I totally agree. But let's say a disturbed individual as a young teen (an impressionable age) lives with an older sib who behaves badly in a sexual way. I think that example would be a factor, though not a "cause," in what the younger sib might grow into.

I do think the teen years, especially tween and early teens, are a time of great impression. Imo, knowing what he experienced in those years will help understand (but certainly not excuse) what happened last October in Barron.

He didn't live in a vacuum.....there were influences in his life and I think, from what we have glimpses of at this moment, his older brother was an influence.

Influence, not a cause, I repeat.

jmo

My guess is the parents were JTP's biggest influence.

I don’t know about the legalities, but I was reading about the Abigail Hernandez case last night. She was kidnapped at 14 while walking home from school and kept in a big storage container on the perps property. It seems Her mother hired attorneys to keep what she endured under wraps. Abby did eventually say in an interview that he used a dog barking shock collar to keep her from screaming. And the charges of rape were public. The details, however, have been kept from the public. The mother did not want her friends to think about her differently.

In that case, the defendant pled guilty. So extensive details didn't come out in a trial. And prior to trial the state was successful in keeping the arrest warrant sealed for months and then when released, heavily redacted, in order to protect the on-going investigation.

If this case goes to trial the details are going to come out. If it doesn't, hopefully the only details that will come out will be those JC wants released.

At first, it was the two brothers living there after the remaining parent moved out, and the brother is older. At some point that I don't know, the brother seems to have moved to CO and JTP was there alone.
Given the older brother's long laundry list of past arrests in convictions in one of the articles, I'm surprised the parents would have left those two boys alone on their own at that age.
I'm also having a hard time believing this was his first violent act. I wonder if there were other missing girls in the area over the past couple of years that he's been living in that house alone.

Just a general observation from me, sparked by conflicting/different information from various neighbours interviewed about JP & the property where JC was kept:

We’re starting to run across a really annoying media trait which I’ve seen in other cases. Instead of new articles with each piece of new information, they edit and update earlier ones and original information/interviews disappear.

Current example: very early reports quoted A Neighbour (I recall it being one of the people involved in the rescue) who mentioned “comings and goings” at the property, but no time frame was specified (I.e. we don’t know whether this was during JC’s captivity, or just a general observation). I’m still searching for the link, with no joy.

Then there’s Another (different) Neighbour quoted, link still available https://www.google.ca/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/2547549002
saying they didn’t know anyone was living at the property.

This likely doesn’t matter to the vast majority of people, but it’s really frustrating for people like WSers who like detail, facts, sources.

I am one who has been bugging folks for a source on when these comings and goings were...

Still do not know how the perp was supporting himself ?
Money from his mom ?
Had he applied for food stamps and an SSI check ?

And if he was unemployed... was it his own car or a borrowed one ?

If he'd been stalking the Closs family ( and Jayme) ...how did he have $$ to cruise around, much less 70+ miles form his residence ?

Who was paying for the car and home owners' insurance ?
The photos of his home hardly look like a "shack"... as described in the first news articles ; iirc.

I’m quoting/bringing forward my own post, because there’s still confusion about JP’s residence and the mortgage, which I perpetuated until @klind55 kindly did due diligence and set me straight.

Patterson father paid off the mortgage. He didn’t give the house back to the bank

"Patterson father paid off the mortgage. He didn’t give the house back to the bank"

OK, thank you. I too did not understand this.

The housing arrangement is less weird to me now.

I think it's a natural inclination to look at where he came from. Family history, his life growing up, what his friends and coworkers (possibly none in this case) say about him, etc. When a second family member is accused of a sexual crime, it's interesting. Whether it plays any role in this crime, I have no clue, but probably not.

Yes. That's my interest. What went on with these brothers?

I mean I understand you can't compare the two crimes at all but it is still revealing to me.

Had she not been missing there would have been no need for her name to be put out there. She would have been afforded that privacy.
If she has endured SA, there should be a way for that part of the charges to be sealed, just because of the fact that she is a minor. MOO

Well.. I see your point. None of us wants to go missing, but I guess it will be up to her as to if or when she ever wants to tell the world her story. I'm reminded of the case of Midsi Sanchez who was kidnapped when she was an 8-year-old child. Just like Jayme, it was Midsi herself who took action and freed herself from her kidnapper, despite the army of LE that was searching for her. Today at the age of 26, Midsi makes multiple tv, and news appearances telling her story. She says it makes her feel better. If you ever watch the show "I Survived," you'll see people from all walks of life that have found healing by sharing horrible things that they became victims of.

Reminds me of Jeffrey Willis and his cousin (Jessica Herringa’s case).

I’m bugging myself about it :(.

I KNOW I read it, because I used it for some early unpublishable (TOS) sleuthing pre-Friday morning press conference. However, the threads are moving so fast I can’t even find my OWN post which might help me find the link.
