If the flatmates are simply that, and not friends, I wouldn’t expect them to raise the alarm if they didn’t see Petra for a few days, that’s not unusual if everyone has jobs and are in and out. A flatmate you share with, who you found online, or the landlord has put you with, might go on holiday, see family or even move out without mentioning it to you.

It's December so it hasn't exactly been warm, which might slow decomp? Highest it seems to have got in London is 12C with most nights around 4-5C.

That compares very unfavourably even to a domestic fridge. Two weeks is a long time in terms of decomposition at those temperatures. It would be different if there was snow on the ground, or even nightly frosts.

If she was there all that time, what those children found doesn't bear thinking about, and I would have expected the forensic clean-up of what was essentially a biohazard to be more time-consuming. I would also have thought we'd be hearing all about it in the tabloids or on social media.

I find it all very odd tbh - both the timeline and the idea that this was self-inflicted.

Yes, agreed. I don't think I expressed myself very well. I was just agreeing with the person who suggested she might take her own life in the park because of flatmates, and I also thought it might offer a possibility as to the arrested man's role in this (or lack of).

I agree it won't be great, but the reduction in insect activity at this time of year would also have helped and if she's been out of direct sunlight under bushes the temperature would also probably be lower.

I don't see that she could have been in the open for that period of time. Which would imply she herself has gone into the bushes? Sad. I can only assume they have found paraphernalia at the scene which points to whatever being her own act e.g. empty pill packets, a note or whatever. Hopefully the PM will give confirmation to the family.

It is possible she for whatever reason was living the last two weeks outdoors or otherwise ‘homeless’ (perhaps intentionally due to mental ill health/addiction/something else). We won’t know until a post mortem but she may not have died until very recently.

Wildcard theorem here but COVID fear was ramping up at the time she went missing, housemates can be bullies, she worked in a hospital. Ergo….

In fact it was Nov 27 when the PM announced toughest COVID measures since last winter:

Prime Minister sets out new measures as Omicron variant identified in UK: 27 November 2021

If she'd withdrawn a large amount of cash I guess she could have lived off that?

I think she'd have needed somewhere to sleep that night if she wasn't well equipped for rough sleeping in winter. The 28th was one of the coldest recently. Low of -3 that night.

I agree the small park area sounds strange but could she have crawled under the bushes somehow…? I don’t really like to say this but could a tree have been an option, too? I have seen the pictures of the park but it’s difficult to estimate if there’s any possibility for her having gone unnoticed.

I think the guy who was arrested earlier was possibly her partner. Could have been another acquaintance of hers of course, too. Just speculation from my side.

I don't think you'd need to crawl in most areas, you could force your way in and sit/lie down and you'd become fairly hidden.

It'd have been hard to see anyone entering those bushes unless a witness was on the park path next to them or at a certain point on the pavement - But even the pavement view is obscured by the bushes themselves once closer to them than the path.

There are some windows from flats/apartments which might have some visibility, but the park doesn't appear to be lit and they'd be the other side of the bushes so once someone was close to them they'd be hidden by them also.

It does look like there might be branches/trunks in those bushes that would be capable of supporting the weight of a human. But they also from Google Maps appear to not be very thick and you can see through them at quite a few points. Certainly wouldn't bank on not being visible unless you'd previously considered the spot in daylight.

The bushes do look quite dense, and it does seem to be bushes and trees

This is the same stretch (speed bump just on the left, parking sign on the right) from July this year.

So not suspicious
Update: We had appealed for help to find missing senior nurse assistant Petra Srncova from Camberwell.

Thank you to everyone for sharing our posts far and wide. Sadly, on Sunday 13 December the body of a woman was found in Brunswick Park, SE5.

Her death is being treated as unexplained - but initial enquiries suggest the circumstances are not suspicious.

Petra's family have been informed of this development.

They’ve obviously confirmed to the Czech government that it’s her.

Either the UK police or Foreign Office informed the Czech authorities that the body found was or was believed to be Petra.

There may have been a caveat that full identification was not yet confirmed to the UK police degree of certainty or maybe something was lost in translation.

How the Czech authorities chose to report was a matter for them and not one the UK had any control over.

Without knowing the full facts we should not rush to judgement.

I do not see anything suspicious in this, even though we know nothing about the person's history. They may have been under intense pressure at work, in financial difficulty, just had a relationship breakdown, etc, making them feeling very low.

A job as a nursing assistant - not a nurse as has been referred to on occasion, but as implied by title, an assistant to the nursing staff; while having undergone training and exams, it is not same level as a qualified nurse - would have no doubt brought its own pressures, with Christmas ahead and perhaps through Covid/work/money not being able to spend time at home in Czech, could all have built up to feeling it was a very bleak time ahead. That she also tried to contact them in the hours after disappearing, I think is indicative.

Where she was found, if indeed it was suicide, the place is not unusual. Almost every case I have followed this year of a suicide, the location was away from home, in an open, but secluded space, and often with an expanse of water involved.

I can easily see why she may not have been spotted. We are so used to seeing homeless in different places, that we are now just immune and pass by like nothing out of the ordinary. Anyone passing might have mistaken her for one, or thought just a pile of clothes left, and not bothered to investigate further.

Rough sleeping is a definite possibility and might explain the backpack (pace that we don't know how big it was) but it does strike me as odd to pick a place close to her actual, or most recent, home. In her shoes I would hide out somewhere on the hospital campus, which would be warmer, safer and wouldn't involve paying bus fares.

Who knows why people make the choices they make, though, especially if they're not themselves for whatever reason.

Yes, I'm sure it can happen and that's very sad. It's not very friendly and not a good way to live, and if you feel isolated, it will make it worse. Maybe no wonder she felt suicidal then...
