I am confused about the whole timing thing:

-paramedic William Smith arrived at 5 Maple Gate Crt. at 7 p.m., he said the man’s son told him he’d tried to get hold of his father for a few days before finding him dead in bed. The elder Millard was cold to the touch and skin was dark. “He was beyond assistance,” he said"

i)body was cold (so EMS knew body was long gone and no intervention required);

ii)skin was 'black' (so again, EMS knew body was long gone and no intervention required);

911 was apparently contacted around 7pm on Nov 29th; JC was chatting on the phone to WM in the early hours of Nov 29th, up until around 3am; so what does all of that indicate about time of death?? From 3am phonecall ending, to 7pm 911 call made, is around 16 hours; how many hours does it take for a body to become 'cold' and 'black'?

What does that imply as far as DM's whereabouts during which hours? Did he arrive home during the wee hours of November 29th, kill his dad, and then go out for the day/evening (to Smich's?), to return later in the evening on the same day (29th)? It will be interesting to hear MM's apparent testimony regarding this!

For the body to already be 'dark' and 'cold', wouldn't that kind of lend credence to JC's claim that she heard DM arrive home during her phonecall with WM which ended around 3am? Too bad it was disallowed. It will be interesting to hear the ME's autopsy findings in regard to TOD.

I had always thought that Mark Smich had also been living at the home with his gilfriend MM, at the time of WM's death?

The paramedics couldn't look around the area and see a gun on the floor beside the bed?

How could they have perceived this as a natural death of an alcoholic other than by what the family members were saying? Did they see any excessive empty bottles lying around the room?
Very odd for sure. Wouldn't you think the wound to the eye would have been obvious?! Unless his head was turned into the pillow and they couldn't see his left eye.
ETA: I should have read all posts before posting as this was already discussed.

Thank you for taking over the tweets, Kamille! I'm back to pick up the afternoon as promised. I see that AC is still the only one tweeting today, which IMO is the best one on the case, but I'm missing the other reporters slight variations of interpretation.

Seems DM said on one occasion he hadn't talked to his dad in days and was worried so he thought he should "check" on him and on another occasion that he happened to see his dad the night before.
Seriously, I can't wrap my head around the fact that WM's face is covered in blood and you have paramedics suggesting that his throat had bled out due to his alcoholism. Incredible. Really leads me to believe that DM and MB had really played up WM's drinking- DM even going as far to say he had pain killers as well. DM's lack of emotion contrasted with MB's hysteria is interesting as well- but wow, within a few hours they had the funeral home picked out.

So if I get this right, DM went to check on WM and finds him covered in blood and obviously not a good colour, so he calls his mom to come over asap. (Question 1) how long did it take his mom to get there?) Then, a hysterical "male" calls 911 and paramedics arrive on the scene shortly. Then a hysterical "woman" calls the police to report so
I'm seeing 'tunnel' vision here with respect to first responders (police, EMS & coroner). So what if WM had a drinking problem - that's no excuse for not doing a thorough investigation.

Kind of similar to the LB was an escort narrative. MOO

To be fair people respond to shock and grief in many manners. I've never been at a murder or suicide scene but I know with hospice/hospitals and sudden deaths you are pressured to tell them where the body is going immediately.

Wasn't it MB who made the 911 call?

Nimmo says there was a "strong smell of marijuana" in the basement, in a garbage bag. There was also a small yellow toolbox down there that was locked, he says. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 2m2 minutes ago
You may recall that the murder weapon in the Bosma murder was housed in a yellow toolbox. The officers could pry it open a little, and there appeared to be some loose pot and tobacco inside. #Millard

By this point, Nimmo says, the coroner had not put a label on the death -- either suspicious or not suspicious. #Millard

Hopefully *this* body was going straight to be autopsied!

Eventually, Burns and Millard left the house to go give statements, he says. #Millard

The Crown again asks if Nimmo had any belief or suspicion about how Millard died at this point. He still says no. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 50s51 seconds ago
"In your view, did you have grounds to charge Mr. Dellen Millard with anything?" Lockhart asks. "No," Nimmo responds. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 1m1 minute ago
Nimmo says at no point on that night did Millard seem impaired in any way. The Crown also asks if he threatened Millard, or promised him anything in exchange for information. Nimmo says no to both. #Millard

From my understanding so far, DM claimed that he spent the night of November 28/29th at MS's Oakville home. I believe we are going to hear testimony from MM and possibly MS that he left the home for some time during that night under "peculiar circumstances". His cell phone records allegedly show him calling a cab and the pings led to Maple Gate. We don't know yet what time of the early morning on November 29th this likely was. JC was speaking to WM on the phone until about 3:30am on November 29th. At some point she claimed that she believed DM returned home during this phone call. That evidence has been suppressed. She also believed that WM would have been sitting up in his office talking to her. I'm not sure what gave her that impression.

WM was found, in bed, lying on his side. There was a bowl beside the bed that indicated he may have been eating something. So either he was doing this while talking to JC in bed, or he may have gotten himself something to eat and taken it to the bedroom before retiring for the night. This would have been sometime after 3:30am. At some point, DM allegedly shot his father in the bed. Considering the position, it does seem as though WM may have been asleep at the time. DM supposedly left the home after the alleged murder, we don't know where he went yet, and returned again sometime around 6pm to "discover" WM's body. So he was shot sometime between 3:30am and 6pm on November 29th.

Another oddity is that DM claimed that he only stayed with his father 3 or 4 times a week. I believe the only other place he had at that time was the Riverside property (and the barn). I also remember that his driver's licence stated that Riverside was his home address. I wonder why and when he did that? Did he actually live at Riverside part of the week? I recall that he was renovating an apt for him and CN there at the time of the Bosma murder but did he stay there 3 times a week at the time of WM's death? And why would he randomly have stayed at MS's home that night? MS and MM had moved back to Oakville at that time after having stayed a good part of the summer at Maple Gate.

Nimmo says he never searched Millard. "I had no grounds to believe he had committed an offence at this point in time ... at that point he was still a witness." #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 2m2 minutes ago
The Crown now asking about "investigative detention." Nimmo says that's when you detain a person for investigative reasons, when there's grounds to think they're involved with an offence. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 2m2 minutes ago
"Did you do any of that with Mr. Dellen Millard?" Lockhart asked. "No," Nimmo says. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 1m1 minute ago
Nimmo says he never suspected Millard of any wrongdoing at the time, and he had no grounds to arrest him for anything. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 31s32 seconds ago
Crown asking if police restricted Millard's movement at Maple Gate. Nimmo says no, he didn't. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 1m1 minute ago
Lockhart asks if anyone else was at the scene aside from first responders, Millard and Burns. He says no. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 40s40 seconds ago
The Crown is done. Pillay is now cross-examining the officer. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 45s45 seconds ago
Pillay says as this happened five years ago, the officer is "relying heavily" on his notes. Nimmo says he's using them to refresh his memory. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 2m2 minutes ago
Nimmo agrees that some of his notes aren't in his notebook sequentially. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 14s14 seconds ago
Pillay says there's a notebook entry in Nimmo's note that says there are handguns registered to the residence. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 3m3 minutes ago
Pillay is pointing out that it's tough to say when each event took place from his notebook, or how long they took. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC now
"Fair to say your notes are not a complete account of your interactions with Mr. Millard?" Pillay asks. Nimmo no, they're not a complete record, but what he saw as important. #Millard

The tweets are pretty spaced apart at this point, so forgive me if I wait a few minutes and post several at once.

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 24s24 seconds ago
"It appeared from your initial arrival on the scene that this was a medical event, correct?" Pillay asks. Nimmo says that's the information he got from paramedics, but he didn't "take that as gospel." #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 41s42 seconds ago
Nimmo says that when he first got there, Millard's body was covered with an orange paramedic's blanket. A paramedic then pulled down that blanket to reveal the body. #Millard

Adam Carter‏Verified account @AdamCarterCBC 55s55 seconds ago
There was a notation in Nimmo's notebook that said "nothing appeals suspicious," Pillay says. Nimmo says yes, at that specific time. #Millard
