The purchase of knives after the murder really makes me think he did in fact dismember her. I thought he might have based on the apparent focus of the garage.
Yes, I am sadly thinking the same too MassGuy. Those knives. Or at least an attempt? Guess it will depend on the apparent drag mark evidence and what it shows. And maybe this individual was ‘keen’ enough not to use their own trash receptacles? Or at least not for everything?

Hope some vehicle telemetry, GPS, and doorbell cameras and CCTV might show something. And IIUC the residence is in a culdesac, dead end, or closed court street? Maybe that will help with some evidence retrieval and usefulness? MOO

The statute doesn't require a dead body here. There are plenty of no-body homicide cases to cite -- the law for concealment is also broadened to include intent.

And just in following Friday morning court hearing:

FOX 5’s Stephanie Ramirez was in court Friday when 37-year-old Naresh made his initial appearance, in-person, with a court-appointed translator to face a single charge in connection with his wife's disappearance. Prosecutors are accusing him of murdering 28-year-old Mamta, who has been missing for several weeks. But because her body has not been located, he is currently facing a class 6 felony charge in connection with concealing a dead body.

The judge denied Naresh’s release on Friday, and he remains held. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 24.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators said they found the home in disarray. Prosecutors revealed that two days prior, Naresh sold his Tesla. They also noted that the house appeared packed, with a suitcase and passports for both Bhatt and his daughter visible. Additionally, police spoke with two individuals who claimed he had discussed selling his home.

Authorities confirm that the couple's daughter, Neema, is safe and is currently in the care of someone approved by the Department of Social Services.

That, and her mother moved here, as many of us, looking for a better life for herself and her future children. The mother worked hard as a nurse. "For her American dream", one might say. Her baby was born here. I hope there is a chance to collect for a fund for her and maybe the community will help raising the daughter. JMO.
I think she will be unified with her maternal bio family. If that is the goal, I hop they allow her family to come here asap to start the bonding process.

I have seen a few local to me cases where a amercian citizen child (her parent's were not citizens, but she was born here) was sent to Mexico when her bio parents were incarcerated. It was a big deal, because by the time the state did it, she had been in Oregon foster care for almost ten years and did not speak spanish. It was really sad. And was pretty big news locally.

I don't think the US will keep her from her bio family, it is just going to be a process that they might be able to rush.

ETA I see her Mom was granted an emergency visa and is on her way.

IMO he sold the car and was attempting to sell the house with plans to leave the country. Mahfuza Rahman’s husband was able to flee home to Bangladesh with their daughter before he could ever be prosecuted for her murder.
I agree. He was steps away from leaving the USA and escaping justice, it seems.

"Bhatt is a former US Army Reserve automated logistics specialist who served from June 2017 to February 2024, Army spokeswoman Heather Hagan told CNN Friday. He has no deployments and left the Army in the rank of specialist, she said."
Of significance IMO in the above-cited online CNN article this afternoon by Alisha Ebrahimji entitled ‘Husband of missing Virginia mom is accused of killing her in their home then dragging her body outside, court documents show’ is the following……

“killing her in their home then dragging her body outside”…… based on the filed documents.

There was speculation earlier in the thread this morning, that with apparent purchase of knives, the suspect might have dismembered MKB.

Perhaps this update will influence locations and approaches authorities might use in the search for MKB. MOO
