Killer suspect David Yates had twisted Lord of the Rings double death fantasy

A source said: “David absolutely loved Lord of the Rings and it was clear to see. He named his pet after a character from the books and films and he came up with a nickname for Marelle from the stories.

“Nobody really saw any problem with it but the fact that the Luthien character was involved in this strange double death is chilling.”

So the police had had contact with them before. I'm not surprised.

Also, from the article in the quoted post:

Officers believe Marelle’s murder could have been pre-meditated after claims that Yates took the couple’s beloved dog Sam to his mum’s house in Bearsden the night before the attack.

A source said: “It is thought to have been pre-planned because David brought the dog to his mum’s house the night before and told her he had plans the next day.

“It is not being considered as an accident - it was a brutal, frenzied attack.”

Jeez this is so violent and yet no one thought anything was wrong in their relationship. There must have been a lot going on behind closed doors surely, that level of violence doesn't come out of the blue. Unless there was a psychotic episode involved but how can we ever know as he is no longer here to be assessed.

The wording is interesting in the article suggest both Marelle and baby were attacked with the claw hammer. Rather than just Marelle and then baby died after she did. Not sure if it's just poor writing.

This is such a sad case, really breaks my heart.

All MOO

We can reveal the probe by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner will centre around when cops were told she was missing and what inquiries were carried out

So it appears that police were not previously involved with the couple.

If that's the case he might have used the weapon on her stomach too. Absolutely brutal. Makes me feel sick.
I'm hoping the wording is just wrong, but it's still horrendous either way.

Her school - Sandwood Primary in Penilee, Glasgow - reported her missing on Monday morning when she failed to show for work.

Later that day, a huge search was carried out at Mugdock Country Park in Milngavie, near Glasgow involving police dogs after the Yates’s motor was found in a car park.

But it wasn’t until the following day that police forced the door on Jura Street at 8.40am after her teacher pals again raised the alarm and went to her home to find her.

Wonder why police didn't start their search by going to the house on the Monday ?
