We are continually getting new information and data, all of which is under constant review and scrutiny, and it is important to stress that this is not a new case but one we have recategorised following a conference with a number of highly-experienced experts and full review of all evidence to date.
we continue to make excellent progress but the sheer size and complexity of this investigation dictates that we carry out our inquiries carefully and diligently.
This takes time and cannot be rushed, but rest assured we remain determined to identify whoever is responsible.
The police said ultimately a file of evidence will be prepared and will be heard before a jury or the coroner, who will rule on the causes of death "and how, if at all, the insulin from contaminated products contributed to their death".
I want to take the opportunity to thank all the staff at Stepping Hill. I know the past 12 months have been an extremely difficult and challenging time for them but they have offered us their full and unwavering support throughout. It is important to note that we continue to work with them regarding the safeguarding of patients and since we were alerted back in July last year no other products have been contaminated.
The nurse cleared of involvement in poisoning patients at Stepping Hill Hospital has claimed that staff took painkillers home to use 'in case of emergencies' during their holidays.
A total of 22 people suffered hypoglycaemic episodes after saline drips were allegedly sabotaged with insulin between June and July 2011 at Stepping Hill.
