The prosecution speech has concluded. The defence speech is starting from David Elias acting for Whall.

40m

“We ask you not to take a broad brush approach and to look very carefully and dispassionately at the evidence.” Says Mr Elias.

38m

“Have the prosecution made you sure of Terence Whall’s guilt?” Mr Elias says.

36m

The last person that Whall was in touch with before he left to go to the Porthdafarch Beach was Thomas Barry Williams. Apart from a text at 1am in the morning to his partner. The next person he tried to contact was Barry.

33m

The prosecution say “there are too many coincidences” is the jury going to follow the coincidences or analyse the evidence on which the prosecution relies.

31m

Would you have known of those things that Marie Bailey told the police about Richard Wyn Lewis from the prosecution or Thomas Barry Williams.

30m

Mr Williams is not on trial but Mr Elias wants to look at evidence relating to Mr Williams - what he was doing and the lengths he went to cover that up and involve his family and his partner Suzy.

30m

Trial adjourned for lunch.

Trial about to resume.

38m

David Elias is resuming the defence closing speech for Terence Whall.

36m

Whall was asked in interviews if Thomas Barry Williams was significant “in all of this”. Depends what you mean by all of this replies Wahll.

35m

With Barry Williams he was alleged to have “set up an alibi he doesn’t give” to police says Mr Elias.

32m

After more questions about Barry, Whall doesn’t want to discuss what they were up to, but eventually says “I was out somwhere that I didn’t want Emma to know where I was”. “I was with someone I shouldn’t be”. “I was having an affair” that was “on and off”.

32m

Is that a man who set up an alibi with a mate before he was ever arrested or was that a man who was wrestling with “what he needed to tell or not tell” says Mr Elias.

30m

In agreed facts Mr Elias says sightings of Mr Williams van 10.10pm April 18. Travelling westbound Bangor towards Anglesey then across Britannia Bridge. The timings fit with what Whall said that he came to his house.

28m

Police analyst confirmed phone contact between Whall and Mr Williams on April 18/19. Whall’s partner is away and he wanted to hook up with Mr Williams.

23m

Whall said Mr Williams put his phone on airplane mode “They were together” said Mr Elias. In evidence Mr Williams asked for a break because of “all that was going on.... between me and Terry.”

On April 19 at about midday Mr Williams gets rid of his phone. Mr Williams immediately gets a new phone and that was because he had one thing to hide, says Mr Elias.

20m

Mr Williams said he had damaged his phone the night before and that was backed up by his partner Suzy - but she didn’t mention that to police in her statement, says Mr Elias.

12m

Mr Elias said Mr Williams is not on trial, but his mum and sister were his alibi - he said he went to Anglesey to get his wallet from the family home on April 18.

7m

“What did Barry have to hide?” The evidence points that he met up with Whall, says Mr Elias.

4m

Mr Williams said “Terry took photos” that’s nowhere in Whall’s interviews. That was the reason why Whall said he smashed his phone and then tried to get in touch with Mr Williams to say it wouldn’t happen again.

4m

Mr Williams said he and Whall “spent a lot of time alone together.”

2m

Whall’s number was the third most popular on Mr Williams phone - why is he trying to distance himself? says Mr Eilas.

1m

Mr Eilas says a fundamental part of the case is that all the evidence shows that Whall and Mr Williams met in the way Whall said.

Mr Williams, “like Whall, was in a very very difficult position”. Suzy his partner was expecting a child quite soon. “Is that why he wanted a break” in the trial when he was giving evidence.

Telematics - two doors opening or closing at once within the same second, can give a reading of just one door.

Mr Eilas says the telematic evidence can be fit to a theory and that’s what the prosecution has done “but that’s not fair” he says.

Purchases made by Whall. Mr Elias says on April 11 there was a crossbow purchase that came 7 days later and arrived on April 23 - that had nothing to do with what happened to Mr Corrigan.

14m
The purchases in February and March are nothing to do with that crossbow says the prosecution - how can you be sure says Mr Elias.

Whall had £36,000 debts from 2016 - not after and up to April could earn £60 an hour. Whall volunteered the fact to police that he had another crossbow and buys another crossbow which he didn’t use to commit a crime.
He then burns a car out a month and a half later that would only draw attention to himself from the police. “Did any of that make sense?”

Richard Wyn Lewis is a fraudster because of what Marie Bailey told the police, said Mr Elias and he took her to his home and told her “don’t tell police about the money”.

Mr Elias says the money had run out - the days before the killing of Mr Corrigan. There is not a shred of evidence to link Terence Whall to Richard Wyn Lewis before the killing.

Gavin Jones did some work for Richard Wyn Lewis and wanted paying - that’s it.

There’s no evidence Whall met Mr Lewis before May 31.

Agreed facts are there was an incident between Gavin Jones and Mr Lewis and Whall was present.

Whall got into a Mercedes that was being used by Mr Lewis and belonged to Geraint Williams.
That was the car Whall placed the tracker on.

Whall thought Mr Lewis was going to take the Mercedes to Ireland.

June 3 - the day the Land Rover was burned out. Mr Elias says there is 35 minutes locking and unlocking at a car park - could have been somebody trying to reprogramme the key.

35m
That car could be boosted even with the key still being in the house, said Mr Elias.

33m
June 3 its a month and a half after the death of Mr Corrigan, says Mr Eilas. That day Whall left at 11.05am to take his partner to the dentist. His car is there and then its not. He wasn’t there when it was taken.

32m
“He would get someone to take the car and then meets the people who took and burned it an hour later?” said Mr Elias.

31m
Some of Darren Jones DNA is on a key for the Land Rover - its not possible to date when that happened or whether it was primary or secondary.

28m[/URL]
A witness came to Whall’s house and saw him firing the crossbow with his son. He wasn’t hiding it.
The witness said he couldn’t treat him because he had a bad knee.
On April 8 went to the doctor and was seen to have “restricted movement” and “some swelling” in the knee.

28m
Whall has told the jury of the guilt of meeting Barry again. “Was that put on?” Asks Mr Elias.

27m
Mr Eilas says the police investigation - checks were made on the bolts and they were very mass produced and their search was limited to three sites. They are available in retail outlets.

26m
Any number of these must have been mass produced - the same with the broadheads. They were cheap, low quality.

27m
The main evidence is about what Whall was or was not doing with Mr Williams on the night of the shooting.

26m
Prosecution say “don’t worry about a motive,” “who else could it be?” Says Mr Elias.
There were other vehicles that weren’t traced that evening.

Elizabeth Rees told the police on the night of the shooting she said she saw a small vehicle near Gof Du between 11pm and midnight or slightly later and it was “very unusual”, which turned its lights on and off and drove to the road.

Police had that evidence that day, said Mr Elias, but the prosecution say don’t worry about that and they know who it was. But was it? Says Mr Elias.

Everyone must accept what happened to Gerald Corrigan “was horrific and a “heinous act”. But the reason why it happened it is entirely unclear. Whall “had absolutely no reason to do this.”
19m
What you have heard must cast doubt on the prosecutions case and the primary evidence what Whall was doing there are “too many loose ends” and “too many unknowns”.

19m
If your look at the evidence “you can be far from sure of the guilt of Mr Whall and you must find him not guilty.

I’ll be covering the crossbow murder of Gerald Corrigan trial today at Mold Crown Court.

7m

Trial set to resume.

5m

James Tilbury is giving his closing speech for Gavin Jones who is accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and conspiracy to commit arson - the burning of a Land Rover.

5m

Hi case concerns a single date June 3 2019 - when the Land Rover was burned in a disused quarry.

3m

It’s a question of interpretation of the timeline, says Mr Tilbury and what are the proper inferences the jury can draw from them and if the prosecution is asking them to draw “an inference too far.”

2m

The June 3 allegations are “not black and white” or “open and shut”. If you explore “around the edges” there are “cracks” “gaps” and “question marks” says Mr Tilbury.

1m

Do you have a safe and reliable answer to “was he in the loop or out of the loop?” There are just as many questions and answers and if “you can’t be sure” he’s not guilty, says Mr Tilbury.

The plea from Gavin Jones’ brother - Darren Jones - to the arson of the Land Rover should have no bearing.

2m

Is it fair to say that because Gavin and Darren are brothers they do everything together. “Might Darren be capable of doing things on his own?” Asks Mr Tilbury.

1m

There is no direct evidence to implicate Gavin Jones in the burning out of the Land Rover on June 3. No witnesses or shared texts, no suspicious documentation or admission by him in interview he was involved. It was an “adamant denial”.

1m

There is no forensic link to tie him to the Land Rover Discovery or arson.

1m

“It’s all circumstantial evidence” says Mr Tilbury.
