I'm keeping up too, via Salt Lake City Tribune- I'm reading comments there, too. Has anyone looked at JP's real estate website? Kind of interesting. In the "about Josh Powell" tab, public speaking is listed as one of his attributes.. also Kiirsi is one of his testimonial clients. Likes cabinet making..
Ok if you want a link let me know, since I figure you all have seen it already, I won't post it.

Just wanted to point out that people doing a testimonial back then when he created the site quite a few years ago when he was still kind of "normal seeming" doesn't mean they would feel the same way now. I myself would have recommended him to another person looking for a realtor back then also. He did a good job for us when we bought our place. I would never recommend him over the last two years but back then he was okay and didn't have huge issues or problems. At least nothing that I could really see...

Is this media blitz working???
Really, Susan isn't here in PA.
Wishful thinking for a search or
more pressure on JP/SP........

I believe it is working. Thousands of more people are aware of Susan and her story. Tips have been coming in and the LE are aware of each and every one of them and most likely looking into each one very seriously also. I know some will be false but maybe someone is finally seeing the story who also did see something around the time of her disappearance and it may help.

Lemonmoussetart (or anyone) can you please help me to find video or photos of first ("Silent Night") candlelight vigil held in WVC in West View Park Dec. 10 I believe? You mentioned Josh there and that there may have been someone beside him...

:parrot:

I was at that vigil and took some pictures and just went back and looked at them and I didn't even notice this before but Josh was in one of them. Here it is: (you can see him back there with his hat on with a look almost like a deer in the headlights kind of look.)

I also approached Josh and talked to him for quite a while after the vigil was over and I did not see anyone else with him except for the boys. I even had to hold Braden for him because the reporter was following him around trying to get him to talk and he didn't want the kids on camera. That night was the only time I saw him since all of this happened, but I saw him for a couple hours that night.

I'd gotten my info elsewhere, but there is a very informative writeup of the Mitchell/Barzee history at http://www.trutv.com/library/crime/criminal_mind/sexual_assault/elizabeth_smart/1_index.html

So they weren't LDS at the moment of the crime, but seem to have created their own FLDS upon excommunication. I'm really just thinking out loud on this tangent -- that either Williams is doing pro bono OR that someone who can afford him is paying for it (obviously not Josh himself).

In November 2001, around the same time that Lois Smart met "Emmanuel," the LDS Church excommunicated Mitchell and Barzee for "promoting bizarre teachings and lifestyle" that were not in accordance with church doctrine.

Excommunication did not deter Mitchell. He wrote his own gospel, "The Book of Immanuel David Isaiah" and declared that he was sent by God to return the Mormon Church to its fundamental values, including the practice of polygamy. In one of his writings he urged his wife to accept "seven times seven sisters" into their family.

Can I get a show of hands for everyone who wants to start studying the Book of Immanuel David Isaiah?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Anyone?

There are 4 styles that were available in the 2005 Chysler Town & Country, verified by OK (the WS-posting friend) as the Powell's only vehicle in dark blue.

Base:
Available in Midnight Blue Pearlcoat
Anti-Theft Alarm System NOT STANDARD
Navigation System NOT STANDARD

LX:
Available in Midnight Blue Pearlcoat
Anti-Theft Alarm System NOT STANDARD
Navigation System NOT STANDARD

Touring:
Available in Midnight Blue Pearlcoat
Anti-Theft Alarm System **STANDARD**
Navigation System **STANDARD**

Limited:
Available in Midnight Blue Pearlcoat
Anti-Theft Alarm System **STANDARD**
Navigation System **STANDARD**

The 2007 bankruptcy documents of personal property:
2005 Chrysler Town & Country (basis for value: Kelly
BB)
15,380.00

I have NO idea how to determine which of the above styles would have been valued at $15,380 in 2007, but the current values range from $8000 (Base) - $13,000 (Limited).

I feel like Marisa Tomei in "My Cousin Vinny!"

When purchasing a new car, can you elect to not have a standard option and "downgrade" on a certain feature? I have a 2005 T & C Touring edition but it does not have a navigation system. If the Powells have a Touring or Limited edition, they might not have the navigation or some other feature that we'd expect.

Thanks for posting this, Imamaze.

Let me add that it's fine to mention the Powells' religion as it directly relates to Susan's disappearance.

However, any discussion other than that is off-topic and not allowed in this thread.

Thanks,

I've deleted the discussion on religion and whether or not any religion is a cult. It has nothing to do with this case, please stop discussing your beliefs on whether a religion is a cult or not. Thank you.

I'm thinking that was is termed "standard" is actually "available." So if they have the base model, neither the navigation nor alarm is available from the factory.

Is it hard to remove a GPS? How long do you think it would take (1/2 hr)? Where is it located on a vehicle? Thanks!

Patty G, are you infering what I posted about the man possibly being a bishop and that is why some of the witnesses to josh's behavior say or feel what they do about the story is off topic? I don't want to get in trouble but I think it might very well have something to do with it.

I haven't said a word about anything. All I did was bump up the posts that the moderators of this forum posted.

Ok, because you did that bump when you did I decided to delete my post and have submitted it for review before posting.

GPS can be put anywhere in a vehicle as long as it picks up the signal. There are GPS' that are portable, built-in and hand-held.

Actually the navigation was only standard on the Limited. Also, anti-theft and remote keyless entry was, as far as I know, standard on all models. Each type of each model will have standard packages, the options are the difference when purchasing; and only certain options are available on certain types of models.

As far as being able to tell which model they owned by the equipment packages should be fairly easy to figure out, but by the value in 07 isn't as easy.

Here's my best guess: Starting price in 05 was about $20k. If the depreciation is about $2k a year (about right for a chrysler), then the value in 07 would be around $16k. With rebates and incentives it would have, at best, probably only been worth around $23k when bought. That tells me they owned either the base model or maybe LX.

That's my contribution to the thread

IF he removed the GPS, does that show premeditation?

It would show premeditation in dumping her body. But it's likely he would have done it between her death and ridding himself of the body.

That said, I don't think he's smart enough to do something like that. But I could be wrong.

If it's a portable device, you just don't turn it on and you can't be tracked. That wouldn't prove anything.

If the GPS is hardwired into the car, though, there would be telltale signs of tampering that would definitely have been detected when the van was impounded. What I've read online about removing GPS ranges from "disconnect the ground at the cigarette lighter" to "take it to a specialist." If he spontaneously needed to remove it, IMO there'd be some major googling going on!
