Your brain isn't fully developed until you're 25 so that's what I kind of personally consider an adult. Just my two cents. But no matter which way you look at this, you're old enough at 19 to know killing people is wrong. I wonder what evidence they have in this case. I'm sure a lot of text messages between the daughter and the boyfriend.
Just the same if you don't know right from wrong at 19 years old something is extremely wrong!

Unlike Sanford, I don't think that Larrue is a cold blooded killer. His sister's murder probably made hime very angry and frightened, and he pursued the wrong path to cope/protect himself.

Though I have no idea how the murder of Larrue's sister probably did, or did not effect him, he is two years younger than 'S'. Likewise, it was 'S' who approached Larrue with the criminal plan.

My guess is that statistically, his younger age and not having conceived the criminal plan would make it very unlikely that Larrue took lead role and escalated the crime to kidnapping and double homicide on his own accord.

One indicator that Larrue possibly took lead role might be demonstrated leadership ability backed by higher "street creds". This, however, does not seem to be the case.

Mother of Suspect in Murders of Wisc. Doc and Husband in College Arboretum: ‘This is a Nightmare’

from People Magazine dated August 05, 2020 09:59 AM

"Alice Larrue couldn’t help but grow emotional when she learned that her former physician, Dr. Beth Potter, and her husband, Robin Carre, had been found murdered on March 31.

“She was always very supportive,” Larrue, 40, tells PEOPLE. “She had good energy. She was always smiling. She was a beautiful person. I was really hurt about it.”

Larrue’s grief turned to horror when she learned her son, Ali’jah Larrue, 18, along with his friend Khari Sanford, also 18, had been named as suspects in the couple's slayings.

“This is a nightmare,” Larrue says in the new issue of PEOPLE.

On the frigid morning of March 31, joggers found the bodies of the couple in a ditch outside the in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum.

Police believe they were shot in the back of the head at point-blank range after they were in the ditch."

"Alice Larrue says she believes her son was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“I know the type of kid he is,” she says. “People always say he is an old soul,” she says. “He loves his family. He loves his siblings. He is the joker of the family.”

She says she “freaked out” when she heard her son was allegedly involved in the double homicide.

“This is not his character. I know deep down my son wouldn’t do anything like that."

I wonder if Larrue's attorney will offer to plea bargain in exchange for testifying against Sanford?

Though Madison is a very progressive city, the level of community outrage suggests that a "troubled youth" or "victim of society" type defense will probably not work towards an acquittal in regards to a double murder. Likewise, it appears that if convicted of First degree murder, Larrue is looking at either LWOP, or, if given a parole possibility, a minimum of twenty years.

If I was his attorney, I would immediately offer to plead guilty to two counts of armed robbery in exchange for full and enthusiastic testimony against Sanford.

Armed robbery could even reflect his actual role. Larrue is younger and did not conceive of the crime. In the absence of other indicators, he seems to be more of a follower. My guess is that he agreed to participate in a poorly defined armed shake down for the expected bands of cash and maybe a few mandatory bling items.

Larrue then followed Sanford's lead to double homicide when the fabled "bands of cash" and conspicuous bling were not there and Sanford's gang'sta fantasies told him that eliminating the witnesses would enable him to move to the next party- just like in the videos.

Both charged equally! I feel so sad for Alice Larrue (among others):( - why oh why do people do these things?

So the daughter was completely cleared of all charges? Initially it looked like she could be an accessory of conspirator.

Sometimes when I check threads I'm following of murder cases here, I fleetingly feel like maybe the victims are somehow alive again. Then I read the updates and am faced with the grim reality of the permanence of death. This case in particular really hits me hard.

I don't think she has been "cleared" as in affirmed to be innocent. Rather, she may of been "cleared" in the sense that the evidence currently available is not sufficient for a successful prosecution.

Like you, I am disappointed that the daughter has not been charged. My very general understanding, however, is that simply lying to the police rarely leads to charges.

Rather, Accessory Before / After the Fact type charges may need to demonstrate that the person aided the perpetrator in a direct way. For example, helped to conceal evidence, helped to destroy evidence, directly affirmed a pre-planned crime, or helped to plan the crime.

There are lesser charges such as Obstruction of Justice that may deal with lying to investigators, but even this charge does not seem to be used that often.

About 24, I'd say.

It is true that the second wave of "pruning" (neuronal rearrangement) starts in late puberty and is finished by 19. Several things might be related to it:

- people with autistic traits may lose some of them and become more social by 19
- schizophrenia emerging around this age, 19, can also be explained, as one of the views explains it by "overpruning"
- most studies have shown that if people thinking of school shooting haven't contemplated it by 24, their risk measurably drops afterwards. No one knows why, but it just drops. I think maybe it has to do with neuronal rearrangement. In unscientific terms, people "grow out" of it. (JMO - gathered by a private conversation with a neuropsychologist and subsequent reading articles related to neurotrophic growth factor).

But murder is different. Murder has to do with some lack of morality more than impulsivity.

My psych & Human Development degrees are decades old, but trauma, pregnancy, use of alcohol or drugs early tends to slow (and even stop) maturation & brain development.

Yes, good support after such events can help such persons have healthy outcomes

Of course we are unable to determine if any of these factors are present or impactful in this situation.

Wonder if Mr. Larrue's attorney is aware....
