Actually, no it wouldn't be. All the bookstores here have now made nice accommodations for you to sit and read if you choose. There are chairs at the ends of the aisles, some with ottomans, there is the coffee shop area where reading is encouraged, they even let you read the magazines while having coffee and whatever snack! I wouldn't as it could soil the magazine, but it is the new bookstore way. I was told the theory is if you are comfortable and are reading one book, you are more likely to buy the other books you had on the list.
Every time I go I see at least a dozen people enjoying a book in this manner, then putting it back on the shelf, all with the bookstore's approval. I suspect the not yet written book in mind would only take around 5 to 10 minutes of time, so you could even stand.
And don't forget, if one really wants to read any book, the library is always free. You can go there to read it, or check it out.
