Now that JM has been arrested, how is this case going to remain in the media? Many have said that LE is likely to not release much information until trial. Maybe it will change, but people who knew JM are very quiet. The two factors of this case that were getting it so much attention were the camera footage and the manhunt. At this point, I do not see this case becoming one where the entire country is debating his guilt. I think most people see this case as being open and shut and something that sadly happens too often in the US. We will hear about the case when he has a court appearance, but what about in-between? I think what will keep in the case in the news is leaks, very talkative spotlight-seekers, and if the media decides to create some big debate about whether JM is being railroaded.

Hope the media does not jump in too quick with stories about him being railroaded because I have a feeling those who defend him will be found to have misplaced their belief in him, evidence will come out, and people will have egg on their faces. Have a feeling there are stories that those who know and have grown up with JM could tell that would dispute the side of him that is seen as "gentle giant".

I'm not so sure about this. If they don't take a persons DNA until after they are sentenced, how could it ever be used in court as evidence? I have never heard a suspect had to be tried, convicted and sentenced before they had to provide a DNA sample.

Example .. My ex was convicted of aggravated assault. No DNA needed for trial, but after conviction, that state required his DNA be on file because he is considered a violent offender. Does that make sense? If he had been charged with rape, then yes, his DNA would have been taken before trial and conviction. :)

Anchorage Farm is where MH's body was found.

Yes, and as another poster pointed out, he (JM) went to Red Hill Elementary, 2.1 miles from Anchorage Farms. I think that should definitely be looked at, as I am sure it is.

.
WAPO reported the same thing (at that time). So is the Washington Post to be ignored?

You are right. They will get a Judge to sign off on a SW for his DNA profile and he will have to give hair samples.

They never wait. I imagine the SW is already signed and waiting for him when he gets back.

IMO

I like the Daily Mail because they routinely report US political stories that the main stream media tries to sweep under the rug. I give them high marks for doing the job that the American media refuses to do.

Here is the quote. It's a result of poor editing. The paper just keeps piling on info on stories, so old info is in new stories. This quote actually appeared in a story saying he is the person of interest!

Police have issued a statement to say the black man shown walking with Hannah Graham in video footage released by police has been ruled out of their missing persons inquiry.

The Washington Post reported the same thing. Are they forever discredited?

The Washington Post reported the same thing. HLN for two nights said he has no criminal record (wrong).

People don't like what the Daily Mail is reporting, so attack the source. Is there anyone that doubts the Grandma story?

Thank you. So it wasn't just DM reporting this misinformation.

We do see misinformation come out quite often in the media now. (sigh)

Always rushing to have the breaking news instead of vetting the story.

If I had read the DM article back then I would instantly have known it was misinformation. We all know here JM was never ruled out. He has been the target of Hannah's disappearance all along.

Jesse Matthew, the suspect in the abduction of University of Virginia student Hannah Graham, appeared in a Texas courtroom today on charges of being a fugitive from justice.

Matthew, 32, appeared confused by the charges he faced, but he was not required to enter a plea.

He appeared before Galveston County Judge Mark Henry via video and was wearing dark green jail clothes and with handcuffs. Matthew complained that the jail had taken away his clothing.

The magistrate asked Matthew to sign several papers indicating whether he was requesting a court-appointed lawyer and whether he was claiming he was not the person identified on the Virginia fugitive warrant.

"What does this mean?" Matthew asked at one point while looking at the paperwork.

As the magistrate explained what he was being asked to sign, Matthew interrupted him saying, "What? I'm sorry."

When the magistrate finished his explanation, Matthew asked, "And if I sign it?"

Galveston jail records show he was charged with "failure to identify fugitive intent to give false information" and had been denied bond because of a federal hold.

So what is up with JM asking about his clothing first, of all things!
Thinking this guy has a thing for attire.... were we ever given a description of Hannah's shoes, did he covet her glittery top? speculation, imo.

"In court, Matthew's first questions for the judge were about his clothes, which were taken from him as he was booked into jail on Wednesday night. The suspect was not asked to enter a plea."
bbm

The video was very bizarre and it almost seemed like he was in total denial of what was going on with his focus on the clothes. Not sure what to make of it.

When I did some research...it is not about convictions, but arrests. In VA, they can take DNA at the same time as fingerprints, while booking, for some or all crimes, depending upon where you read. I know charges were later dropped.

Thank you. Im a paralegal/Hair dresser :) In Long island NY, I am not all too familiar with Virginia law.. Obviously they will take his DNA prior to sentencing as it is Vital evidence in this case, I was just stating that usually when someones arrested here on a felony, no matter what the charge, they have to submit DNA once the case is over, but when it involves something like rape, or murder, they will take it before hand

Not true. Here's a list to felonies that allow for DNA to be retrieved at arrest:

Thank you. Something to note, in states where a cheek swab is taken from arrestees, laws say the profile is to be destroyed upon acquittal or dismissal of charges. I haven't read the Virginia law yet, so I'm only speaking in general terms.

That's EXACTLY what the article says .. Lol I don't know how anyone can argue that??

I think the point Lava is making is that it is likely that police did not actually rule him out and DM reported incorrectly.

I find it interesting that they sent out a press release to clear the air that he did not have anything to do with the disappearance of AM, but did not clear the air about certain other cases? Thoughts? Think his DNA will lead to more charges?

When all are rushing for the "story" "headline" they all rush to be the first and half the time they get it wrong, just like the weatherman, he can't get it right either. jmo idk

LE stated early on they had already checked where MH body was found IIRC..
