I thought it was looking to the right that was supposed to indicate deception, not the left. For what it's worth, here's an article saying looking to the left/right doesn't matter:

His constant smiling is odd. You can tell by his fidgeting hands that he's uncomfortable so I wouldn't be surprised if it's some kind of nervous tic but jeez, it just comes off kind of excessive. John's the same way, though, always smiling in his interviews. It's disconcerting to see Burke talking about his mom barging into his room crying "Where's my baby, where's my baby?" with apparent amusement anyway. I agree with whoever said Burke seems like he's been 'over it' for a while and is going through the motions. The last line in the clip where he says, "As to why I'm doing it now? It's the 20th anniversary and
apparently still a lot of attention around it." Maybe it's the editing and the rest of the sentence will sound better but that sounds pretty detached to me. Especially the way he says "apparently" kind of flippantly, like he doesn't get what the big fuss is about. Nothing about wanting justice for his little sister or finding the killer or honoring Jonbenet's memory, just "apparently" people want to hear about it. Again, maybe the rest of the quote is better but it bothered me. I wonder why they chose to edit it so the clip would end that way.
