of how vulnerable you made yourself."

I can't see anything wrong with his observation. Let's not forget that it's actually a criminal offence to be drunk and disorderly or drunk and incapable in public.

Police have established that Karen did not leave without her jacket, she had given her jacket to a friend earlier that night because a zip had broken on her dress. The article also says that it is understood the man accused of her murder may have exercised his right to an independent autopsy". Aer Lingus regional have offered to fly Karens remains home to Cork, it is hoped this may happen tomorrow or Friday.

It doesn't matter he made a huge error of judgement even mentioning Karens name in the same sentence, especially when this horrific event is still raw and all the details are not clear.

The judge was wrong. But probably some portion of the population agrees, in any country. It constantly arises in the US when a woman is attacked.

Tom Meagher husband of Jill Meagher , who was murdered in Melbourne in September 2012, said "the family of Karen Buckley have a long road ahead".
Tom Meagher said, “I was utterly heartbroken. I followed the case from the start."Tom said there are triggering moments like the Karen Buckley case". "It’s always going to be there I suppose". Tom said "I remember waking up the morning that I found out what happened and it was just so heartbreaking". "I cried for hours". I had the honour of meeting Tom at a conference last year and he is a true gent and I admire his immense courage. Tom has done great charity work highlighting violence against women in society. In particular the white ribbon campaign

Many of us have sisters and daughters working and studying in foreign countries, us Irish grow fearful when we see horrific events like what happened to Karen, what happened to Karen could have happened to any of our daughters or sisters. I think we have been scared by the events in recent years, the horrific murders of young Irish Women in foreign countries like Jill Meagher, Nicola Furlong, Michaela McAreavey and Karen Buckley. The murders of young Irish women in foreign countries has scared our minds and made us all sleep a bit uneasy thinking of our daughters and sisters on foreign shores.

I think those of us who have sisters and daughters working and studying in foreign countries get a sense of fear when we see cases like Karens that are becoming more common which chills us all.

Yes i agree with you but it would help if these opinions were not getting encouragement by clowns like that Judge, what a remark to come out with less than a week after the body was recovered and when the facts of the case are not yet clear.

A bit OT but I'm of Irish background although longterm in Australia (came out as a young child). Is there less stranger murders in Ireland? I do try to read some Irish papers and my impression was that stranger murder of women and children is very unusual. I remember when a little boy in Cork went missing approximately 7 years ago and it was commented how highly unusual it was. In that case it was some young neighbour that killed him in anger and hid the body.

I am aware of the cases you have mentioned especially Jill and Michaela.
