I was responding to the question if someone would need steel toe boots to do it. It's also relevant, I think, that it doesn't take much doing to force a locked door open.
There are variables here we have no way of knowing. Some doors yes, you can kick in (but don’t kick with your toe, steel or otherwise). I’ve personally been involved with breaching a door with a battering ram that would not give, we blasted that one open.

I don’t know that there’s any use speculating exactly how the door was breached as the details aren’t available to us, nor do I think it really matters. We know the door was forcibly breached and the father was killed inside the doorway in such a manner that the first officer to report inferred that that he had answered the door. That’s really all that’s relevant, isn’t it?
As well as the hope that there is a shoe print on the door...

I was just talking to my favorite go-to all around brainiac about this case. I just gave them the bare bones overview, and their immediate response to the "why" was gambling debt. I had *not* told them Jayme's family home was close to a casino, so this gave me goose bumps. Their backup theory was a disgruntled employee.

I find the gambling theory interesting, and wonder if this has any possibility?

Amateur opinion and speculation only
This is just my response due to my limited knowledge and a lot of Law & Order, but dead men can't pay debts. I mean, perhaps the loan shark thought he could sell Jayme into human trafficking, but it seems like a big stretch from making loans to selling a 13-year-old. That's just my opinion. Weirder things have certainly happened before.

<modsnip - remove double quote and snipped portion of quoted post>

I DID however see a girl within a couple years of JC's age on NCMEC that disappeared from Stoughton (2-ish hours away) within five days of this crime... might be worth looking into?

Would this be one he threads @Gardener1850 might have been helping with? I’ve been meaning to follow up on this.

Do you know the MP’s name? Tia.

Stoughton is not 2 hours away from barron it's closer to 4 or 5 hours away, its southern suburb of Madison. But I agree it is strange. I'm from northern Wisconsin (an hour north of Barron) and now live near Madison.

True. However, looking at the timeline of the police getting there, and there being the possibility of a suicide on LE's mind, they want in there ASAP. What if they kicked in the door because they thought there was a suicidal person inside? Just a thought.
From Thread #6 - Clarification on Dispatch Log Reports:

MAN DID NOT ANSWER DOOR FOR POLICE

[snip]
Sheriff Fitzgerald says a 911 call came in around 1A.M. The call came from a cell phone inside the residence but it’s not known who made the call. “We could hear yelling in the background on this 911 call, not much information," said Fitzgerald.
He says the call lasted less than a minute and the only word that can be understood is “help”.

"Deputies arrived at that address a short time after the call ended to find no one around on the outside,” Sheriff Fitzgerald says as deputies approached the house, they saw the front door was open and there was a deceased male in that front door way. Officers later found a deceased female while searching the rest of the home. BBM
[snip]
UPDATE: Sheriff: Missing girl was in home at the time of the murders

ETA: Index post #336 for future reference

That would appear in the call log if that was the case. The door being kicked in, and police kicking the door in, are obviously two very different things.

They wouldn’t make this mistake.
Not saying they made a mistake at all. What a horrible scene for them to have come into. These officers deserve our utmost concern and prayers for what they experienced and continue to experience.
That being said, if I recall, the log also stated that James answered the door, and he couldn't, as he was deceased. Not seeing the crime scene photos and positioning of his body, we have to go by whatever eyewitness accounts we get.
Not trying to argue with you here, just working on getting my facts straight, thanks for working with me on this. :)

Well I don’t know that it would help to solve the case but three things I’d like to know:

1. What evidence do they have that proves she’s in danger (or not involved)?
2. The evidence that proves she was there?
3. What made it a ‘horrific’ crime scene that the responders will have trouble getting over ? (Had to be more than a couple gunshot wounds.)
Good ones!!

Also, I believe the first time a possible suicide was mentioned was when the first responding officer saw a body at the scene and possible suicide was only his first impression.

Yes, lots of contradictory info and LE not willing to talk. I will say that Sheriff Fitzgerald is not very clear or eloquent (no offense to him, but speaking clearly in public is not his forte IMO). Most LE spokespeople choose their words very very carefully. Fitzgerald probably does not have much experience and jumbles messages, (e.g., his response to Q re Jayme being the 100% alive).

Who the heck knows the facts? Certainly not us!

“About 4 minutes after the call, deputies arrived at the house. Dispatch records state that James Closs answered the door. On Friday afternoon, Fitzgerald was asked if that was accurate in the dispatch logs that James Closs had answered the door, he said yes.

After more discussion with Fitzgerald on Saturday morning, Fitzgerald said he was not releasing any information about how the door got opened. He said when the deputies arrived at the house, James was found dead at the door. When asked whether a deputy had kicked in the door, Fitzgerald said he could not comment due to an active investigation.”

^^^^Clear as mud.

Clarification: Chilling details revealed in dispatch record
could Be why it took so long to clear the house and find DC ?
Im way back on page 4 working my way up , sorry if it has already be said.

But it never made sense to me why they would tell the neighbor such important info like that.
i believe LE also actually went through their home (inside not just out) seeing if Jayme could be hiding there, so it was probably relevant to let them know they heard her on the call. The sheriff also told her the clock she looked at was off by 7 minutes...so being witnesses of sorts, i don't think it's all that odd that the sheriff would tell them a little more than the general public. jmo

<modsnip - alluding to more info>I have no evidence these two events are related so I am not sure it would be reasonable to post on this forum. It is just an odd coincidence that the timing, behavior, and proximity match.

As we decide for ourselves if we believe radaronline, I am to question this definitive statement:

“Cops believe Mollie Tibbetts’ abductor attended a vigil for the missing Iowa college student, RadarOnline.com learned exclusively.“

Did this turn out to be the case? I don’t recall hearing this.

There's already 7 threads here and it's understandable to be confused! Welcome to Websleuths, and you can always ask for assistance in the "convos" (also known as private message). Cheers!
Thank you. I was here briefly for Mollies case and really hoped I wouldnt find myself back here. Its good to see familiar names though so Im glad I stopped in. Thank you Seattle!
