^^ These last three or four posts made me so sad. Bullying needs to be stopped. So sad it took a young girl to loose her life to make some people realize it.

I wonder if we could use a more modern singer that Nicole liked with Elvis's lyrics? Just a thought.

Adele? I just have no clue what 13 y/o listen to now days. She was a fan of the Minions movie.

I like the Elvis in red and black the best!

Thank you! Obviously this was not where Nancy Grace's reporter was...

The article does lend information as to why Nicole's body might have been dumped here:

"Along with its sharpness, the steepness of the mountain roadway adds to the hazards along with the narrowness of the two-lane route, which is particularly problematic during inclement weather, Shelton said.

“It’s one of the most-dangerous areas we’ve had for travel,” he added of Snowbird Curve in comparison to other locations in Surry County."

I believe there was recently a lot of inclement weather there. Was snow still on the ground?

Yes there was still snow on the ground. You can see it in the video from the area where she was found in this video: http://www.wxii12.com/news/2nd-virginia-tech-student-charged-in-girls-death/37741922

Just getting in and caught up, good morning all :coffee: but I had an idea I want to share before I forget. Today is a snow day for us so the teacher here (great to see all the teachers here, iirc CanadianWells, fannybrice...) would like to do something productive here re: all this bullying crap on social media if somehow at all possible. In the Miss Universe/Steve Harvey thread I discovered a meme maker. Maybe I can try to design a few "cool" bullying is "not cool" memes, you know, love one another or something like that. Like what would John Lennon say about all this if he were here. I would love anyone's input on the specific manner in which to convey this message, and how we can make it cool enough that a teenager would want to put it on his/her page. If I/we can make some cool enough, we could start by maybe posting it on our own SM sites, and maybe it will be cool enough that others might want to share.

Maybe I can start with a Panda, since Nicole loved pandas. Maybe Elvis since she liked Elvis... (Hey!! What about "Don't Be Cruel?! )
love the idea! And miss teaching, so shout out to you teachers still in the classroom. Back to back maternity leaves and a move have left me out of the classroom, and I do miss it!

The road is pictured in the first video. I didn't even have to press play. It is just on the screen.

This is somewhat O/T, but I've been meaning to mention it since Keepers was arrested. The night before this news broke, I was watching a TV show called "Fatal Attraction" on OWN.

A lady met a man online, they started dating. A few weeks later she disappears. Her last ping puts her near the bf's house. Bank surveillance shows a male and female using her debit card after she disappears. Turns out, this guy was also dating this other woman, who helped dispose of the body. But, (now I fell asleep at the end but I think this was the direction it was going in), she did it unknowingly (I don't think this is the case here with Keepers, but it crossed my mind initially). What happened in this other case was the bf worked on cars. He told this woman he needed to drop off a car, so to follow him. So she followed him, he said wait here, drove the car into a remote area, and walked back, with a gas can, there was an immediate boom, she knew he was burning a car but did not know there was a body in the trunk, supposedly. Cops then asked her to lead them to this location.

Point is I think it has happened before that someone didn't know they were aiding in the disposal of a body, but I do not think this is the case here.

bam. There it is. Thanks for that! I was trying to think up plausible scenarios like this last night. Good example.

My first thought when I read he had mono was that Nicole had given it to him because of all the stuff she did have going on with her liver. I suspect her immune system was low. Pure speculation. As far as we know, I think this was their first hook-up.

If indeed he believed Nicole gave him mono, he might not have been happy with not being in tip-top shape for the track meets. Certainly not a reason to kill her though.

I think it's unlikely that Nicole gave him mono. Mono is caused by one of several viruses in the herpes virus family, the most common being Epstein-Barr. Symptoms usually appear 4-6 weeks after you come in contact with the virus. If his last race took place 2 weeks before Nicole went missing, that was roughly 3 weeks ago. And, because it takes anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months (on average) to recover from mono, DE would have contracted the virus more than two months ago. I doubt if he'd been talking to Nicole for that long... (I think the mom said they met on SM a few weeks ago, but I'm not 100% certain about that... so it's certainly possible.)

I think I read a quote from her mom in a news article that said she liked Luke Bryan and Sam Hunt!

But hey.... what female DOESN'T like those two? ;)

Hi! After reading websleuthes for a while I decided to join. I live in va. Have a gd the age of Nicole. My son graduated from VT a couple of years ago. And my sister lives in Galax. I found it odd the area he left Nicole. Until I noticed his connection to the area. ( As another person also stated.) It looks to be DEs grandparents that live in Galax on his mother's side. As well as other relatives in va and nc. He probably knew the area well.

Welcome, Mamabears6! Glad you decided to join us.

This video confirms that he has ties to the Galax area: http://www.wdbj7.com/video/medical-examiner-finished-with-exam-of-nicole-lovell/37773958

I pray this is a lesson to those that bully and get bullied what the outcome can become. I'm sure the girls or boys that teased her must feel very upset and ashamed. I pray they find peace. Hopefully a turning point to embrace everyone they encounter.

There was a boy in my elementary school grade who was picked on. He was just skinny and nerdy, or whatever. This was the late 70s. Well in 7th grade he got diagnosed with bone cancer. One teacher really got the kids involved with making him cards, visiting him etc. I never did visit because I was shy myself but I remember a lot of the popular kids did go visit him. While it was commendable that they did, I always sort of resented them for not treating him well to begin with...almost as if they were jumping on the drama bandwagon instead of feeling genuinely for him....he died the summer after 7th grade. I actually think of him quite a bit.

Not sure if this has been posted yet my apologies if it has but just read that Keepers has now also been charged with first degree murder - http://abcnews.go.com/US/va-tech-st...harged-murder-death/story?id=36665148&ts=true

Wow! Virginia Tech student Natalie Keepers, 19, was charged today with first-degree murder in connection with the abduction and killing of a 13-year-old girl, according to documents obtained by ABC News.

Keepers is being held without bail. She is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 4 at 9 a.m.

So they must have at least a COD already? To charge her with murder?

My GD goes to that same school as NL did. I know for a fact that the bullying is terrible there. My GD is a recipient of the same bullying. Kids can be so mean and cruel. I really feel for this little girl as I know as a teen I was picked on and bullied all the time. Boys can be mean too. Just like the kid that NL said was her bf, one picture on IG said she loved him and he said he loved her the next picture he is telling her she is too ugly! that he didn't want to have anything to do with her. I read all these comments with a heavy heart as all this sounded so familiar to what I went through. She wanted so bad to belong, to be loved. But she didn't feel important or loved. Incredibly sad. :tantrum:

I get so upset at some schools, that bury their heads in the sand, that girl should never have had to been kept home from school, to avoid abuse. Her mom mentioned that, and I recognized the *canned* response from the school about, "we have anti-bullying programs". (Deflect much?!)

One of my sons, was getting hurt almost daily, at school. It wasn't being dealt with, so I went to his school with a peer conflict mediation program outline, offered to help set up a program, volunteer, and offer whatever I could to help. Their response?

"We don't have a violence problem here".

Really? Then why is my 9yr. Old coming home with shoe prints...ON HIS FACE?!

"Oh, it's just one family doing these things. We heard they're planing to move, so we hope they do"

I am serious. That was their answer.

I told them I wasn't sending my child to school to be hurt, and I kept him out 11 days, (total, not consecutive). They took me to court for "educational neglect."

When I told the Judge why, I didn't send him, the truancy officer for the district said, "we disagree with ms. Safeguards claim that our schools have a violence problem"

Judge goes," we are not here to decide that today, BUT I will say this, 90% of all the assault cases, that come through this court room, happen in your schools!"

You could have knocked me over with a feather!

This, " Nope, nothing wrong here! Must be the kids home life", attitude that a lot of school systems still have, is part of the problem.

I see changes, in some schools, but not nearly enough of them.

This case just gets more baffling and weirder by the minute!

“She loved anything to do with 5 Seconds of Summer. She loved country music too — Elvis Presley, Conway Twitty. She liked Jason Aldean, Sam Hunt, all of them. I took her to a Brad Paisley concert when they had it at Tech.” - Nicole's mother.
