VA VA - Kathleen Haley, 37, Newport News, 1 Sept 2012

DNA Solves

I have found NO ONE interested in following up on Kathleen's story. I believe part of that is the silence of her family and friends - none of them are in the media or on Facebook demanding answers. Their silence makes me wonder if they know what happened and who was responsible, someone who they are afraid of perhaps? I don't know.

Someone has to know something. I keep hoping that with the passage of time, that person will have the nerve to speak up and bring Kathleen home.

I still follow up on all stories regarding skeletal remains being found. Maybe someday it will pay off.

This is my first comment on the board so please bear with me (I know I'm in luck, clearly y'all are a patient kind bunch!! God bless ya!!)!!

I just wanted to "bump" for Kathleen and sweetest Molly.

As a lifelong resident of Richmond, Virginia, I am certainly no stranger to the Hampton Roads area, I don't think any Virginian is (you have to go through here to get to ANY Virginia or Carolina vacation destination). I have also been weighing my options and the possibility of a job offer in Hampton/Newport News. Combine this with Kathleen and I are close in age, and how could this not hit, literally, close to home. It makes my heart ache that no one has come forward. I don't give a rat's behind what your "reasons" are...They are NOT good enough. Last time I checked it does NOT take effort to do the right thing. I would be shouting from rooftops until someone had to come and take me away. I may be a "little" blonde girl, but I have a really big mouth on me.

:welcome: to WS :welcome6: great to get your input here! Well said! It appears there have been a number of cases like Kathleen's that just go cold. Wish local media would make more of a fuss!

THANK YOU OLDSTEVE!! I feel so welcome and warm and fuzzy!!
I was also a Broadcasting Major, however, I did not pursue it...Even though i wanted to focus on sports. One of the top reasons I didn't, rather couldn't, go any further was watching a news reporter who taught one of my classes, report about 20 feet from Alicia Showalter-Reynolds [dead] body. I couldn't do it. Seeing her report, doing her job, filling the masses in on something they longed to hear news on took something from "me" that still cannot be replaced to this day.
Twenty years later, I have learned the "media" is the root of quite a bit of evil, and frankly, Virginia news and radio is pure crap so I should really be thankful it wasn't my career path. Hee. (Can you believe it is as tough a market to get into as Miami?!!?)

Again, thanks from the bottom of my heart for making a gal feel welcome!!

Thanks DancingLilPackerDoll for your thanks :blushing:

It's funny that I decided to check on her thread today and here you guys are. I'm glad none of us have forgotten her. I wonder if the family's silence is at the request of LE? Possibly they know who this person is but don't want the media to get hold of his/her name. I'm not so sure I believe it was a military person that made her disappear anymore. It seems if they were on deployment and LE was waiting for them to come home, his/her arrest would have already happened.

You'd have to pay me quite a bit to move to Newport News. I suppose there are some good area of Hampton and NN but you just don't read about them in the news.

Never forgetting you Kathleen and Molly.

Hi lizzybeth!! I'm so glad you decided to check in tooooo!! 'Suppose that's what keeps these people and Websleuths "ALIVE"!!
We have been taught that cops are our friends, and we should trust them...never been a fan since one treated me like I was poo off his shoe when I was little. Now, as an adult jaded or not, I think even Detectives are almost inept. Clearly they aren't doing anything g to solve this crime. If it was someone I knew, I'd have to stop and wonder if by running my mouth it's at least doing something...it couldn't compromise an (ah hem) investigation THAT much!!, and frankly, it's a risk I would be MORE THAN WILLING to take. Family and friends have to live with it one way or the other.

Newport News police search for clues in 2012 missing woman case -

NEWPORT NEWS —
No one has seen Kathleen Patricia Haley since she was reported missing more than a year ago.

Haley, then 37, was last seen Sept. 1, 2012. Shortly after her disappearance, police released a composite sketch of a man seen in the area of her apartment Sept. 4 and who might have information in reference to Haley. Questions from the Daily Press led police to release a second sketch last week of the same man, but from a different person's view of him.

I'm glad her case is getting some media attention.

Am I understanding correctly that LE released a new sketch of the (same) man last week? If so, I cannot find it. It doesn't seem to be on the page with article linked above (unless my tablet just isn't showing it).

I've followed this case since I've been on websleuths, and it is one of the saddest things to see - it seems like no one has been advocating for Kathleen to find her (apparent) killer.

I am delighted though to see the update! It is good to know that the police have not just shoved this case into a corner.

This seems like such a solvable case. Surely Kathleen left something behind that tells who this person was, a phone number scribbled on a paper or something (although perhaps it was all on her computer which is now MIA). Or he would have left behind fingerprints or dna somewhere in the apartment. I sure hope they got DNA & fingerprints for future use, even if the perp is not currently in the system.

I need to reread this thread to refresh my memory.

Praying for a resolution to this case. Justice for Kathleen.

So sad there are still no answers on this lady.

I don't want to break any WS protocol... so I'll just say: Wasn't there a guy that was a POI in like most of VA's missing/murdered women at some point or another? He looks like a dead match to the composite, IMO. I believe he had been convicted of abduction before, but had some other charges dropped.

Anyone know why he hasn't been mentioned here?

Kathleen is listed in this article from last year -

Database lists 25 open cases of missing women in Hampton Roads
Posted 11:23 am, May 7, 2013, by Becca Mitchell, Updated at 11:28am, May 7, 2013

According to the National Missing Persons Database, there are 163 open cases of missing persons in Virginia.

88 of those cases are missing women, and 25 of those are from Hampton Roads, with the earliest dating back to 1977.

I wonder if she should be added to the list of potential victims of JLM in the Hannah Graham forum.

Folks please don't post photos of anyone who hasn't been named in MSM or by police as a POI or suspect

can anybody link to the sketch of the POI in this case? I cannot find it for the life of me...
