Anyone know what a "walk-on athlete" is?

A self trained athelete who presents himself or herself during try outs with out being pre-selected to do so. They then do so well that they earn a place on the team. In atheletics, being a "walk on" carries a certain amount of prestige because it is so hard to do at the college / university level. Successfully doing it can indicate that the person is a "natural".

Just pointing out that nobody has been accused of helping to dispose of a body (not those words). She is accused of providing comfort, aid, etc etc (it was detailed a few posts back, I'll look and bring it forward) AFTER the commission of a completed felony by DE. Now, certainly this can change. But at this point, I think her charges could be related to something like picking DE up, hiding him if he came to her for help, helping concoct a story based on what he told her about the happenings -- even not coming forward with information she had about the commission of a crime. She could have been a passive actor, or yes, all in -- we just don't know yet.

Thank God none of us are judged by what complete strangers see in our photographs, whether sports highlight clips or mug shots. He acts smug and entitled in a sports clip? His family probably had to move across country because of some secret in his past? He's unattractive and has scrawny arms so must troll for sex with children? She looks angry and obviously has a nasty attitude (nevermind that she was probably dragged out of bed, interrogated for hours, and is scared to death)? Not enough birthday wishes on Facebook so must be unpopular? Does anybody recognize a tiny modicum of the bullying tone that so many of us have been blasting here? Anybody?

I totally get that people are angry. Trust me, so am I. But running these two teenagers down and attributing all kinds of thoughts, motivations and actions to them with nothing yet to back it up muddies the water we are all trying to navigate here.

There's a reason the very best detectives and LEOs (and doctors and nurses) are those who can think dispassionately in a crisis. The truth is usually awful enough without hand-wringing or embellishment, and it's the truth that must be found. Just something to think about.

The thanks button is not enough! I was trying to catch up on this thread and was thinking exactly everything you said. I keep thinking about my older son who is scrawny because of his condition as it can cause low muscle tone and will probably look different as he grows older, (he has NF1), my son has a high chance of growing tumors on his body when he goes through hormonal changes and I cannot bear the thought of him being torn apart for his looks, not an issue now as he's super handsome and always will be.

However, it doesn't matter how DE looks or NK, they committed crimes and that's that. Sorry for the OT rant, I have strong feelings about bullying and assuming all sorts of things about people just based on how they look.

Has it been made clear at this point that this was the first meeting between NL and DE? Just a thought- it's very common for transplanted individuals to be EBV positive. EBV can cause mono. I'm not finding any information that says whether or not it can be transmitted if the virus is latent, so not sure it's even possible, but is there a chance that she could have given DE mono at some point?

My first thought when I read he had mono was that Nicole had given it to him because of all the stuff she did have going on with her liver. I suspect her immune system was low. Pure speculation. As far as we know, I think this was their first hook-up.

If indeed he believed Nicole gave him mono, he might not have been happy with not being in tip-top shape for the track meets. Certainly not a reason to kill her though.

I don't understand it when people say that Nicole looks like she was growing up too fast. Her Internet prescence is clearly one of a 13-year-old. Asking people if they thought she was pretty? Posting pictures of her texts arguing with her dad? Just because she tried to do a "come hither" look in pictures or posted texts with cursing doesn't mean she was a "wild child" or ~mature for her age. It's almost amusing---I see these profiles of middle-schoolers where they try to act older but their profiles scream that they are immature.

Nicole wanted validation on her appearance, she wanted boys to think she was pretty, she wanted to appear ~cool on social media, but she still liked Disney movies. Sounds like a normal 13-year-old to me.

Well said. I think your assesment is both accurate and heart breaking.

Thanks I adjusted the map to show the general area where rt 89 and rt 18 meet. Here's the link to the map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z2VLvG6QAl8U.ka7xd-tCxjMI&usp=sharing

Here is a basic Google Map, which can be tilted and rotated to get a better view of the general area where poor Nicole was found. https://www.google.com/maps/place/1...0x88518b8925e49b39:0x3799ed4a866a1d81!6m1!1e1

Here is some more info on the area: http://mtairynews.com/archive/11415...icle-deadly_snowbird_curve_to_be_straightened

Thank you! Obviously this was not where Nancy Grace's reporter was...

The article does lend information as to why Nicole's body might have been dumped here:

"Along with its sharpness, the steepness of the mountain roadway adds to the hazards along with the narrowness of the two-lane route, which is particularly problematic during inclement weather, Shelton said.

“It’s one of the most-dangerous areas we’ve had for travel,” he added of Snowbird Curve in comparison to other locations in Surry County."

I believe there was recently a lot of inclement weather there. Was snow still on the ground?

Works in progress, just wanted to post brainstorm drafts.

Mono only mildly affects the liver. It's the spleen that is the main concern when one has mono. I had mono when I was in high school, back in the day it was a big deal. My daughter came down with in during her freshman year of college, she was out of school for about a week. It is very common for college freshman to contract the virus, since their immune system is compromised due to the stress of entering college and not eating right, etc. Apparently, about 90% of people in the US have had mono at some point in their life. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/understanding-mononucleosis-basics and http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/infectious-mononucleosis-topic-overview

I wonder if we could use a more modern singer that Nicole liked with Elvis's lyrics? Just a thought.

I wonder why DE is not charged with the same felony charge of improper disposal of a body and they only charged Keepers?

Eisenhauer is charged with first-degree murder and abduction, while Keepers is facing a felony charge of improper disposal of a body and a misdemeanor offense of accessory after the fact in the commission of a felony. Eisenhauer was arrested Saturday and Keepers on Sunday.

I had it also, as a senior in high school. Nasty illness -- I was out for 3 weeks. Nobody else that I knew had it or got it, including my boyfriend nor the kids that I drove to school with every day.

This is getting O/T.

However, I really like the black, white and red one. Now Elvis is not really cool with teens, but younger children say 4, 5, 6th grade might enjoy it. When my children were in elementary school I helped run the school variety show. The children had a lot of fun with some of the old rock songs. We did a skit set to a Chuck Berry song and another set to "Girls just want to have fun." I can see a skit set to the music from "don't be cruel" with some easy changes to the lyrics to make it a powerful message about bullying.

Better yet, I'd love to see some rapper use the "don't be cruel" music and chorus and rap up the verse words to fit the anti-bully message.

Nicole Lovell's mother to speak at 2 p.m.

Blacksburg police will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Nicole's mother, Tammy Weeks, will speak to reporters then.

Medical examiner finished with exam of Nicole Lovell. Blacksburg police are expected to update us in their investigation.

I have an appointment during that time, dang it. I will check back here later in hopes that someone will link to a replay of the conference.

One young lady that went to school with Nicole posted "I wish I had been nicer to her" later taking it down. As I have mentioned before this is the same school that my GD goes to. I have pictures of memorials the students have displayed to Nicole and her parents. Is it okay to share those here? Also its a shame it takes a young girl to loose her life for other students to be nice. My GD gets bullied there all the time and when her father and stepmother bring it up they say they do not tolerate bullying. but that is not true. I know first hand from talking to her that one teacher responded. "Really? Don't be making it harder for him then it already is!" This young boy was pulling my GD's hair, calling her fat....etc... but the teacher turns it on her! I personally think the teacher is scared to make waves afraid of being called a racist. My GD is a good kid and goes to church and believes no one could do her harm and that you should love everyone. Her other (not my daughter) tells her this. We are always trying to caution her to be careful as to who she trusts. I can see where Nicole would have easily trusted someone who showed her attention.

A local reporter told today that the VT Police Knew of the events of the abduction and murder of this girl before any other police agency got involved. I am waiting on more info on that one. There is a 2 pm news conference today. Don't know if its more charges or what...If I get more I will post it. The only think I can figure is that they discovered that he was having a relationship with a 13 year old. RIP Nicole

I pray this is a lesson to those that bully and get bullied what the outcome can become. I'm sure the girls or boys that teased her must feel very upset and ashamed. I pray they find peace. Hopefully a turning point to embrace everyone they encounter.
