What group of women? You are leaping to some conclusions that I do not think are justified by the amount of information we have.
If Maureen advertised on the Internet she wasn't going to be independent for too long. Mel said she was introduced to the trade by other gals. What do you think those gals were doing? For all we know a pimp could have stepped into her and demanded she join up. She resisted and they killed her. The possibilities are infinite.
If Mel has an inside source in the PD or DA, I wouldn't put too much stock in it. Gosh sakes the PC and DA differed on what the case is about.

I posted the same on another thread earlier. I don't know if soliciting on the web made her meeting up with a trafficker inevitable, but I'd wager the odds were pretty good it would happen sooner or later. Her friend said she called in distress and said she'd been robbed of the money she made that day. We don't know her exact words, but it's possible what she really meant is that the person she met that day wouldn't give her the money she'd earned. Being independent minded, did she return to demand her money? If Maureen advertised on the Internet she wasn't going to be independent for too long. Meltruth may I ask; you said thatMaureen lived with you in 2006, but when did Maureen then move out from your place and into her own apartment? and what was the address she moved into when she left your place?
Taken from http://nymag.com/news/features/long-island-serial-killer-families-2011-6/The weekend she disappeared, Maureen had taken the train into the city with friends, but she left them once she got to Manhattan. Cann says her sister usually worked from a hotel room and never saw johns at their places. Maureen was adamant about working only in Manhattan and never said anything to Cann about working in Long Island. At one point that weekend, Maureen called a friend from the Port Authority and said she’d been robbed of all the money she’d earned. She needed a ride home, but the friend couldn’t come get her. After that call, no one heard from Maureen again. For three years, the NYPD had reported no trace of her—except, in 2008, for one cell-phone-signal ping off a Long Island tower, just a few miles from Gilgo Beach. “Someone was trying to access Maureen’s cell-phone voice-mail,” Cann says. When she saw the news about Gilgo Beach, Cann knew Maureen had to be one of the bodies.
MELTRUTH, thank you for your quick response.
The next set of questions that none of us would ever be able to confirm are in regards to how she placed her ads online on Craigslist;
- Did she have an account with Craigslist in her own personal name that she used her own credit card to pay for?
- Did anyone else help her upload her ads?
- Did she use a laptop to upload the photos and update her ads?
- What happened to her laptop? Do the police have it?
- Did she have a smartphone that she could have utilized to access the internet to update her ads?
- Speaking of cell phones, did she have more than one?
- What happened when you tried calling her cell phone(s) when she went missing? Did the calls go directly to voicemail (or did her phone ring a few times indicating that her cell phone was still on)?

Her phone was used the year AFTER she went missing? Sorry I hadn't realized that timeline before. Seems our SK has a real thing with phones of the victims....
There is a lot of good info in this one article, the author brought together the families to interview together. Just wanted to add that the article is not new, just worth a re-read.
MELTRUTH - Do you have a sense of things they are going to catch her killer?
I have to believe they will. I only have the hope that one day this person will be held responsible. I believe the police has not gotten enough credit on this case and has been criticized for nothing. Please remember this case is not a easy as everyone thinks. It is hard to connect one killer to how many people and prove this person killed all of them. If I think they will find out who did this. YES OF COURSE! What police department wants a serial murderer free to kill another human being.
Unfortunately, I can not answer some of those questions for you cause it is part of the investigation. I am sorry. Maureen did not have a computer. So for the Norwich Police department to say they went down to NYC and got her lap top is wrong they did not even really investigate her missing.Sad to say but it is so true. In the matter of how she posted I can't say too much about that but she posted before she left CT to go to Ny that weekend. Other than that I can not say much about it. It took them 2 1/2 years to put here in Namus. Maureen only had one cell phone. The first few times I called her it would ring and ring than go to voice mail where we could leave messages. Within a week her voice-mail got filled up by us calling and leaving messages. Than it would ring and than say voice mail is full good bye. Than shortly after that it got turned off and it would not ring.
Thank you so much for your reply. It amazes me over and over agsin how much false info has been spread by the media!
