This man, though disturbed, has a criminal history of performing other similar acts. There is little doubt that he is disturbed and needs help. However, IMO there's no connection between him and the murders. It is my belief that he has a fetish for the undergarments of teenage girls. He's been caught stealing undergarments in the past. I think this time he learned about the crime, knew a teenage girl had lived in the house, and knew the house was empty because of the area news coverage. He probably thought it was "safe" to go there and rifle through her things. It is not uncommon for crime scenes to be looted or burglarized. In this instance, however, the items that were stolen are just disturbing.

We've all seen plenty of cases where a creep turns out to be nothing more than a creep. Then again, we've also seen plenty of cases where the perpetrator begins with voyeuristic crimes before escalating to kidnapping and/or murder. All I'm saying is that dismissing this guy as a suspect so easily would be very strange. I highly doubt the police have done that, despite what they've told the public
 
Not sure if this has been floated. What if the perp(s) broke the door down after 8:30 phone call, hours before JC came home. Could have been in the house for hours. Then JC comes home and sees the door damaged. The perp exits the back and re-enters the front door right after JC and opens fire. Also, do we know the phone call wasn't from JCs phone. If not, maybe he grabbed the first phone he saw upon entering and called 911.

What? Was he at work? At home watching football? At the casino?

With all the video footage, the sheriff would be know whether or not James was at the casino. My question is why he answered that in the manner in which he did. If it has no bearing on the case, why not just say yes or no? Or just say "no comment"?

I would assume they've reached their decision to make such a statement by doing the legwork behind the crime. If they dismissed him that easily, IMO it's because they had a reason to. Their actions and comments afterwards have shown that they are still looking for leads, even going so far as to look at the crime in North Carolina. Their actions do not show that they are focused on the panty thief.

Im not sure if its been confirmed or not, but in many schools the resource officer is a local police officer or a deputy from the sheriffs dept. If thats the case here it would seem easiest to call that person first before tracking down principal or school staff info in the middle of the night.

Is it just me or does there seem to be A LOT of mystery surrounding James Closs ? We've heard that Denise and Jayme were active in the church...nothing about James' involvement in the church. We've heard glowing comments about Denise and Jayme...not one word about James, apart from comments from a HS friend who said he loved football. We know that Denise and Jayme attended a family party Sunday afternoon...no one seems to know where the heck James was. Was he at work ? We don't know. Apparently not even Denise's family knows for sure where he was. Was he at the casino ? The sheriff doesn't know.

Am I the only one bothered by all the lack of information about one of the murder victims ? It's almost like no one even knows the guy.

I believe the only person who has ever said he was at work was the grandfather. Then they ran a story saying he was at the party just yesterday. That has now been corrected to state he was not at the party. I don't believe the Sheriff has said he was at work, I think that is one of the "I cannot comment" questions.
 
Also...(and I'm treading very carefully here) much of our assumptions about the family being such " normal " people comes from what we have been told about Denise and Jayme. So, is it possible we're missing something when it comes to James ? I'm really starting to lean that way.

Just a gut feeling, so don't ask for a link. ;)

Oh and I don't recall anybody coming forward and confirming that he was at work that day? When DC went to the party, that might have just been the easiest thing to say to the family is that James was at work.

I would guess (and it’s only a guess) that the very first request would be to review anything westbound on Hwy 8 maybe between 1:05am and 1:20am to see if they could get a quick lead on a vehicle fleeing the scene. Unfortunately even a car fleeing the scene West would have many opportunities to turn and not go past the casino at all. But keep in mind, the casino surveillance is a whole different ballgame than security cameras say at a convienience store. Multiple cameras and angles, live trained operators monitoring in real time, LE on site that’s likely in the surveillance room by that time also reviewing. It’s quite an operation really.

These ideas @ James have been popping up in my head today, too...especially after the Sheriff says 'I don't know' as to if he was at the casino...Just seems like he ought to, right?
Then the 'no comment' about being at work....huh?
Seems like this odd lack of concern (on the surface) @ James...hmmm.

Maybe it's simply because he was not as involved in the community. Someone said that Jayme was 'everything' for Denise. And Jayme was involved in plenty of activities....
James seemed like a simple go to work, watch football sort of a guy.

But....there is something interesting with LE's attitude about him...mayhap a little too cavalier....?

I mean, he broke into the house, knew exactly where Jayme's room was located, took clothing (possibly including underwear, depending on your source), and when asked why he took the clothes and whatever other odds and ends answered that he didn't think anyone would miss the object and that he was interested in what size Jayme was/is. Combine that with the fact that he works at the Turkey factory and I think we have to be nuts not to view him as the prime suspect, regardless of what the police say.

But why, then, would they charge him only for the burglary/theft/trespass, you may ask. My guess is that the police felt that, if Jayme were being held somewhere, their best bet at locating her in time to help rested with tracking Jaenke-Annis once he bonded out. Again, maybe he was at work or something when the crime occurred, but he definitely could have been helping someone out by collecting the clothes from the house.

Am I way off base here?

No, many of us suspected him in the beginning. But LE seemed to be familiar with him and his history of stealing girls underwear from vacant homes. They checked his alibi and ruled him out as a suspect very quickly. Maybe he was in somebody else's home trying on underwear that night. Or maybe he was clocked in at work and it was verified by a manager. Imo

Or maybe even in jail...LE has confirmed only his alibi publicly, which is odd imo.
