They asked for anyone driving along US 8 in either direction between 12:30am and 1:30am. They gave a range.
Right. But why not include the time before they think the crime occurred, is my point. It only seems to include the period after the crime was committed, not before. Unless they are not totally convinced the gunshots occurred at 12:31. Why are they not concerned with anyone who may have seen them on the way to the house? That was my question.

I must have missed this. James was shot more than once? I recall them saying multiple were spent, but that could be only two. I do not recall reading that James was shot multiple times.

One of the officers who found James' body noted that multiple rounds were spent. It doesn't specifically say if that meant multiple bullet wounds to his body or if it meant they found multiple bullet casings on the floor. Could be interpreted either way.

From the dispatch log:

[118 - 10/15/2018 01:05:19] 325 ADVISED ONE MALE DOWN, MULTIPLE ROUNDS SPENT. REQUESTED THAT ADMIN BE NOTIFIED.

My guess would be because they don't know what timeline that falls into.

They had not yet found Denise at the time multiple rounds were reported, so yes (or multiple casings seen).
Unrelated, but just heard old tv report from when they removed the mattress (noticed it was a bare twin mattress). Said they removed “nightstands” and boxes as well.

Taking a teen girl suggests a sexual motivation jmo...
I’m leaning that way myself, but there’s simply no way of knowing for sure, if she was the intended target or not.

There are other plausible reasons why she could have been kidnapped, that don’t include a sexual motive.

Is there anything in the public information that causes this to lean towards predatory abduction vs. Angry local? TIA
Nothing except the lack of an obvious motive. They were good, hardworking, quiet people. Nothing in their financials stand out, no previous arrest records or run ins. And the main part, Jayme was taken. Not shot in the home with the rest of her family, but taken. MOO

Not trying to be difficult here, but we don't know that James was shot more than once. He could have been shot at perhaps. Denise could have been shot and got herself somewhere else. James could have shot one of the shots too. We just don't know.

I have lost track of info on the vehicles. Last I saw, I thought both had been cleared. What is the status on vehicles, especially the Challenger?
They are still looking for both vehicles.

Some tips involving those types of vehicles have been cleared, but those cars are still out there.

And more importantly, the drivers! Apparently unaccounted for so far. Since no-one has come forward, it seems likely they may have been involved. Either that or they are people who don't follow the news and have no idea what's going on. Jmo

I am sure the time range is that specific because law enforcement has evidence from their investigation that makes that particular time range and particular road during that time range relevant. I don't believe for one second that it is some arbitrary guess by law enforcement as to what time range they want information from the public about.

I absolutely agree. This is an investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI.

They know what they are doing.

There's no reason to abduct a 13 year old girl unless the purpose of the attack was to take her. She's a living, breathing, evidence-shedding machine. If this was a revenge attack on the family, why wouldn't all 3 family members be killed? If the point was to steal the child to hurt the family or demand ransom, the parents would not have been killed. If this was a murderer with a heart who did not want to hurt a child, he would have worn a mask and left Jayme unharmed.

Stealing a child puts a target on your back second only to acts of international terrorism. There are specialized FBI divisions and regional task forces whose sole purpose is to rescue or recover missing and exploited children. It is a very big jump to go from a run-of-the-mill street criminal to a kidnapper. There's a reason child molesters do not last long in prison - even hardened criminals do not condone hurting innocent children.

What does this mean? I thought it was said that the Challenger was traced to an employee at Jenni-O and he was cleared, but I could have misunderstood.

One specific Challenger seen at Jenny-O was cleared as not being the specific Challenger they are looking for. They are still looking for the right Challenger, the one seen on video from homes and businesses around the time of the crime.

For all we know they were both shot once and the gunshots heard are the only ones there were. We have no evidence that there were more. Jmo

There is also the option that the initial crime and murder of the parents were unrelated and not of a sexual motive, the kidnapping and/or sexual assault of Jayme was a “on the fly” thought of the perp(s).
