This case is the reason I joined WS. I predicted from the beginning it would be solved within 6 months and stated that a number of times. Granted, it was Jayme and the brave little girl she is that solved this however I support and always have supported the sheriff in all the time, energy and resources they put into this. Granted the answer ended up being something even he did not expect. The only thing that I could even consider negative in any light would be the way they all patted each other on the back today however that seems to be the norm with these high profile PCs. But their work will all play a part when they end up going to trial. I admire the sheriff for calling the heavyweights in within an hour. He realized this was out of his league and it would be in the best interest of solving the case to bring in the people and resources to do the job and do it correctly so there would never be any doubt. There was no tree hugging on his part as I think sometimes those in charge of high profile cases like to think they can do it all themselves and get all the credit. Nope, I admire all that he did and you could tell all the emotion displayed in the PC this has taken a toll on a number of them. The important thing is she was found safe. It will be interesting to see what information becomes public as things now start to open up. Sometimes it is easy to be critical of those in LE doing the heavy lifting while we sit tickling a keyboard. I know I certainly would not have wanted to be in the sheriff's shoes the last 3 months. I can't imagine what he went through. But the bottom line is I supported the sheriff from day one and never lost hope. Welcome back home Jayme!!!

Hi! First post on this page. Have been following this case from day 1 thinking SO much about it. I just woke up (I'm in Sweden) to these news. Made this account because I just had to share that I'm so happy she was found alive! This is such a strange case and the trauma for this girl is so enormous. But it appears she has relatives that truly love her and hopefully with their support and also professional help she will heal. May the perps be put away in jail forever.

Welcome Nordicgirl.:):):)
What a wonderful time for a first post.
Pleased you have joined for this great news.

I think this can be where we run into issues with different people having different definition of things.

For example, I would call it a random crime if the victim does not know the perpetrator. (Doesn't mean that the perp hasn't done research on the victim.)

I know others would say it is only random if both the victim and perp have no idea who each other are.

I've also seen scholarly works stating there is no such thing as random crime, period.

Ah, then yes, we would have very different definitions. I'm in your last category, that there is very little "random" crime.

This could be the "tie" to Barron

Kidnapping suspect Jake Patterson worked with Jayme Closs’ parents for a day

Kidnapping suspect Jake Patterson worked with Jayme Closs’ parents for a day

Jake Patterson

BARRON — The company that employed the slain parents of a Wisconsin teen who was kidnapped says the man accused in the attack worked at the plant for one day nearly three years ago.

Steve Lykken, president of the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Barron, issued a statement Friday saying 21-year-old Jake Patterson was hired one day, but quit the next, explaining that he was moving away from the area.

An obituary for James and Denise Closs says they worked at the turkey processing plant for 27 years.

Lykken says the company and the Hormel Foods family are “overjoyed at the news of Jayme’s safe return.”

Authorities say Jayme escaped from a cabin in the Town of Gordon on Thursday and they arrested Patterson on homicide and kidnapping charges.

I am so surprised that after what Jayme was through that she would have the courage to run out of that house into the woods and speak with and go with a stranger.

I think the fact that the stranger was female and walking a dog may have made her feel it was safe to approach her. She might not have been as comfortable approaching a young man after what she's been through.

I don't understand why so many people are convinced that he had to have known the family or had some contact with them before he killed Jayme's parents and kidnapped her. Joseph Duncan didn't know the Groene family before he killed them and kidnapped Shasta and her brother. Also Jaycee Dugards kidnapper drove 150 miles from his home to find a girl to kidnap.
I posted the very same thing earlier this week. The person likely was passing through town and saw her, followed her to see where she lived and determined it would be safer to kill her parents and take her vs. an abduction during daylight hours. IMO.

Sheriff specifically said 'she left the scene by foot' (starts around 27:54 of the press conference which is on youtube now:
)

I’m having a hard time hearing the last part of the reporters question. So it’s as clear as mud! IMO I think it’s she was asking if any of the vehicles they had been looking for were found at the house and how did she leave the scene. I can’t say which scene the Sheriff is actually referencing too. So it’s not clear it was just my interpretation of the answer.

Is the fact that he worked for a day (why just a day?!) three years ago the only 'connection'....?

If that IS the connection the Sheriff is alluding to then then I think we have to assume that some seed was planted that day......

Really thought Sheriff said in PC that there was no connection to Jennie-O

I wonder if his connection besides working at Jennie-O for one day 3 years ago is - he was a frequent visitor to the house across the street where others were arrested for drugs? I really think this could be the connection and how he saw her and he could watch her house to see who was coming and going for long periods of time. Hopefully we find at 4pm.
JMO MOO and all that.

Arrogant! Yes!

I'm also not buying into the fact that he might have worked out. He looks doughy to me. Keep in mind how tiny Jayme was. Most people are going to appear "big" to her.
I didn't think he looked doughy his shoulders seem broad but maybe he is. I would think he would have prepared himself for this which means physically too. I liked what someone said, that he may lived in Barron for awhile since he had a job there.

Sheriff stated there was no connection to Jenni0O - correct?

Sure hope we hear what the Barron connection is....I am going to speculate and say the casino...second guess: hospital

But if so...not why LE checked with casino, as they had no idea about this guy. Maybe that casino is a place where everyone ends up sooner or later and often on video...who knows.
