No telling how many kicks it took. Denise might have woken him. Maybe they stay up watching tv like my husband and I do after the kids go to bed. I lay awake with my phone, lately trying to catch up on this thread.
Okay so a few kicks, Denise is awakened, James goes out to see what the herk is going on. That's a scenario that makes good sense.
Then Denise hears the gunshot, and dials 911. But what about Jayme? Did she wake up and run out to see what was going on? Stumbled out half asleep and unaware of the danger? Thank you!
It does seem that whoever entered that house wanted to insure that Denise and James were out of the way quickly.
Given that people take what they're after, it would seem they were after Jayme.

one parent could have been sleeping on couch. I could see that for a number of reasons. maybe one snored, maybe one liked more covers than the other, who knows. when younger me and spouse went to bed at same time and same place almost always. now either of us might be sleeping wherever in the house or up at anytime, with and without each other at different times.

Could agree with 90 percent... but if Fitzgerald is saying perp only 5 ft in house that’s the length of a person.. he had 4forensics teams .. there fairly certain 1-2 steps ... you can’t get to bathroom .. or other room... I like most of what u said.. just think with splatter etc.. shooter didn’t gopast much in doorway..?
I'm thinking 5 steps (not feet) even still its probably a few more steps than 5 to the bathroom. This is still my theory though but I am keeping an open mind. I don't think it was about drugs or money/casino or somebody mad at one of them. I think someone became infatuated with Jayme and wanted her at all costs. They were homebodies, especially Jim. I think they cared for their daughter well and this is very sad. I hope this is an ending to this for everyone's sake (specially Jayme)

As the search for #JaymeCloss continues we look at the role of forensic science in such a case. Inside @WisDOJ Madison Crime Lab tonight at 10 on @WCCO.

He might have been in the living room and have seen headlights come up the driveway, they would probably shine right in those windows. He stood up and looked out and saw the person/persons get out of the car and walked to the door to answer it. But was met with a violent kicked in door.

It is possible that this person knocked first, possibly unarmed. Maybe James refused to open the door. Maybe the guy gets angry and gets his gun from his car. We just don't know. I think many people are under the impression that this person just came and kicked in the door, but the fact that James was at the door makes me believe that there was at least some sort of exchange first.

It suddenly hit me. What if he kicks the door and James is coming around a sofa on the right side of the house. He is shot and Denise rushes out of the bedroom after trying to dial 911 and is shot falling behind the furniture and not immediately visible. Jayme hears this and runs out of her room in the dark to a figure that looks like her father standing there. That could be how he only came in the entrance and was able to grab her.

I hadn't thought of that scenario. In the dark and confusion she could have walked right in front of the killer.

This family all had to get up early the next morning. I think it's probably a given that they were all in bed by that time. That would be if this was a usual night. However, we have no idea what happened earlier. Did this person come to the house earlier and cause a disturbance, possibly coming back in an enraged state? In a scenario like that, the family might have been agitated and wide awake.

Possible, but I don't think the door had a window. If he saw lights he would likely have looked out the window.

Could see that .. and gravel roads noisey..

The neighbour said the shots were within seconds of each other, so I believe Denise was shot before she called 911.

Yeah, I meant the living room windows. They are wide and unless the car came up the driveway without lights and parked in front of the garage he would have known it was coming. Also, it would have been very difficult for somone to approach the house unseen if JC was looking out the window, I think.

It just makes sense that this person would first try and get someone to open the door for him before kicking it in. Last resort to kick it in.

Also, if he was standing there looking through the living room windows, and was seeing the car come up the driveway and stop, he may have recognized it and if the perp/perps got out and walked up to the house he would have seen if they were carrying rifles or shotguns etc. But, it seems he still walked to the door. Why?

Great point.

I'm guessing the perp used a handgun. moo

I think the cabinet placement is really strange. Has anyone ever seen such a placement right by a front door? And the snowmen right in a walking pathway. Makes no sense.

If James fell, how did he not fall on any of those items? Where would the door fall? In or out of the house?

Wouldn’t the door fall into the house?

Where were the bullet casings? In or outside?

Could LE have moved some of these things?

If the carpet was removed, they would have to move things.

Does anyone know when this door pic was taken in relationship to the carpet being removed?

I saw pictures of carpet removal, but that could have been bedroom carpet

I am picturing a front entry "hall" with a wall a few feet inside the door. Picture being able to take a right or a left to enter the rest of the home. Perhaps behind the wall is the stairwell to go down to the basement? I have no first hand knowledge of this and I am just speculating. JMO and based on past experiences with similar homes.
