If that is how they found out, I have a BIG problem with that. I'd like to have a definitive answer as to how the police found out she was at the Williams' house.

Calliope - Will you please elaborate on what you mean? Do you mean if LE didn't find out she was at the Williams until after they found the van? I am not sure LE was looking for her until then. Or were they? RS doesn't state when he notified LE she was missing. If he did report it that evening and he knew about her stop at the Williams', then one would expect he would tell LE about it. If he didn't, then I too have a BIG problem with that. But if he didn't report her missing until say after he got a few hours sleep and headed back out at sun break - then LE would not have known about her stop at the Williams until then - unless the Williams themselves called LE at the time, which I do not think they did.

Can someone point me to a legitimate link that says that one of the shoes was a mans and one was Shantina's?

I am under the impression that one, size 9 is Shantinas. And one, size 13 or so is Azriels.

In the picture, the larger shoe is a womans shoe.

Maybe she told her GP where she was calling from and caller ID showed the number.

But how did the police find out she'd been at their house? Did RS or grandfather call them back for more information or did RS tell the police about this? Did the Williams' tell the police?

We have a mother and small child who simply *vanished*, and from all accounts, completely out of character for her to do so. At that point, no one had any idea who the Williams were, what they may have done to SS and AC, if they'd held them or followed them out or simply if they had some idea what direction she'd taken or anything she may have said to give them a clue as to where she was ... all he knew was these people had seen Shantina, and there had been no contact from her since. So why not check into that immediately?

IIRC didn't RS call her GP to see if they heard from her? And was told she had called. I do not know if it has been said who told police she used the phone there.

Police also found a wine bottle, and a man's and woman's shoe. It's not clear if the bottle found on the beach matches the brand purchased by Smiley at the store.http://www.q13fox.com/news/kcpq-031410-missingmomandson,0,6651388.story

If you compare it to the other items, you can see that it's not. The police said there was a man's shoe size 13, and the other may have been a child's shoe.

My grandson wears a size 12 - 13. His shoes aren't as long as a dasani water bottle (a pepsi measures about 10 inches, my grandson's shoes about 8 inches, possibly a little bit smaller ... he was squirming a bit lol). The aerochamber is about 6 inches long. The smaller shoe is much bigger than that, nearly as long (or as long) as the water bottle.

It has been discussed many many times that RS identified the "smaller shoe", size 9, as belonging to Shantina. Therefore the "larger" shoe must be the size 13.

I still think from the picture, the small shoe looks like a child's size 13 (which would be about right for Az) and the larger shoe looks like a woman's size 9. RS said she wore a 9 wide.

I think the reporting of RS identifying the "smaller" shoe as Shantina's could be incorrect.

Ohhh I just found this when I was trying to find the article:

"The shoe that washed up on shore Sunday was small enough that it might fit a child, said Cora Tunbert, who found the items while walking with friends near her Island View Court home." from http://www.justice4caylee.org/unres...a-smiley-thurston-county-olympia-wa-t5461.htm

I wear a woman's size 9 shoe and mine are longer than a dasani water bottle. It's confusing.

Nope. Whatever has been discussed is wrong.

I just found out for sure...
The size 9 bigger shoe is the size 9 womans shoe.
The smaller shoe is a boys size 13.

There was NO mans shoe found.

SLOPPY SLOPPY reporting, at best.

How did you find out for sure?

I asked someone who knows. Sorry to be cryptic, not going to ID the person here.

There was no mans shoe.

ETA: I merged two of Amanda's posts to better clarify what she is saying. This information is unsubstantiated per Amanda's right not to ID the source. That means we consider it rumor. Salem

I think something was staged, but I cannot figure out all the logistics, and I agree, it would be nice to hear more from LE. They surely MUST be working on all these things, must have noticed them all....

The items were for the sole purpose of getting them into the hands of LE to quickly conclude accidental drowning and case closed. If they had not placed these items then investigators might continue to look for her. So far it appears that the plan is working. I hope for another update from them. But, to update the public is also to update her and her accomplice so, we may not hear anything until a bigger break in the case occurs.

You have two coins that equal 30 cents. One of them is not a quarter.

List of items ID'd by police.

Lt. Mealey says his team has identified contents found on a beach. Some belong to Shantina and Azriel, and some do not. Lt. Mealey also mentions that they could have fallen out of the family mini-van because the doors and hatch were left open:

• Wine bottle (Shantina was seen purchasing this earlier in the night at the Handy Pantry around 7:55 p.m., it was found on the beach, half empty with the cap on it)

• Baseball (not identified)

• Orange ball (does belong to Azriel)

• Possibly a men’s shoe, size 13 (not identified)

• Asthma inhaler (belongs to Azriel)

• Two water bottles (unidentified)

• A woman or man’s shoe size, 9w (does belong to Shantina)http://www.michellesigona.com/2010/03/shantina-smiley-still-missing-remembering-azriel/:dance::waitasec::snooty:

Sometimes people really DO need to check their stories out before they print/publish.

News sites are barely more than sad. Usually half wrong, misspelled hideously worded.
It is no wonder we often think the victims are the perps.

There's a top-down photo of the shoes in question here:
http://www.kirotv.com/image/22879043/detail.html

I believe her's is actually the larger shoe.

If it was a men's size 13 shoe - just the length of the foot itself is going to be 11.7 inches, then you've got the shoe itself - that would have to be one giant bottle of Dasani to make it look about the same length.

I actually think the larger shoe is hers. Any of the women here have a size 9 and can tell us how large it looks in comparison to a water bottle? (It also doesn't look like the style a guy would wear imho...)

My woman's size 9W is larger than a 20 oz. dasani water bottle.

The shoe on the left is close in size to the Dasani water bottle which looks to me as if it is a 1 Liter water bottle. I just measured my foot, which is a size nine, to a 1 liter water bottle and it is very close in size. I believe the shoe on the right appears to be a man's shoe. Also, if you go back and look at videos -- Shantina was wearing similar shoes and Azriel was wearing tennis shoes.

Thanks!

The larger size shoe must be hers. The smaller shoe is about the same size.

A boy's size 13 is 7.5 inches (for the foot, not the whole shoe.)
