Men commit 99% of sex crimes. Women are victims 88% of the time.
Misogyny against women is far more serious than men feeling disgruntled about pointing this out.
There’s a saying, that the worst thing about male violence is that it makes men look bad.

And I'm sure a vast majority of men are not committing sex crimes.
You have illustrated my point well.

This is very thorny territory. I share everybody's concerns about these matters, but I'm not sure about punishing people for crimes they might [or might not] do. It's venturing into Minority Report's world.
How would stricter punishment of indecent exposure be punishing people for crimes they hadn't committed? Surely it would be treating a sex crime with the seriousness it requires rather than treating it as a minor offence

It is not normal behaviour to terrorise women by exposing yourself. It is serious harassment. After the Libby Squires trial many of the women her killer had exposed himself to spoke out. They had been upset, traumatised and scared. And that's without suffering what he and WC progressed too.

We cannot keep diminishing crimes like this. Women do need to be protected from these perverted individuals. And perhaps protecting those Individuals from life sentences by treating them early

Indecent exposure is an offence centred around power. Men know that revealing their private parts to unwilling women is scary for the woman. They enjoy wielding that power and threatening women by showing them how frightened they can make them. This need for power and control can easily transfer itself into rape.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but I saw this earlier, and Libby Squire's mum has talked about the need for tougher measures for lower level sex offender crimes such as flashing. I was wondering earlier what would have happened if Kent police had pursued WC over the indecent exposure allegations, and apparently he might have just got a caution. I wonder what the right response to these sorts of crimes is?
Libby Squire's mum calls for tougher sex offender measures

We will be right behind her with any campaign for this, at least I will for sure. Tougher sentences for indecent exposure.

He wasn't an actor. StarNow is a site where wannabes make a profile and hope to get talent spotted. It became mostly used by press looking for models, or case studies for real life stories (I used to use it a lot for this purpose) because it's full of people who just want to be famous/in the media. Quite telling of his personality.

Not fully correct. A lot of actors are on there looking for low budget acting roles to bump up their IMdB profile and their acting CV. Even if they already have acting Agents. Its for fill-in work too.

Ah wow, had no idea his brother is a police officer too. Yikes. WC has ruined the lives of so many, I feel sorry for his family as well having this attached to them forever.

On another note, the Met police 'advice' from yesterday and the victim blaming from the Crime Commissioner makes me so impossibly angry. They need to take a hard look at their part in this - why did they have an officer in their ranks openly referred to as 'the rapist'? Why was an officer of theirs being investigated for indecent exposure not suspended immediately?? I know if someone did that in my workplace they would be, and we're not in positions of power and trust like a police officer is!
Perhaps because they all stick together like glue, like medical people do when blame is apportioned. JMO MOO. This culture HAS to change.

I was curious about the micro SD card that police found and the report that something had been thrown out the window. Presumably this had nothing of interest on it as there hasn't been any further mention of it.

Regarding him wiping his phone and then using a gmail account, if he has any pattern of using gmail accounts I would imagine a court order could be used to access information even if it has not been saved to a device. I suppose it's a matter of any other alleged victims from the dating site or escort site providing the email contact details he had given them. I think getting any other alleged victims to come forward would be very challenging, though, given all the media attention and the horror of what has happened, I can't imagine they would want the attention.

If nothing was found having been thrown out of the window could it have been a delaying tactic, buying time to send some staff to comb outside the window? JMO MOO

Changing the subject a little on this thread, The Times today has an interview with Katherine Goodwin. It is behind a paywall, but this titbit of information about the investigation stuck out for me -

“At 3pm on Tuesday 9th March there was a breakthrough. CCTV from a bus showed Everard standing next to a white car with the hazard lights flashing”.

So they saw the cctv at 3pm, had forensics on site within about half an hour/40mins and then had police outside his door 2 hrs 45 mins later during which time they identified the car/him/the fact he was a police man and had used the ANPR system to trace the movements of that car down to Kent.

Just shows that while there is all this surveillance technology, it still requires painstaking hours of human interpretation of that technology to analyse and make sense of it. But thank god they did.

Sarah Everard murder: How Wayne Couzens was caught in a vast web of security cameras | News | The Times

The weekend delayed access to the bus cameras because they didn't have a out of hours facility. I'm surprised they could read the license plate to be honest with the bus cam and thought it was a combination of knowing the model/colour of car then checking the nearby ANPR cameras for a match.
However, there was additional dash cam footage from a marked police car and taxi (?) that also show the car so maybe they had the license plate from those sources but the bus cam showed the 2 interacting.

This is an interesting point from the article : ' During the 2 hour wait prior to entering his house, the police had been visible. So I guess his phone reset was in response to that.

Same as they said after Libby Squires was murdered! We must take flashing more seriously they said. Now another young woman is dead and they're saying it again.

On of the students Libby's killer exposed himself reported that her complaint was only investigated because her parents worked in LE elsewhere and contacted her local force to suggest they acted.

Heard it all before sadly

I agree with you. As a woman, I'm also disgusted at the despicable rhetoric being aimed at men, as I am at the vitriol being leveled at the police force.

The police have some bad eggs, should we now not trust ALL police officers?
There was Harold Shipman. Should we now suspect and not trust all GPs? How about midwives? Should we not trust them because of Beverley Allett, or be suspicious of school caretakers because of Ian Huntley?

Tarnishing an entire profession or group of people because of the actions of one or two is not helpful and only serves to create further societal divisions.

But in all the cases you cite, those crimes led to serious overhauls of the systems they worked in. Palliative care, especially, was massively changed after Shipman. And after Ian Huntley, school safeguarding checks were significantly tightened.

The same should happen with the police. It's not tarnishing a profession, it's taking steps to prevent other people from abusing it in the same way and to restore trust.

MOD NOTE

Sarah’s thread is now closed. With the life sentence against the perpetrator, there are no new developments expected that could be discussed. Usually when that happens in a case, threads have a tendency to devolve into a debate about social issues in general which cannot be resolved by us here.

If any new developments DO arise as published in MSM, please send a Report to mods to let us know. We will review to determine if the thread should be reopened.

RIP Sarah.
May the next girl be saved as a result of what your bright life and tragic death have taught us.
