Couldn’t the ‘red reflective object’ be a satin face mask? I know a lot of my girlfriends choose a prettier face mask when they’re dressed up, the blue surgical masks are a bit cringe when you’re wearing a nice dress and heels. I have a selection of nude and black ones myself.

They also transfer less makeup. She could have made a bigger effort because it was a first date after what seemed to be a long term relationship.

It also works as a gag, a trophy (feminine, silky and red) and would tie man in CCTV to the murder because of Sabina’s DNA/his DNA on it?

Just a random thought.

There is no legal requirement to wear a mask so I am not sure whether Sabina would take one with her to the pub.T

I think the police would not use the word reflective unless they were confident that that was what they were looking for .

JMO But I've gone full circle on this and am back where I started. Starting to think these arrests may well have no involvement in the crime and the scene of the attack may not be as relevant as I first assumed it was. In which case its a random attack by a sexual predator unknown to the victim which is what I though when the news broke of the discovery of the body. Really surprised they've not managed to apprehend the suspect yet. A week is a long time in a criminal investigation these days.

Maybe the item is, as suggested, a bandana with a reflective part (common on ones cyclists might wear for example) and he was wearing it on the CCTV of the attack so they couldn’t see his face? And that’s posing a problem in placing him at the crime scene/confirming his identity, but they’re pretty sure it’s the same guy as the Pegler Square CCTV?

Pure speculation on my part.

Wonder if they’ve got the car on ANPR somewhere headed towards Kent?

It is not necessary to wear a trademark

A lot of people in London still wear face masks and restaurants occasionally ask you to wear one until seated at your table. It’s just discretionary.

She’s also a teacher, she may work with immunocompromised kids that she cares about and therefore wears a mask.

It’s unlikely but so many things in case are.

Idk I still don't see it personally that it could be random given what we know so far. Somebody REALLY decided to go to a residential street in Kidbrooke, whether it's for a sexual assault or random murder, just as the person happened to come out of their house???

Like of course it could be possible, but with that man acting dodgy on CCTV, given that we know she was meeting an "old friend" on a date, that it's supposed she's recently come out of a long-term relationship? As somebody previously mentioned it could still be a sort of "stalker" situation as well. Or something to do with her school-work life.

It didnt seem to be a mask to me.
This thing is stiffer, longer like a heavy cloth rolled, it looks like a folded bag.

I would be very surprised if a teacher of 5 year olds would have done something which caused a parent to be so angry that they murdered her. Not changing a reading book or failing to award a star of the week certificate are typical grumbles of year I parents.

Well you say that, but as a UK primary teacher I’ve had 2 occasions in recent years where there have been threats made that have resulted in police involvement.

First was a child who I delivered into the care of Social Work during the school day. It hadn’t even been a report from school that had resulted in the court order, it was due to a domestic incident the police had been called to. Still the father blamed the school and the police had to escort us to our cars at the end of the day for a few days.

Second was a family who had fled a domestically abusive situation. The father somehow managed to track them down, and from information on the school website knew that the whole school had a trip booked. Threats were apparently made to kidnap his children and harm the staff. Again we had to have police involvement.

Of course if this footage is after the attack which it looks like it is as he's acting extremely suspiciously, its more likely to be an item of clothing the victim was wearing as morbid as that is and the police likely know exactly what it is.

Absolutely!!!
As a teacher myself I know what you mean!
People are oblivious - all they see are long holidays and lots of free time of teachers.
You have to deal with all kinds of parents, some quite aggressive.
In fact, in Poland we are treated like civil servants who have special security.
Anyone threatening a teacher is immediately taken care of by Police.

I have been a U.K primary teacher for a very long time and we certainly have had incidents at schools I have taught in similar to the ones you have described.
I have not heard of a member of staff being accosted by a parent at their home address several miles from the school.

Shall we brainstorm that reflective item?

First thing.. Why are they needed? To be seen right?

So:

Night time leisure activities - as said up thread, dog lead, cycle accessories. Water/drink containers? Helmets. Shoes!

General "be seen" safety - hi viz clothing. Construction sites (often yellow), railway (usually orange), road and traffic workers (orange?), warehouse workers where there are forklifts etc (yellow I've seen).

Someone said red tape.

I'm not sold on masks being reflective, but adding to our brainstorm list.

What else?

Next question - why not dump it?

His dna on it (drinks/mask)?

Something that links to him (work place?)

No bins??

Sabina's dna on it, afraid to dump it in case he's seen?

Pitch in, anyone...
