GUILTY WI - Alexander Woodworth, 24, stabbed 16 times by Ezra McCandless, Eau Claire, Mar 2018

I was just watching a rebroadcast of today's discussion with the judge after the jury had left and noticed a woman in the gallery wearing a green scarf--she had short, pale blonde hair and appeared to be weeping. I wonder if she is a relative of the victim?

I just wish EM had been asked why she laid down in the back seat. It makes zero sense if she was as scared as she says she was. My guess is the jury will come back with a lesser included. I just don’t think the State proved 1st degree intentional. They could have... but just didn’t.

Exactly! It is also absurd to say that he asked for help going to the bathroom--anyone who had just been savagely stabbed 16 times is going to wet/soil themselves rather than ask for help doing their business in a more delicate way. He obviously got back in the car to search for his phone that she took from him and bled out. She left him to die. Its clear and it shows no regard for life. .

I guess he might have wrapped the scarf around his neck to try to stop the bleeding.

We all have a lot of questions still unanswered. Some of them the jury knows more about than us because Court TV did not show on air all the testimony because of commercials and because of bleeping out foul language, phone numbers, and graphic death images. So I am hoping that maybe the attorneys will include answers to our questions in their closing arguments, but if not then I am hoping that the jurors have been better informed during the trial than we viewers have been.

Hello Websleuths! I just joined, but I have been watching the entire trial daily on CourtTV online streaming. I have been searching today for answers to several questions my husband and I have about things in the trial.

1. My husband asks, How the heck did Alex read aloud from a Kierkegaard book while having sex with the defendant?

2. What did Jason photograph and send to Ezra that was written on the Racy’s bathroom wall?

3. Was the cutting of “Boy” on Ezra’s arm deep enough to leave a permanent scar?

4. Are we sure it was “Boy” that was cut there? The “ y “ letter especially is rather illegible to me.

5. Do we know if she had previous scars on that arm from the cutting she said she sometimes did to relieve stress? I don’t know anything about cutting. Does it usually leave scars or not?

6. Same with Alex’s arms. Were there old signs of cutting on his dead body? Was there a scar from his injury that Jason had cleaned and bandaged?
As for #1, that made me laugh when I heard it

She's losing it--glaring at the camera for extended periods

In all fairness. . . she is looking at the judge. There is a camera next to the judge. When others seated near her look in the direction of the judge when he is speaking, it appears that they are also glaring at the camera. IMO

I believe I have the answer to why she didn’t show the police her drivers license when she came outside Alex’s house. Her dad testified that the reason he forbid her from driving her own car and hid her keys was that Ezra had let her car insurance lapse through non payment. Therefore, she was driving illegally when she went to Alex’s house. In Wisconsin, it is illegal to drive without current insurance. Quote here from Wisconsin DMV:

“In the state of Wisconsin, it is illegal to drive any motor vehicle without proof of insurance or financial responsibility. ... The penalties for driving without car insurance in Wisconsin include: suspension of driving privileges, fines of up to $500 and getting your vehicle towed.”

Happy Fri-yay! No matter what the outcome today, i appreciate all of you and your thoughtful commentary throughout. I definitely look forward to discussing the close and verdict with y’all. Just turned on the close, Where was this prosecutor’s emotion during EMs cross?!?! He’s stepping it up today.

I appreciate the discussion as well! I'm moderately optimistic about the prosecution this morning -- he's finally putting 2+2 together and isn't confused about the answer.
