I haven't entirely come down one way or another as to whether or not Ashanti's killer drove her car to Charlotte. I'm inclined to believe if whatever he did occurred on base, he put her in her car, dumped the phone and then drove her in her own car to Charlotte. Otherwise he would have had to move her - alive or dead - to another vehicle and that takes time. Also the more times they move her the greater the opportunity to be seen doing it. But I'm open to other scenarios.

I'm wondering if this person knew her from Maryland. And the placement of the body in Charlotte is a red herring in the opposite direction.

Ashanti may have met someone from the base on an online dating site or something and was preyed upon. I know they said she was in a relationship but for different reasons when people are new to an area or something they join free sites. It's possible that the guy in the video was also one of the people searching for her in Norfolk before her body was found in Nc

Ya maybe. There is video of all the people at the searches. Some people have mentioned more than one perp. Makes sense. They pull up to her at Blimpie. Throw her in the car. The other one drives her car. Then he dumps the phone and meets the other guy at the culdesac to dump the car. In the video, there was no sign of Ashanti in the car, but she had to be in that car or another. Another theory is serial killer. There have been 3 women killed in Lumberton, NC and another woman, who matches Ashanti's description missing here in Norfolk. Whoever it would be, must be either military or a contractor who gets on base. They need to bust this person now, because every scenario I think of is a scenario that leaves someone really dangerous on the streets where I live.

I totally agree. My goodness they I hope they find who did this soon!

What if the perp drove her in her car to the place it was parked, and had another vehicle to transport her to her final resting place?

As I said I'm open to other scenarios. Whether he used her car or another, if he did this on base he had to have access to the base with a Common Access Card or other valid ID. Unless, he was passenger in Ashanti's car in which case the gate guards - except during security exercises - only ask the driver for their ID.

Your scenario is possible, but now he has to move her - alive or dead - to another vehicle. Increasing his odds of being discovered. That makes me believe is LIKELY that he used her car to transport her to Charlotte.

Do we know Ashanti's cause of death yet?

I would really hope that a military base would have better security, both in the case of surveillance and noting exactly who's on base.

I recorded hrs of news for an update on Ashanti and the update, was just that a flyer asking for info about her or her car in NC Is circulating. I was hoping for more. I haven't been able to sleep thinking about her. Someone dangerous is still out there.

The other day, someone mentioned a bank being near the Blimpie store. That made me wonder if that AM Ashanti stopped by an ATM on base to withdraw some money for the week and someone accosted her there; or, if she was accosted when she got out of her car at Blimpie and was forced to drive to an ATM and withdraw money at gunpoint. Just speculation, but if the motive was robbery the perp(s) may have been concerned Ashanti could ID them so wanted to prevent her from talking. Have the cameras at all of the banks on base been checked?

I don't see how this could've been pulled off by only one person. I still think Ashanti was forced into a van or truck in a location where there may not be any cameras, and tied up--I don't think she would've been visible when she passed through the gate for the last time--separate from her car, which was driven by the other perp. And, I also speculated earlier that one perp or both had a delivery to make in NC--either in Charlotte or it was along the way. I'm still leaning this way. Ashanti may not have been dead, but perhaps only incapacitated, when she was taken off base and then killed in a more secluded area.

All JMO

Even if Charlotte was on the way, there are a lot of rural areas between Norfolk and Charlotte.

Even just north of the church where her body was placed, there's a pit (which looks to be a mine or gravel pit) with a lot of trees surrounding it; if her body was placed there, maybe it would have been found by now, maybe not.

I am really leaning towards this being a random act/crime of opportunity or the perp being simply an acquaintance. I could be wrong but I'd imagine LE has interviewed anyone Ashanti had any communication with(phone, text, email, etc) in the days/weeks leading up to her abduction. Surely they've looked extensively at any of those people that could've potentially had access to the base that morning.

It just seems to me that if someone was targeting Ashanti for some reason, there would be better places than a military base to abduct her.

I guess it's also possible LE has a suspect they are trying to build a case against.

A military base wouldn't be my first choice. Perhaps timing & access is as key as location. If she were taken on base, we don't know of any eyewitnesses, and the only base video of which we're aware is that of her car leaving the gate.

If she were being targeted, I'd wonder why she wouldn't be taken when leaving her apartment. Perhaps it's gated? Or the abductors had a reason to be on base at that time without raising suspicions?

I contacted the fbi because I believe I know someone that might have taken Ashanti. I had to call the number 5 different times and press several different numbers to reach someone. I felt brushed off. I hope and pray they find who did this. I'm concerned for myself too if he gets an idea that I may be on to him. I have never seen experienced anything like this before.

Thank you for being brave and speaking out.

I have been a websleuth visitor for many years and figure it's time to participate. I made one other post a while back.

After scouring over the video footage of the person seen driving, exiting, and re-entering Ashanti's car, it appears to be a man wearing a light-colored (white or off white) short sleeved shirt and pants. Though the footage is grainy, I could see the skin on his right arm when he was tossing the phone into the dumpster. From what I can assess, he has light skin and looks to have a slim build. I believe it was a crime of opportunity causing him to make rash decisions. I'm sure the professionals have already thought of my basic investigative ideas, but they should be looking into people on the base who report to work during that timeframe in the vicinity of where Ashanti would have parked and also, anyone who may have been late for work that morning or didn't report to work at all. Who would be on a military base at 4 something in the morning for no reason? In my opionion, he was clearly there for a job. Also, the perpetrator would have had to find a way back on base for their originally intended purpose unless he didn't return that day; in which case, it may be easier to narrow down the POI list. Like others have stated, I'm stumped on the trip to North Carolina. It makes no sense to drive all that way and leave her in a location where she would likely be found. It's possible the killer may have had to drive there for another reason, i.e., work-related event, or he is from the Charlotte area and felt the urge to go home or a place of comfort after committing such a horrendous crime.

Just now catching up after being away from this a few days...

Good post, Summernights -- glad you're posting with us. Yes, this one is a strange one -- unless she was willing, and something bad happened on the way or when they got to whatever destination where they were heading. Did she have a sever seizure that left her incapacitated and the other person panicked? So many unknowns. Let's just hope that LE knows a lot more than we do.

And,

:welcome6: to Websleuths, Summernights!! We're glad you've joined us!!

:drumroll::drumroll:

In the dumpster video, when the perp is moving away from the car and walking next to the dumpster (especially the far half of the dumpster), when I pause the video at various frames, it sometimes looks like there is dark horizontal band across the back of his shirt about midway from top to bottom. Could be a work uniform, sports team gear, or some other design. Pausing at various frames also makes me think he's wearing shorts.

:wagon:to Websleuths,
zannian!! We're glad you're with us!!
