We agree to disagree. This is not rage this is not personal. No overkill no torture just shot both parents quickly and took Jayne. I suspect parents if left alive would know who they are and/or no witnesses to see him take Jayme. I think local guy did not want to risk being seen taking her in other words no chance of witnesses the way he decided to do it. Btw which seemed to work out well for perp.
I can't say if you're right or wrong about this, but if the primary objective here was to abscond with Jayme, is committing a violent home invasion and double homicide the only way to accomplish that without witnesses? James and Denise were just collateral damage? And why are we to assume this was a 'local guy' who they would be able to identify? I dunno...

Random thought number 8,734 -

So those 80 or so videos that the FBI collected (including gas/mini marts)? From what Fitzgerald has said about those, there's nothing that would identify who did this, but that it could be valuable for the conviction phase. I can buy that.

But it got me to thinking - with as well planned as this seemed to be, would you not have your vehicle gassed up in advance? Seems like an obvious detail. And somehow I can't picture committing this crime and then walking into a mini mart to get a slushy and some pork rinds...

I think they observed videos from any homeowner or business somewhere on all directions from the Closs home. Once they were able to see any car or cars of interest then I would expect them to look at camera footage of any gas station , casino, dairy farm etc in the area to see if that same car might have been there earlier and maybe get a better view of the car/s and the drivers.
IDK. Nothing about this case makes any sense to me

I think it is local based on the way it was done. I think the getaway was so clean because they didn't go far, I also think either a grave was ready for her or hopefully a bunker or basement and she is still alive. Someone wanted Jayme, this is jmo, the only thing that is simple enough to work and get away. I don't think this was as complicated as some people think. I don't see rage or personal, other than wanting Jayme. Part of why I like this site is you hear different perspectives but I havnt heard one yet that makes me think that this is anything other than wanting Jayme. Jmo

How far from the road is the dairy? Any chance that they have cameras that see the highway?
The Anderson farm is 2000' to the east, and the commercial buildings are 275' back from the highway. Street level view on Google Earth doesn't reveal any cams, but that doesn't mean that none exist. But at night, and with no street lights there, I'm not sure how helpful anything from there would be. Plus, it feels like the wrong direction. Who knows, though. Plus, Andersons doesn't sell pork rinds. :D

On top of that she was likely immediately in trunk or cab of truck...

Perp wouldn’t risk stopping for gas likely at all you’d think straight to garage or property of perp

Do you see street cam possibilities anywhere that you look on google?

Svetlana Laurel, 52, has also been charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment, Seattle PI reports.

The daughter Laurel allegedly shot dead has been identified as 14-year-old Natalie Gulizia.

Laurel was reportedly divorced from her husband, who was recently granted sole custody of their two children.

According to the police report, Laurel was let into her ex-husband’s home in Renton, Washington on Tuesday evening by their 12-year-old son.

According to reports, Laurel told her son she had a Christmas gift for him, but it turned out to be a bag of his old clothes.

She then asked to see his room upstairs and when he entered the room, tied him up with zip-ties.

When Laurel’s ex-husband and daughter Natalie arrived home a few hours later, the mother was holding a Taser which she pointed at her ex-husband.
Laurel allegedly shot her ex-husband with the Taser and then tied him up with zip-ties as well.

She then told her ex-husband she was going to shoot him because he had ruined her life, the police documents allege.

David Leibman from Renton Police said Natalie was gunned down as she was talking to 911 on the phone.

"The 14-year old daughter that was there, tried to call 911 to get some help and during that night the mother found out she was calling 911 and shot her,” Leibman said.

According to the police report, the 911 operator could hear the suspect saying ‘you called 911’ and then something about ‘blow your head off’ followed by what sounded like zip-ties being secured and a loud sound, followed by screaming.

It is alleged Laurel also tried to shoot her husband, but the gun jammed and then the police arrived to arrest her.

Nope. The only one I've ever identified is on the front of the casino. Even the main intersection with traffic lights in Barron doesn't have traffic cams. They aren't really common in rural towns. And most homes outside of town are set back off the highway with lots of trees. There's a big silica plant 2 miles west of the Closs house, but there's no visible cams there, either.

I wonder what the video they got is all about?

My son has some nasty teens that go by his house really fast. He has a cam that reaches into the street. 90 feet. Not sure how far it does go from his house.

The video is at night and all it shows is a vehicle that is not distinguishable because it is going fast. You can tell it is a truck. It is not in color.

But, I saw it months ago before Jayme so I did not examine it. It was interesting because it showed a truck going fast. That is all I got out of it.

Maybe someone on here has cameras and they can examine what a street view is with cars going by.

My son lives in the country so there are no lights but it is a diet road, not a highway

That poor family! I think of how her poor son and daughter's last moments, knowing their Mom is a monster. I think of the poor ex-husband, watching it all happen and not able to do a damn thing to stop it.

A sad and awful case of where a woman is a suspect. For the most part, we think of women as maternal, not doing such an evil act, especially where she carried her children for nine months each. It goes to show that some don't have that maternal love and protection of their own.

May they all rest in peace, and I am glad she was caught.

I have always thought that the perp/perps drove North (where the big search was done) or South on that main North/South road just to the East of the Closs's home( too lazy to look up the Highway #).....MOO

Ok, next: egging the patio door? No evidence of violence there. Dead bodies near the front of the house.

We don't know that.
And we do know that LE seemed to be interested in the patio area.

You want a theory?!! The shots heard by the neighbors were real. And James turned on the front porch light, stepped outside, and yelled in the general direction of the spotlighting deer hunters near his property: "Get the **** outta here or I'll call the cops!!"

Possible. It's called "shining" though.

Fitzgerald says jayme was abducted based on 911 call and evidence at the scene...

Does that not mean she’s heard on tape and walked through mess of evidence...??

Fitzgerald also said releasing 911 tape would lead to more questions... usually agree with him... but how could there possibly be anymore questions then there already is...maybe somebody recognize sounds or voice...

I thought they were using that area to work, because it wasn't directly involved. Could be totally wrong, of course.

BTW, spotlighting is the term most commonly used in my area.

In Wisconsin, it's definitely called shining. It's also only legal if you do NOT have a firearm in your possession or in your vehicle. It should also be noted that Oct. 15 is not in season, not to mention that the Closs property and all the woods surrounding it are private property. In other words, if the shots the Smrekars heard were 'hunters', they were moronic poachers.

Wish we knew what they heard and exactly when. I'm not ready to totally discount their report. IIRC, their first thought was someone frightening away an animal.

Ok. I learned about it when I lived in Central Wisconsin, and at least where I was, it was called shining.
Fwiw, shining is legal in Wisconsin, but not during the overnight hours between Sep 15 through Dec 31, and not any time if you have firearms or a bow in your posession.
If someone was shining, with or without a firearm, on Oct 14 or 15, it was illegal.
