I have driven myself crazy looking for landfill sites in Edinburgh. Google maps on ipad keeps taking me to people's private residences. Do any locals know where the landfills are?

I dont know of any landfills perse... certainly not that would be accessible to the public, but we have 'recycling centres' better known as 'the tip'.

Just noticed a link on that page 'What happens to your rubbish and recycling?'.

which lists all of the places the rubbish gets sorted to. HTH.

I don't think we know yet whether medical advice had been sought

It has been said in the media a few times that Mikaeel's maternal grandmother is a doctor. I don't find it unusual to keep a child off nursery for just over a week either, in the UK it is not compulsory for a child to attend school until the age of 5 and so it should not be frowned upon by the school, in fact I think that they would prefer that he is well before returning. It is not usual for children to be kept from school when they have a cold though and surely with grandmother being a doctor they would know the difference between a cold and something more serious.

My boys share a room but I would only separate them if maybe one was restless enough to be keeping the other awake and had school the next day. Which makes me wonder....did the twin sister attend nursery in the past week?

Early in the first thread there was a comment that a child reported a man knocking on their window that night. Did anything ever come of that report, or was it a rumour that spread quickly and died out?

Police say missing Mikaeel Kular 'may be subject of criminal act'

<snipped>

Police believe it is "entirely possible" missing toddler Mikaeel Kular "may have been the victim of a criminal act".

In a move that signalled a public shift in the focus of the search, ACC Graham said the police response was now a "twin track inquiry" between a missing person search and a criminal investigation.

Apologies if already posted

Wasn't that connected to the child's handprint on someone's door? Think that may have turned out to belong to a child in the house.

Ack, I need to go get my daughter from the bus and then the weekend! Not sure when I can get on here on a real computer, but message me if I need to update the map and I will check in on my phone and ipad.

Prayers for this sweet boy and his family!

I was looking for the landfill where local authorities put the general household waste that isn't recyclable. I don't even know if they have one, or if it is incinerated.

just my 2 cents input here. but i am so sorry this little boy "disappeared" before wednesday night. i have such a strong feeling about this one. too many gaps here and the fact that he was ill and not seen at the nursery school for so long is just to suspicious.

a little 3 year old will not just up and walk out of his home where he knows there is comfort, warmth, love etc. and i don't think someone "took" him either.

Oooh, do you think we can post that reward notice directly on the thread? I think it could make a difference in this case, I honestly do.

In UK the trash lorries/bin lorries usually drop the rubbish at the local council tip/recycling centre, they don't normally drop collected waste directly into landfill. Here is a list of the local council sites:

Maybe someone local can confirm if this is also the case in Edinburgh.

bbm.

"When a child goes missing, families want the whole world to stop and search. There are 140,000 reports of missing children and young people to the police in the UK each year, but only 0.9 per cent of them are aged up to four.

It puts it all into context: a child of three going missing is a very unusual event.

Everybody who goes missing is considered vulnerable but a child of this age immediately hits that higher threshold of concern for the police and everyone else involved in the search. The response needs to be quick to find that child as soon as possible. That’s what’s been seen in the police response and why we put out appeals on thousands of digital screens, at railway stations, bus stops and major shopping centres across the UK.

We’re offering our support to the family, generally it’s by phone or email. It’s incredibly traumatic when it’s gone on for a period of time. From what we know of other cases, families often feel panic, aren’t able to think straight, can’t sleep or eat, and it’s a huge struggle to focus on what they really need to at this time".

According to the video here http://www.edinburgh.gov.uk/info/1055/recycling/436/what_happens_to_your_rubbish_and_recycling/2 its sorted into containers at the waste transfer station then taken by train to Viridor Landfill at Dunbar where any unwanted waste is removed and the remainder is landfilled.

Found this - Edinburgh's landfill waste goes by train from Powderhall to Dunbar, via a company called Viridor.

As the little boy has apparently been ill for a while it would be interesting to know if him sleeping on his own was an I going arrangement until he was better or, if not, was there any particular reason why that night of all nights he was on his own?

I find it a sad state of affairs that nowadays when a child goes missing I always find myself looking at and doubting the parents and close relatives. I don't know why because if god forbid the tables were turned and it was me in that situation I would dread to think that some people may think I had anything to do with my childs disappearance. BUT its a sad fact that nowadays family and close family are becoming increasingly implicated in missing child cases.

Nurse, Before you shout at me, I am not "going there" just sharing my generalistic (is that a word) view which I have shared on other threads also
