I think they to continue give evidence in the case of Child G, a baby girl.
The prosecution say she was force-fed milk, allegedly by Letby. She did not die but LL has been charged with attempted murder.

from previous testimony before the break:

Medical expert Dr. Dewi Evans, who was brought in by the National Crime Agency to review the case, testified it was “astonishing” for such a small child to vomit so severely.

“For a baby of 2kg [4.4 pounds] to vomit that far is quite remarkable. Even more astonishing is the vomit that ends up on the chair. That is several feet away,” he told the court.

“I can’t recall a baby vomiting on the floor. I can’t recall a baby vomiting that distance. It was described quite correctly as extraordinary.”

The baby’s health rapidly declined in the wake of the vomiting — and she had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator.
Evans said the only explanation was that Child G “had received far more milk” than the approved 45mls [1.5 ounces] in her feeding tube, adding that it “cannot occur accidentally.”

The baby survived but was left with irreversible brain damage in the wake of the ordeal, the court heard.

The judge is informing the jury there are "very good reasons" why the two jurors are absent, and it is not yet known when the jurors will be able to return.
He tells the jury work is being done behind the scenes in legal discussions.

10:35am

He tells the jury we are "not halfway through" the prosecution case, and the trial will not resume today.
It is now anticipated the case will run until May. Previously the jury had been told the case could run beyond Easter.
There will be a break for Easter, from April 6-17. After that point, the only planned interruptions will be for public Bank Holidays.
Members of the jury are being told not to book any holidays beyond Easter.

No, it looks like the trial will not be resuming today. It seems the two jurors may be absent for some time from the wording of things, this is going to be an incredibly long trial
I feel so bad for the families...this is dragging out so long.

Baby G has severe medical issues. This trial has been 'stuck' on Baby G for 6 weeks already....this must be devastating for the parents. :( They already have so much to deal with everyday, besides the horror of the trial.

Oh yes I didn't really consider that, if the parents of Baby G are coming to court they may be away from their baby for a considerable stretch of time, to sit and hear these details. All the parents have been so brave, I hope they get justice.

They can drop to nine, I believe. I'm surprised so many have lasted this long. I think this may be a permanent reduction. If a couple were simply ill I think they'd have postponed as they have done previously
Do they have alternates in the UK?

In US we usually start with 2 or more extra jurors, so if some drop out we still have 12 available. We cannot go lower than 12 though.

They started with two alternates who dropped out or replaced selected jurors very early on!

Someone posted the rules here and I think 10 or fewer it needs to be unanimous but don't quote me on that.

I think we did start with 14 but this is something that can happen in longer trials, but this is to fill out any vacancies that open up before the prosecution begins presenting evidence, they're discharged before this starts

With no fewer than 11 jurors: 11-1, 10-2, 10-1
With no fewer than 10 jurors: 9-1

With 9 jurors: the verdict must be unanimous

All trials start out with two reserve jurors until the end of opening speeches, and then they are discharged or used if necessary on the jury to replace any that can't sit on the case.

It happened exactly that way when I was a juror, this case was nothing unusual.

I suspect there is now a very high likelihood of this trial falling apart. Its anyone's guess what will happen then but I think a retrial is inevitable.
That's not what I'm picking up from the judge's comments about the trial being extended after Easter and informing jurors not to book holidays.

I'm just speaking from the point of view of losing more jurors. This case is now taking even longer, isn't even half way through and four out of fourteen jurors have gone - although, granted, the two this week may resume.
