"Police poured into Paris' Gare du Nord station late on Monday evening, evacuating passengers from platforms and sealing off the area.

French police said in a single tweet that there was an operation underway at the busy station, which is the terminus of a large suburban and national rail network as well as Eurostar trains from London."

I'm really glad nothing came of it and the election was a safe one. I'm worried about any future planned attacks still though to try and destabilise a new government.

I saw pictures on twitter of the three terrorists that French LE allegedly is looking for.
They still have not found them and the chase continues.

There will be blood in Europe for a long time to come. According to mr Macron, this is part of everyday life and one better gets used to it. I wonder what will happen when reality hits mama's boy.

CONVICTED TERRORIST ARRESTED AT MILITARY AIR BASE

RTL Nieuws
https://www.rtlnieuws.nl/nederland/veroordeelde-terrorist-aangehouden-op-vliegbasis-volkel

A convicted terrorist and supporter of terrorist group IS was arrested last week on Volkel air force base in the Netherlands. The man was working on the air base. He caught the attention when he started to take pictures.

Investigation by RTL News has brought this to light. The detention has been confirmed by the Public Prosecutor and the Department of Defense. The army police immediately arrested him because he had a criminal record.

The 19-year-old man was arrested previously one and a half years ago, in September 2015, at the Turkish Syrian border. He wanted to join a terrorist organization in the war area of Syria , according to the court. He received a penalty of two years detention for this. According to the court, the man became "more amd more extreme in his faith," he is a fan of the "jihadistic mindset" and "advocate of IS".

The man had been free for a few months. He was part of a group of people working for a construction company on the air base. On the basis, strict access requirements are in force. Visitors must identify themselves among other things. Also, a background check should always be done.

Last Wednesday, it caught the attention that he was making photo and video recordings. That is forbidden on the air base. When it came to light that he was a convicted terrorist, he was arrested on suspicion of preparing for terrorism.

After two days he has been released, says the Public Prosecutor, "because the investigation of the army police has not revealed that he has committed or aimed to commit crimes."

Flight base Volkel is one of the two bases of Dutch F16 jet fighters. The Dutch airspace is being defended from here. It is a large complex where about a thousand men work for defense personnel.

It is common knowledge that nuclear weapons are stored there.

FRANCE'S SPECIAL FORCES HUNT FRENCH MILITANTS FIGHTING FOR ISLAMIC STATE

WSJ
https://www.wsj.com/articles/france...litants-fighting-for-islamic-state-1496090116

French special forces have for months enlisted Iraqi soldiers to hunt and kill French nationals who have joined the senior ranks of Islamic State, according to Iraqi officers and current and former French officials.

Iraqi commanders leading the fight for Mosul said French special forces have provided to Iraqi counterterrorism troops the names and photographs of as many as 30 men identified as high-value targets. An undisclosed number of French citizens have been killed by Iraqi artillery and ground forces, the commanders said, using location coordinates and other intelligence supplied by the French.

The motive for the secret operation is to ensure that French nationals with allegiance to Islamic State never return home to threaten France with a terror attack, said a current and a former foreign-affairs adviser to the French government. France has been the target of several deadly attacks either inspired by Islamic State or orchestrated from the militants’ Middle East strongholds, including the November 2015 Paris strikes.

AT LEAST 80 PEOPLE DEAD AND 350 WOUNDED IN MASSIVE KABUL BLAST NEAR BRITISH, US, FRENCH AND GERMAN EMBASSIES

kabulattack.jpg

Daily Mail

At least 80 people -including a BBC driver - are dead and 350 more are injured after a massive bomb concealed in a water tanker ripped through Kabul's diplomatic quarter this morning.

Bodies littered the street and a towering plume of smoke could be seen over the Afghan capital after the truck attack blew out the windows in a number of foreign missions and residences nearby.

Afghan authorities said most of the casualties this morning were civilians and that there were 'many women and children' among the victims.

This morning, it emerged that BBC Afghan driver Mohammed Nazir had been killed in the explosion and that four BBC journalists have been injured. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Employees at the German consulate have also been wounded and an Afghan security guard stationed outside the building was killed in the suicide bomb, which was also close to the British, French and US embassies.

The Afghan Taliban this morning denied responsibility for the attack, which comes just days into the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. No group immediately claimed to have carried out the atrocity, but both the Taliban and ISIS have staged large-scale attacks in Kabul in the past.

EX-GITMO INMATE AMONG 6 DETAINED FROM FRENCH JIHADI NEETWORK

Washington Post
https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...ec59a9bf4b1_story.html?utm_term=.5a9de52c266b

A former Guantanamo Bay inmate is among six people from an alleged jihadi recruiting network linked to the Islamic State group who were detained on Tuesday, a French judicial source said.

Among the suspects arrested was Sabir Mahfouz Lahmar, who was freed from the U.S. detention center in Cuba in 2009 after France agreed to accept him, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the case.

Lahmar was one of six Algerians detained in Bosnia in 2001 on suspicion of plotting to bomb the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo.

GERMAN ROCK FESTIVAL INTERRUPTED DUE TO TERROR THREAT

Welt.de
https://www.welt.de/politik/deutsch...wegen-Terrorgefahr-unterbrochen.html#Comments

The festival "Rock am Ring", attended by tens of thousands of music fans, has been interrupted due to a terror threat.

On Friday night the police had ordered the organizers of the three-day rock festival to ask the visitors to leave the site due to a "terrorist threat", according to the organizers. The responsible police in Koblenz stated in the evening: "The decision is based on concrete indications, which can lead to a possible terrorist threat. Investigations are currently carried out under intense pressure. "

On the festival ground of the Nürburgring, the following announcements were heard through the louspeakers : "The festival will be canceled for today because of a terrorist threat. We hope that it will continue tomorrow. Please go to the exits." "All visitors are asked to leave the festival grounds in a controlled and calm manner towards the exits and campsites."

Rock am Ring was expecting 90.000 visitors.
Is is unclear if the festival will indeed continue tomorrow.

GERMAN ROCK FESTIVAL: ANGRY RANT OF DIRECTOR

Welt.de
https://www.welt.de/vermischtes/art...=socialmedia.socialflow....socialflow_twitter

"I feel horribly empty and exhausted," he [ Marek Lieberberg ] said on Friday night. He said about the police, "I hope that they will deal with us and our fans just as much as with football matches, where they will play again the next day." With this he referred to the attack on the team bus of Borussia Dortmund who competed on the next day in the Champions League.

Communication with the authorities was good according to Lieberberg. "It's the assessment," he said. "Is that the result of our resilient democracy? What will be canceled next? " Whether the three-day festival can be continued on Saturday was initially unclear. "The signal that Germany is sending out today is catastrophic," Lieberberg said.

"I finally want to see demonstrations, that are directed against these violators. I have not seen any Muslims who have gone to the street to tens of thousands and have said what is really going on? And I would like to have something happening in the country that those who pose a public threat are being arrested too. We pay the price for the scandal around Amri, " Lieberberg said furiously.

Probably and hopefully it was all much ado about nothing.
The climate in which this is happening is a toxic mix of the recent attack on the concert of Ariana Grande in Manchester, and the aftermath of the attack on the Christmas market in Berlin, when it became clear that several German authorities repeatedly had let jihadist Anis Amri slip through the net.

THERE IS NO INTELLIGENCE SOLUTION TO BRITAIN'S RIVERS OF BLOOD

After three jihadist attacks in as many months, the United Kingdom is facing a protracted insurgency—not mere terrorism

Observer.com
http://observer.com/2017/06/london-bridge-isis-attack-british-m15/

I have warned about the West’s rising domestic jihadism problem for many years, and little over a year ago I issued a particular caution, noting that something like low-grade guerrilla war had arrived in parts of Europe:

Europe is now at war again. The threat today is less terrorism than a low-grade insurgency, a guerrilla war of sorts, that hangs over much of the continent as thousands of jihadists, made proficient killers by ISIS in Syria and Iraq, return home with visions of killing “infidels,” their former neighbors. There will be no parley or negotiation with such mass murderers. Parsing the death-cult ideology that drives ISIS fighters, with the hope of making it less noxious, makes as much sense as trying to divine the finer political points of the Manson family.

We should expect more guerrilla-like attacks like Brussels yesterday: moderate in scale, relatively easy to plan and execute against soft targets, and utterly terrifying to the public. At some point, angry Europeans, fed up with their supine political class, will begin to strike back, and that’s when the really terrifying scenarios come into play. European security services worry deeply about the next Anders Breivik targeting not fellow Europeans, but Muslim migrants.

TERROR AND THE TEDDY BEAR SOCIETY

Even the arrests after each attack give comfort to the enemy, which can act with impunity even if known.

WSJ
https://www.wsj.com/articles/terror-and-the-teddy-bear-society-1496682229

There have, it is true, been no-hopers among the terrorists, but there have also been medical students and doctors. There was nothing (except himself) impeding the recent Manchester bomber from having a normal or even a highly successful career.

(....)

From all this the terrorists surely draw a great deal of comfort. It gives them the impression of living in a weak society that will be easy to destroy, so that their acts are not in the least nihilistic or pointless, as is often claimed. They perceive ours as a candle-and-teddy-bear society (albeit mysteriously endowed with technological prowess): We kill, you light candles. The other day I passed a teddy-bear shop, that is to say a shop that sold nothing but teddy bears. I am sure that terrorism is good for business, but the teddy bears are more reassuring for the terrorists than for those who buy them to place on the site of the latest outrage.

Another source of comfort for terrorists is that after every new atrocity, the police are able to arrest multiple suspected accomplices. That suggests the police knew the attackers’ identities in advance but did nothing—in other words, that most of the time terrorists can act with impunity even if known. Here, then, is further evidence of a society that will not defend itself seriously. This is not just a British problem. The April murder of a policeman on the Champs Elysées in Paris was committed by a man who had already tried to kill three policemen, who was known to have become fanaticized, and who was found with vicious weapons in his home. The authorities waited patiently until he struck.
