1. church leader told the news that the landscaper comes every 3 weeks, so she could have been there the whole time that she was missing. 2. there is a lake literally 100 yards from the dumpster where the phone was found. It is very easy to simply throw a phone out the window of your car into the lake while driving by. I know this because I drove by it. So why choose the dumpster? Did they dump bigger things as well? Apparently the phone was LITERALLY on top of the dumpster so that the worker could find it, as opposed to being on top of trash INSIDE the dumpster? Seems the phone was INTENDED on being found. 3. There is a 30-35 min window from entry on base to exit. Considering 5 minutes drive to/from gate, leaves 20-25 minutes for perp to approach, converse, disable or kill, and put her body in the car. Rape would seem unlikely in this time frame, which leaves either professional hit or very prepared and purposeful perp with intentions of hurting her later. 4. Perp would need to know there were no cameras and be VERY comfortable on base, considering other factors. 5. Perp would likely already be on base, therefore probably lives on base, or else there would be record of his entry, limiting suspects. 6. Law Enforcement has been very quiet, which may mean they have leads, but waiting for something, such as cause of death to be determined as murder? 7. Are the videos ACTUALLY that grainy or did LE let us - and the parents - assume they were by giving out a low res image? Why? Seemingly not to tip off the perp. 8. I believe vehicle was seen by neighbor the same or the day after she went missing, but he didn't report it until later in the week. 9. The vehicle was parked crooked, with windows down. Perp in a rush? Perp on drugs? Car MEANT to be reported? 10. How did perp get back to base - presuming he lives there - at that time of the morning? The bus situation is a bit confusing from that location. Multiple buses pass that way, but only one goes directly to the amphib base. Cab? Uber? Walk? Or did they have help? 11. Considering the car was dumped so soon, is it the vehicle used to transport her to NC, or was it the perps vehicle? 12. If the car was dumped immediately then perp transferred her lifeless/unconscious body somewhere. 13. It would be difficult to hide signs of struggle at the blimpies, which is reportedly not lighted at that hour. Therefore an unprovoked attack would likely leave an ear ring, her hair, or something. If she was still in the car when they made her unconscious, then there would likely be signs of struggle there. 14. Considering the car was dumped so soon and haphazardly, then it was not likely cleaned. 15. Most indicators point to pre-planning and possibly a professional hit. 16. The police MUST have a great deal of evidence they are witholding, but considering this LOOKS like an abduction, WHY are they being so quiet and letting the public think there could be a killer on the streets? 17. Her body was found in plain view AT A CHURCH, while there are a thousand places between Norfolk and Charlotte, to hide a body. Therefore there is meaning in the placement. 18. Why was she so early to work? Her dad volunteered that answer - without being questioned about it - and said she was taught that to be on time is to be late. But if the normal reporting time is 6-6:30, as the manager stated, then why show up an hour early? Did she have other plans? Did she need to pick something up that she left at the store? Did somebody she trusted, meet her there? Why? It goes back to it being somebody who lives on base, or possibly somebody very familiar with bases, and chose to meet her there? Why not meet somewhere off base? Why so early? A secret of some sort? There was no mention that she NORMALLY came in an hour early by the manager, so there was SOME PURPOSE, which almost rules out surprise attack. Not to mention, a surprise attacker would likely have a sexual purpose, which seems less likely at 5 in the morning. 19. PERHAPS, she showed up early to get something, and then left to meet this person, maybe at the location where the car was last seen, and that's why the windows were down? She was talking to the person... but why in a dark cul-de-sac, which is at the end of a one-way street and not easily accessible from Tidewater Dr.? Considering, all of this, I believe LE knows a lot and that it was somebody very close to her, and somebody very religious or spiritually devout.

I'm not necessarily certain about a few things in Ashanti's case. I believe there is a higher probability her killer is religious, but in times of crisis folks who would not consider themselves to be religious will turn to prayer or call on God. That could have happened here. I believe there is a strong possibility the killer was close to her, but he could just as likely to be someone who just happened to have met her a few times while she worked on base. The choice of the site in Charlotte is very interesting. Why drive all that way? Did he do something to try to silence her and that method unintentionally caused her death in transit? Was Charlotte a convenient stop on the way to the original destination, such as Atlanta? Or was the killer familiar with that area of Charlotte? That church is not far from the intersection of I-85 and I-77. Also, a military base has members from all parts of the country, increasing the likelihood the killer could have originally been from Charlotte before joining the military.

Looks like perp had plans of crossing Azalea Garden Rd and tossing the phone in the water. Perp hides behind dumpster, passes the dumpster, gets worried from the traffic on Azalea, doesn't want to be seen, throws cell phone in dumpster.

It takes about 10 minutes to get to that location from the base. I still don't understand why they didn't just throw the phone into the water while driving, or even into the dumpster. There's a string of unsolved murders of young women in Lumberton, NC. But if this person is so sloppy in hiding evidence, I can't imagine they have done this much before. I can't think of a good reason to throw the phone, still on and in tact, into the dumpster to ELUDE police. Being that dark out, they might not have seen the water, but why not at least turn the phone off? Maybe they want to get caught? Ashanti must be in the car, probably incapacitated in the video. Probably unconscious, or at least gagged. He didn't seem like he was in a rush as if she might try to escape. But it's a two door car, so she would most likely been in the front seat, maybe reclined back, but no visible movement in the car. Looks like the person ran back to the car?

Assuming the possibility she was killed on base, I wonder if the perp's original intent was to dump her body/cellphone in the lake but he got scared off by the traffic. I watched the video again (disturbing as it is to watch) and I counted 7 cars on Azalea Garden road just in the short time he was there. I was surprised at how busy that road is at that time of the morning but it IS a main road to and from the airport. I'm thinking putting the cell phone in the dumpster was a plan B. When found it would certainly lead LE to look in the wrong place if perp was on way to NC.

Also, I'm assuming the perp wore gloves since he handled the cellphone and no identifying prints were reported to have been lifted. More signs that point to premeditation

9. Parking the car under a streetlight seems like a careless thing to do, even if someone was ditching it in a rush. I wonder if the streetlight was off when the perp dumped the car. If so, he wouldn't necessarily think about it being a streetlight. Does anyone in this area know what time the streetlights go OFF on this street? Is it a timer or do they have a light sensor?

Not necessarily, the gloves could have been put on after her death to get rid of evidence.

I think he just walked past the dumpster because he didn't want a car passing and seeing him at the time that he threw away the phone, so he kind of pretended to keep walking.. BTW, here is a longer video - https://www.facebook.com/search/str...3ZjA0NGY1NWRhN2FiOWY4ZGYxMDY2YWEwNmMxYjQifQ==

Been away for a while. Where did this video come from? Is this a/the POI? Have they identified him? Is there a connection to the victim?

Not sure if anyone else noticed this, but Azalea Garden Road going south from the airport leads directly to US 58 - which is the road you'd take to get to Charlotte.

Thank you. Hopefully it can lead to some answers.

Not necessarily, the gloves could have been put on after her death to get rid of evidence.
Also, no need for gloves, at least for cells. Most phones are a little slick on surface on purpose and you can just rub them and smear any prints to unusable.

Went to a cyber security talk and they mentioned that...women are especially impossible because we use lotion then handle phone and really ruins any fingerprints...all smeared is same as none...

bbm

I think the person is scared he will be caught, and is in a panic -- if so, this would indicate that that the taking of Ashanti was a crime of opportunity, and it involved very little thought or planning ahead of time.
  • Traveling in her car -- bad idea
  • Walking over to a dumpster in front of a camera that he prolly didn't know about -- bad idea
  • Not turning off the phone -- bad idea
  • Having a body/live captive in a car not your own & with no permission to drive it -- bad ideas
  • Driving all the way to Charlotte, NC, in that car, with a body/live captive -- bad ideas
  • Driving all the way back from Charlotte, NC, in what could be classified as a stolen vehicle -- bad idea

Panic, stress, etc., unless she was a willing partner (very doubtful, IMO) -- this person was good enuf to get away with it so far... but we'll have to wait until we see how it ends

The trip to Charlotte just doesn't make sense -- why, why, why -- unless she was willing, and then something terrible happened. Diabetic crisis & death? What happened to our Ashanti?

Maybe the car didn't go to Charlotte.

Say this happens: the murderer decides to take Ashanti's body to Charlotte, for reasons we do not know. But now also has her car to deal with, a car that is being watched for and could have evidence. So the murderer drives the car to a neighborhood in the area, maybe not the best one, a place where cars are frequently stolen. Leaves the car unlocked and keys in the ignition. For them, "best case" it ends up in a "chop shop" and pieced out in a few days, or put on a boat to be shipped off to another country, never to be recovered; even if the car is just stolen, it's going to be contaminated by the thief/their friends/etc. Someone does steal the car, then her disappearance becomes news and the car thief realizes that they picked the wrong car to steal. In a panic they dump the car and run off.

cvaldez1975 reply.......

It may have had lock screen security, also. The fact that the cell phone wasn't hidden better or destroyed, makes me think there was never any cell phone contact between offender(s) and victim.

Hmmmm, good thought, makes sense, and
