Thank you for doing tweets :tyou: I can’t be here for most of today, so will be checking in often. Much appreciate your help!

We've all waited so long for this trial. Now, it's understandable. Those poor little girls must have been so afraid of their mother. She could have done to them what they did to their sister. I dare say, the memories were probably well pushed back in their traumatized minds.

I hope they and the other children are in a safe place now.

Lewis County Prosecutor Christina Flanigan told jurors Monday that 3-year-old Aliayah Lunsford was struck in the head in September 2011 while she was in time out. She was put to bed injured and was dead in the morning.

Flanigan said Lunsford's mother, Lena Lunsford Conaway, had struck the girl and had refused to get her help, then put the child in a laundry hamper, covered her with clothes, drove her to a remote location in Vadis and left her in the woods.

Lunsford Conaway mortally wounded her daughter by striking her in the head with an object Sept. 24, 2011, law enforcement has alleged. The blow occurred in a rental property in Bendale where they were living, law enforcement has alleged. The girl’s body never has been found.

In opening statements Monday, witnesses Kiara, 11, and Destiny Lunsford, 9, said they saw Lena Lunsford hit Aliayah in the head. Christina Flanigan, the prosecuting attorney, said Kiara and Destiny are not sure what the object was but believe it may have been a wooden slat off of a bed, or a piece of it.

"Lena at some point in time picked up an object," Flanigan told the jury. "She was mad, upset at whatever was going on and she picked up an object and struck Aliayah in the back of the head."

Flanigan told the jury the girl's said Aliayah's head felt "squishy" when they touched it. When the girls tried to wake Aliayah up the next morning, they said she was not breathing and was not responsive. The girls suggested Lena call 911 or get help, but Lena refused, according to Flanigan.

Flanigan said Lena Lunsford put the toddler in a clothes hamper and took her to their family van and eventually drove to a wooded area and disposed the body. Kiara and Destiny kept what happened a secret for five years, the prosecutor said.

She told the court that Lena told her and her older sister to never tell anyone what happened. She says she was with her mother as she put the child’s body in a clothes hamper and load it in a van. She says they then drove to a remote area in Vadis where Lena disposed of the body

I wonder if this girl remembers "where" her mom put Aliayah's body.... I think I would remember if my Mom said don't say anything to anyone.... :dunno:

Testimony from D.C. (Lena’s daughter) who was 9 at the time is now continuing. Defense attorney Tom Dyer is doing cross examination. Before break, D.C. sobbed as Dyer asked her to reenact how she says she witnessed her mother striking Aliayah with the wooden bed slab :crying:

Before break, DC said her mother treated Aliayah differently from her siblings. She suspected it was because Aliayah had a closer relationship with her grandmother. She said Lena would make Aliayah drink saltwater as punishment sometimes.

Leslie Rubin's last tweet says she has been promoted, and her last tweet will be tomorrow. Is there another media tweeter covering the trial?

Thank you to everyone posting tweets today.

I’ve been waiting a long time for this trial to get started. Justice for Aliayah!
