Can we discuss the defense opening statements here? I guess during opening statements, no one is allowed to yell, "Objection!"
Specifically at 6:00 of this video:

"We will hear that Mr. Rogers was her protector, in terms of physically, financially and emotionally. Until, she hooked up with the police. That the police convinced her that Mr. Rogers was guilty of this and that he would be put to death."
I think the wording "she hooked up with the police" doesn't sound very nice or is an educated way of stating she was interviewed by police. To me, it doesn't matter how he "provided for her" when she was later told, by JRR, that he killed Teresa with a hammer. As a matter-of-fact (IMO) it gives me less reason to believe she "hooked up" with anybody as her loyalties were to JRR up and until the time he told her what he did. (IMO, the defense had very little sizzle and a whole lot of fizzle.)
Heck, maybe the police even told TaySho she was in danger. And, if they did....bless them, because she probably was in danger! CWW was already trying to pry information out of her. Her "protector" was using her to dispose of evidence....yep, she was in danger. She knew JRR and CWW had gone to Florida and that MS's wife was killed at the same time they were in Florida!
I can think of at least 8 family members, spouses, employers and friends who knew CWW & JRR were going to Florida....heck, the only thing they didn't do was post it on a billboard in the center of town!

Taylor will be on the stand all day when its her turn or possibly for two days. She is a big player in this case. JMO

Yes she is ! So much so, that on Friday I could see the defense trying to discredit her when Detective Downs was on the stand. I hope prosecution is working with her to stay confident and not let the defense shake her up.

Hi IQ! You know I didn't even listen to the defense opening statement because I knew their spinning tales would upset me. I agree "hooked up" was a very poor choice of words probably done on purpose to undermine Taylor's credibility. I take it that the State did not object to the term? I am hoping the prosecution will do its best to to point out what you said....that "her loyalties were to JRR up and until the time he told her what he did." Saying also that she was scared (being surrounded in a town by JR's friends) how to come forward without putting herself in danger, etc. etc.
 
Oh gosh... Ive got to be out all day on Wednesday. I really don’t want to miss the live of TS’s or CWW’s testimony. Nothing like trying to schedule one’s week around a trial!

DEBBIEGARCIA:) Hamid did a good job in his opening statements.
(Everyone is a little nervous with all the TV and press coverage.) And of course "pure genius" when he brought up the fact JRR said he had "no problem with doing the time for 2nd degree murder." Apparently, JRR does have a problem facing a DP case though. Glad you got to watch Dreamy Det. Downs on the stand....he is smart and cool. (He's got Andy Garcia suave!) I'm sure there was a great deal of job satisfaction when he got to escort MS on his infamous perp walk.
I see TaySho as a small town girl without guile. She had no reason to be vengeful towards JRR, and had a peaceful life with him until he confessed he committed a murder. I think the jury will see this, plain as day. If the defense attorney is going to "mock and intimidate" her because she doesn't have a lot of formal education, I just don't think it will go over very well with anyone in the courtroom. JRR may have a problem with it, too. After all, she is the Mother of his only child and someone with whom he shared a "normal life" for a time.
And DebbieG you brought up a really interesting thought. If the defense is going to use words like "hook-up" and "uneducated" & "single parent" to undermine a witness's credibility, perhaps they should save their verbal ammo, condescending tone and snarkiness for going after Curtis Wayne Wright!
PS. The Feds and states often pay to help witnesses with expenses. If all TaySho is receiving a little help to pay her rent and live in a safe area....BRAVO!! That is a financial bargain in our society. This is info on how much is paid to maintain the secret identity of witnesses in other cases:

You are so right about Detective Downs! I was thinking the same thing. I'm a natural worrier so thanks for your positive thoughts with regard to TaySho and how the jury will see past any attempts to undermine her. :)
 
No Cast-Off on Ceiling? No Blood on Blue Jumpsuit?

(Sorry--I do not know how to capture these clips and present them here.)
On Friday, 10/11/19, the defense for JRR slipped in that detectives did not spot any blood cast-off on the ceiling. Forensics did not find any blood on the jumpsuit, although they found JRR's mitochondrial DNA from his hair on the jumpsuit. So what?

What about the 30-gallon-trash bags they purchased at WalMart? We all know that JRR and CWW were not neatniks. They could've easily layered some of these bags (one inside the other), and pulled them over Teresa as she passed by the pantry. Not only would this restrict her movements, it would contain the splatter from the blows--hence, no cast-off on ceiling, no blood on jumpsuit.

JRR and CWW had plenty of time to hash out the details while they were in prison, together.

I don't like being so morbid about it, but sometimes you have to go to hell to catch a demon. Imagine these poor homicide detectives, going through this type of stuff, day in and day out. LE has enough evidence to connect the dots. And then again, we have TaySho. TaySho is priceless.

Justice is coming.

Arachne....You may have just put all the pieces together, whether you know it or not, IMO!!! Maybe the 30 gallon trash bags were not only used in a purpose similar to the one you proposed, but also used to dispose of the bloody clothing JRR and CWW were wearing. Who was going to notice (or even care about) a couple of tourist dumping black garbage bags in dumpsters behind buildings along major thoroughfares as they headed North, out of town? When police first contacted JRR, it was noticed that he went into a panic (per TaySho) and started grabbing things to hide/dispose. I think JRR in his panic forgot he had already disposed of one/two? blue jumpsuits in the black garbage bags in Florida!
No way was that jumpsuit planted, by CWW as some have suggested. If he was going to plant evidence, he would have put a lot more of Teresa's hairs on it! (....ya' know what a planner/thinker he is:D:D) No way would he take the risk of the FBI finding the "one and only hair" found on the jump suit. I think the hair was a lucky find (passive transfer from another item).....not planted evidence. Ironically, it wasn't until nearly 6 months later when CWW confessed, anyone was able to confirm that blue jump suit/overalls were actually worn. JRR's "panicking" and grabbing the blue jumpsuit..... ended up "outing" his own murder outfit. (Just because he isn't the shiniest utensil in the drawer....doesn't make him any less deadly.)

During the Prosecution Opening Statement, there was no mention of the murderers putting anything over Teresa prior to attacking her. Prosecutor described JRR and CWW as unprepared when Teresa arrived home.

She pulls in. She gets out of the van, she’s unaware that she has two visitors. She takes out her little rolly [rolling] suitcase and puts it down on the floor of the garage and proceeds into the house. Mr Rodgers [Wright!] falls in behind her. She doesn’t know he’s there. And she doesn’t know that Jimmy Rodgers is in the house. And, at this time, Mr Rodgers, Mr Wright, the plan is blown. She arrived ahead of schedule. Didn’t know what to do. He grabs a hammer. He knew that Jimmy Rodgers had a hammer because Jimmy Rodgers was playing with a hammer earlier. Made a crack about it being Dr Sievers destiny or something to that effect. So he follows her into the home. And the plan was to try to come up behind her and put her in a chokehold or something. But as he was following her into the home, his foot kicked a dog bowl that was on the floor […] He said the sound was like a gong. Now his presence in the home is revealed. Dr Sievers had time to put her purse down and turned around to see Mr Wright standing behind her. She looked at him like “why?” and Mr Wright hit her with the hammer. He hit her again. She started to fight with him. She had her hands up trying to protect herself fighting with Mr Wright. Mr Wright is going to tell you that at some point Mr Rodgers came out of nowhere. […]

This is what I said earlier in the thread....

I think JRR was in the pantry. The state said that CWW was in the garage when TS surprised him coming home earlier than he expected. He followed her in the house, knocked the metal bowl over, she turned around and there was CWW. He struck her first then JRR came out of the pantry doing his overkill. Remember the state said that CWW stated that JRR just went on a frenzy with the hammer.

Good point! I was stumped as to why the overalls didnt have any blood on them.

Yes, I think so too. Perhaps hiding when he heard the garage door open. I recall reading early on that LE took the pantry door perhaps because they found fingerprints inside the door? Not sure though.

Trial began on 10/10/19. Trial expected to last 4 to 5 weeks. Jury: 5 men & 7 women, 2 alternates: 1 man & 1 woman.

Deputy Jonathan Armato (Lee County Sheriff's Office, a former detective in the major crimes unit). Gladys Martinez Lee County Sheriff's Office, works in the forensic division & was a crime scene technician during the Sievers homicide investigation)-Martinez observed & collected fibers during the autopsy. Lt. Mike Downs (who eventually became a lead on this investigation). Judge overruled defense objection to mug photo of Jimmy Rodgers being used as identifier. Another crime scene technician (no name given). Capt. John Long (LCSO, leads the forensic division). Trial continues on Monday, 10/14.
