Heres the problem with craigslist. An escort uploads an add with her phone #. Its there for all to see. The guys dont have to click on anything to get information. Thats why theres no electronic footprint. A killer might avoid adds where a e-mail response is needed.

So, am I correct in assuming that the person (vips) posting ads was paid up-front... no matter if she got zero responses or ten responses? (I've always been thinking the person posting the ad needed to know when she took a call so they could get their "cut")

And, would this be different in MW's case... I'd think Cruz would want to know about any/all $$ MW might have earned.

How did the killer get Maureen? Did he approach her on the street? Did she get a call? Was she also promised alot of money to spend the night? It seems like she let her guard down because she checked out of the hotel.

Maybe MBB had more than one phone, but IIRC... her sister had the phone records.

If my memory serves me MBB paid someone in NYC to post for her. To keep her adds on top. She paid him to do this for her. She eventually cut him out. Correct me if Im wrong. Its been a while since I read the book.

I dont think the pimps got paid for adds posted. They took their cuts from the girls.

If she got a call (and assuming she only had 1 phone) then her sister (who had the phone records) would be able to provide LE with the last incoming call. If this is the case, then it would seem he approached her some other way (not by phone).

Or maybe I'm all confused about it ;)

She does have phone records. Its possible the caller used a throw away phone. Melissa and Amber left their homes. Megan walked away from a room that was already paid for. Maureen checked out of her hotel room. Seems like the killer promised everyone big money to spend the night.

From people mag a week ago. I didn't see it posted anywhere and had not heard this tale before,

http://people.com/crime/long-island-serial-killer-update-police-fbi-investigation/

A friend of Maureen Brainard-Barnes says she got an odd call a few days after the 25-year-old vanished in 2007.

The man said she was at a whorehouse in Queens,” Sara Karnes tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue. “I told him she would never go for that, because she was independent. He goes, ‘Well, that’s where I saw her.’ And he described her to a T to me.

Karnes, who passed her information on to the police, says the man she spoke to didn’t have an accent. “He definitely isn’t from New York, Boston or Maine, because those are the strongest places the accent comes out of. But he accentuated his S’s and his T’s. He spoke properly.

I just heard it too. Was Sara Karnes mentioned in Kolker's book? Not if I recall correctly...hoping these new specials truly provide new info!

Yes, Sara was mentioned in "Lost Girls" Here's a little blurb (from the book) in this article/review:

"Maureen had told Sara that she'd worked as an escort practically full time before she got pregnant with Aidan. That was when she learned that you needed the break. Otherwise, the sex could make you jaded," Kolker writes. "Ninety percent of her clients were married. Some of them didn't take off their rings. The calls could feel like an assembly line to Maureen — like work."

She was featured prominently in Robert Kolker's book as part of the story of Maureen. However this new information about the phone call was not in the book. Whether Robert omitted this story or was not aware of it is the key question.

There has to be some legitimacy to this call, otherwise how would this person have Sara's phone number? If the Sara is indeed telling the truth, the caller would have needed access to Maureen's phone to get the phone number. Further, this caller would have needed to have some relationship with Maureen, rather than just seeing her at a whorehouse. He would have needed to know the friendship between Sara and Maureen. I suppose he could have had Maureen's phone and randomly picked a name in her contacts and called, but more likely, he spent time talking to Maureen and got her to open up. Which, as with the other victims, is a major part of his signature. We also need to know what else was said during this conversation. Lastly, did Kolker purposely leave this information out in his book, and if so, why? Or did Sara not reveal it to him for some reason, which would be odd, because she was presumably interviewed at length by Kolker, and Kolker is very good at his job.

Sorry but I simply do not trust the legitimacy of Sara's "story" for one second. LE has been an open book about calls made by the killer, where the cell phones pinged, etc... yet here we have a brand new call that never once was mentioned?? A brand new witness with information that never once was told to the press or more importantly, the families of the other victims? Sorry miss Sara, I don't trust your story and do not believe it to have an ounce of validity. If this is a bomb that the Killing Season is planning to drop on us then it better be a confirmed bomb with a logical explanation as to why (especially the family members of other victims and their attorneys) were not privy to.

I have to agree, especially since miss karnes was busted in a prostitution ring in new London ct in 2014. So I guess she did not learn her lesson. I just can't believe anything she says. Why did she not report phone call immediately???

That's what I was getting at...thanks for explaining my concerns better than I did!
