I hope they're off the streets for the rest of their lives. God bless Capt. Quick's family as they hopefully move forward with memories and love instead of bitterness and pain.

In a state court this would've been 13 different trials in 6 districts. That's why it was tried in federal court.

Thank you for updating, popsicle.

Last two members of gang that murdered Kevin Quick sentenced

http://www.newsplex.com/content/news/Last-two-members-of-gang-that-murder-Kevin-Quick-sentenced-406067345.html

Anthony Stokes was handed down a sentence of 13 years and four months in prison.

He will have to pay an immediate $200 fine and will have to help pay what the gang owes in restitution, which totals $12,369.99.

Of that, $400 will be paid to Quick's estate. That is the amount of money withdrawn from Quick's bank account during his abduction.

Halisi Uhuru is also expected to have his sentences handed down by a federal judge on Monday afternoon.

In Roanoke’s federal courthouse Monday, Uhuru told Judge Glen Conrad that he had no part in Quick’s abduction and death, and that he originally had intended the gang to be a force for good in the community.

Uhuru’s attorney challenged the idea that he had ever been the “master puppeteer” of the gang’s misconduct, as he believes the prosecution characterized him to the jury. Uhuru himself spoke at length about how his incarceration at the age of 15 for armed robbery led him to join a gang.

“I grew up in prison,” Uhuru said. “I lost my youth to the system.”

While there, Uhuru said he saw the “senseless violence” amongst the inmates and decided he wanted to form a group that might empower young people like himself and guide them away from becoming entrenched in the criminal justice system. For that gang to have become the criminal enterprise that it did was “never my vision or intention,” Uhuru said, with his attorney saying the gang’s criminal activity started in December 2012, a year before Uhuru was released from prison.

“I always intended it to be a positive thing,” Uhuru said.

When Uhuru was released in December 2013, he had seven weeks of freedom before he was arrested in the Quick case.

Conrad said he agreed that Uhuru was not complicit in the planning and execution of Quick’s slaying, but that Uhuru quickly “took the lead” in helping the other defendants elude justice. That, combined with his extensive criminal record, led Conrad to sentence Uhuru to 12 years in prison. He further ordered Uhuru to pay $12,369 in restitution.
