30 Jan 2013 Jacintha Saldanha Should Not Be Treated As A Martyr

The Catholic Church takes the stand that committing suicide is a grave sin and traditionally refuses to accord a standard funeral with religious rites.

This actually hasn't been the case for a while. The current version of the catechism states:

Grave psychological disturbances, anguish, or grave fear of hardship, suffering, or torture can diminish the responsibility of the one committing suicide.

*We should not despair of the eternal salvation of persons who have taken their own lives. By ways known to him alone, God can provide the opportunity for salutary repentance. The Church prays for persons who have taken their own lives.

Yes when they are working in a position such as health care. I would want someone who can handle the pressure with a clear head if my loved one or even myself were in a life and death situation.Doctors and nurses need to be able to focus on their patients and deal with emergency situations.Employers in most states do not even need a reason to fire a worker.

ETA Most anti depressants cloud thinking and response time and someone who tried to kill themselves twice in a short time would need more help then just taking a pill IMO.

I know this is a late response, and for that I'm sorry.

But...

Having been on anti-depressants and sleep assistors for the last 13 years, which included managing to get through one of the toughest nursing schools in the country (and perhaps the world), the bolded part is NOT accurate. When one is properly medicated, on a med that works for the person, they are NOT cloudy or have slow response time; their actions are "normal"...

AD are NOT sedatives. They are (mostly) selective seratonin uptake inhibitors, which can actually SPEED thinking when there is enough seratonin to assist thought processes.

Again, sorry for the late response...but I had to make sure the correct info was out there.

'I hold radio DJs responsible, make them pay for my mortgage': The suicide note left by nurse who hanged herself over Kate Middleton hospital prank call

"It had been thought that Mrs Saldanha was unhappy with how the hospital treated her after falling victim to the prank call.

But she exonerates the hospital from any responsibility in the letter and points the finger of blame at the 2Day FM presenters.

The mother-of-two addressed the message to her managers at the exclusive London hospital.
She said: 'Please accept my apologies. I am truly sorry. Thank you for all your support.'

An inquest into Mrs Saldanha's death was due to begin this week but has been delayed. The nurse was found hanging by a scarf from a wardrobe in her bedroom on December 7."

That's ridiculous. That means she showed calculation & premeditation in her note. Imo I thinks it's ridiculous to blame someone else for your own action to commit suicide. I felt terribly sad for her living through depression when I first heard this story. Now I think she should have been a patient in a hospital instead of working for one. Sounds to me like she wanted a way out and jumped on this opportunity.

I agree! She was on a downward spiral, the 2 Dj's are not responsible and how awful of her to blame them for her killing herself. She tried twice before they ever encountered her,who did she blame those 2 times?

While I believe the djs acted in a way that wasn't legal, moral or ethical, I don't think they are responsible for her mortgage. I hope the radio station comes through with their promise to help the family financially, but I think there was obviously more to the story than her being hoaxed before she killed herself.

One thing I'd like to say is that while WE know her actions aren't logical, the mind of a person in such a desperate state that they're considering suicide isn't logical either. Her note sheds more light on her mental health needs (and that they had been neglected - antidepressants are not magic pills, you need to be regularly seeing a therapist as well if you wish to function in an optimal way).

One of the Australian DJs who made a hoax call about the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge has said she will appear at the inquest into the death of the nurse who answered the phone.

Jacintha Saldanha, 46, was found hanged in nurses' quarters in central London three days after the call.

Mel Greig said she was "determined to answer any questions surrounding her role in these tragic events" and would appear in person or by video link.

The inquest will be held on 2 May.

*snip*

In a statement, Ms Greig's lawyers, Slater & Gordon, said her thoughts had been with the nurse's family ever since her death.

"Ms Greig fully understands their need for answers, which is why she has taken this step to appear as an individual at the inquest.

"She is determined to address any questions surrounding her role in these tragic events as part of the inquest.

"Ms Greig wants the family to know she will answer any questions the coroner or the family's lawyers may have."

Ms Greig, who has not returned to the airwaves since the call, said she would appear at the inquest either in person or by video link.

Mr Christian - who resumed broadcasting in February - has said he does not intend to make an individual statement.

Announcing details of the inquest last month, Coroner Dr Fiona Wilcox said she had granted anonymity to a duty nurse who might have been one of the last people to speak to Mrs Saldanha on the night of the prank call.

Hey remember how Austerio was going to give the nurses family all their advertising revenue from December last year .. Did that happen?

I'm actually disgusted by the mortgage comment in her note .. I've lost all sympathy for this nurse.

I cannot believe that JS wrote those three suicide notes herself from what we have been told about her. The words used do not sound as if they would have been written by a female about to commit suicide. They sound more like what a male businessman or manager would write as they are so practical and unemotional. Also they did not appear until about a week after she died and only typewritten copies were given to her husband. Surely she would have written a loving letter to her family rather than just instructions about where she was to be buried. IMO the suicide notes could have been forged later or JS was coerced into writing them, told to stand on a chair, a scarf tied around her neck and then pushed off to make her death look like suicide.

How did she know the names of the DJs before she died and how to spell them? Their names were not released until after she died.

Also there is an inconsistency in that a letter was found in her briefcase criticising the hospital and then this article says that she thanks the hospital for their support!

I don't believe it.

Wow! Excellent points!

Sounds very fishy.

Why would someone want to kill the nurse? I am pretty sure names of DJs were released before she died.
As we don't know her personally, I fail to see how we can decide what she would or wouldn't write in her suicide note.

^^^ Oooooh interesting .. Dr Vaz perhaps?

No I do not really suspect Dr Vaz unless he is protecting the perpetrator if the suicide notes were, in fact, forged or done by her under coercion. I think Vaz suspects foul play as do many others.

IMO these two suicide notes state two very important messages:

1. That JS thanked the hospital for their support

2. That the DJs are to blame and therefore they should pay her mortgage now.

Who would benefit most from these messages being believed to have been written by JS and being spread around the world? (not the family or the DJs)

Who gave these two suicide notes to the media? (The family are angry about their publication)

Why were they published without the family's permission?

Why did the three suicide notes take so long to surface?

Why was the family given typewritten copies?

Were they being checked for forgery?

Where is the letter JS wrote to the hospital which was found in her briefcase criticising the hospital? Why hasn't that been given to the media if the two suicide notes were.

Why didn't JS write a loving note to her husband and family?

Statistics show that very few women hang themselves. Nurses normally overdose.

Writing more than one suicide note is very rare.

Why did these notes sound so cold and calculating with no emotion?

Why does her letter criticise the hospital yet her suicide note exonerates them?

Who had most to gain from the writing and later publication of these notes?

IMO the hospital.....

It had to protect its royal reputation at all costs.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20645838

They had a sample of her handwriting from the letter.

Why haven't they answered the 60 questions still?

At least Austereo and the DJs have been open about their part in this and IMO about 80% of the public now do not think they are to blame now that JS prior mental history has been exposed.

After the publication of these notes, the public seems to have little compassion for JS when she had the audacity to ask the DJs to pay her mortgage.

So these notes have done two things which benefit the hospital:

1. Made JS appear to be very money-hungry.

2. Exonerated the hospital and put all the blame on to the DJs.

When will the hospital explain its part in all this? I guess we will have to wait until the inquest when a highly paid lawyer will argue their case.

Many people suspected foul play in the beginning and are now returning to those thoughts.

Why would someone want to kill the nurse?

I am pretty sure names of DJs were released before she died.

As we don't know her personally, I fail to see how we can decide what she would or wouldn't write in her suicide note.

Motivation for killing the nurse?

IMO JS may have been privy to private information about the royals or the hospital that they feared she would expose. They probably knew of her mental state so a faked suicide would be credible.

I think most would admit that her suicide notes are bizarre and I agree only her family would know if they were iikely to be written by her but they have not seen the handwriting yet either.

"Comparing actual notes with the simulated ones, the researchers found significantly more thought units in the genuine notes compared with the fictitious notes. “The genuine note writers apparently feel the need to say more in this last communication.”

If JS was so depressed, I would have expected her to talk about her own self-loathing but there is nothing of that.

"Among the typical sentiments expressed are:
•I can’t find my place in life.
•This is best for all concerned.
•I don’t want to go, but there is nothing else to do. I've never been much good.
•I’m all twisted up inside."

According to Olsen (2005), the most common reasons that people contemplating suicide choose to write a suicide note include one or more of the following:[4]
  • To ease the pain of those known to the victim by attempting to dissipate guilt.
  • To increase the pain of survivors by attempting to create guilt.[5][6]
  • To set out the reason(s) for suicide.
  • To express thoughts and feelings that the person felt unable to express in life.
  • To give instructions for disposal of the remains.
  • Occasionally, to confess acts of murder or some other offence
