The closest "big" city to Butler, Indiana, is Ft. Wayne. There don't appear to be any relevant missing persons from there. Plus, that locale seems a bit out of character from the other places listed.

A search of the Odyssey court records does reveal other members of the "Falls" family in Dekalb county (where Butler is). It is possible that, to get his gun permit, he used family members' address. Back in 2001, the 4 year permit was standard. (In 2006, IIRC, they passed a law allowing for a lifetime residential permit.) So, it is possible that he did not actually live in Indiana during that time period. Or, he may have briefly lived with a family member in 2000-2001, when he applied.

In fairness, speculation like that is almost a moot point. If we do not know how long NF owned the Subaru, then speculating that he owned something else 2 years ago means that technically he can be linked to any murder in the world, ever, 2 years ago.

A piece of information I would really like to know from LE or somehow is, where was NF staying the night he was murdered? Where was he planning on sleeping? Did he have a hotel room in Charleston? Did he just leave from another city in another state and arrive in Charleston that night? If he was in a hotel in Charleston, how long was he there for and how long did he have his room reservation for?


Also, one thing to note here: Although the things he had in his vehicle suggest that he has murdered before, it is entirely possible that this could have been his very first murder. Personally, I don't think it was, but from an investigators standpoint, you have to keep that in mind, as well. He could have just done a lot of research on what he needs to murder, dismember, and get away with.

And there are casinos in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

And since Neal Falls had lived in Butler, Indiana, he could possibly be connected with the disappearances of women in Michigan and also along the Ohio River Valley in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia.

Great catch on the casino angle connection, nerosleuth! I wonder if he was working as a security guard at any of these casinos in IN, OH or MI, hmmm.
I'd wondered why he would attack the victim (who killed him) at 3:30 in the afternoon. He allegedly worked the night shift at Hoover Dam so I wonder if he was currently working the night shift in a casino nearby. And where was he staying? I'd also like to know his ht. and wt. The POI in JH's case described him as heavyset. It sure would help to have more information on him so we could rule him in or out.
I need some addtitional what, where, how, when.

Anyway, it was 3 pm, not 3:30 when he was shot and killed. It just seems an odd time to me for a hook up.

But they are a small percentage. Most of them have a MO or a similar type or victim, some consistency in their actions IYKWIM

ETA he was at her home, I'm wondering, wasn't he worried about DNA? This is weird. By the contents of the car I think he was taking her body immediately to dispose of it but still, his DNA would still be at least in the door or something?

I've been following this story since last week; it's absolutely terrifying what was found in his vehicle. I hate to say it, but hopefully this is the beginning to the start of some answers or prompts new interest for some of our missing.

That was my first thought when I read the news today. My second thought is, "Thank goodness you're safe...but now get another job."

Just thinking out loud, if he had owned multiple vehicles he might choose similar style vehicle: small enough to control victim in close quarters in the front seat, big enough to carry all those tools and a ...body for a short period of time. The similar "type" of vehicle, even while differing models over the years, may be a "preference" authorities might be able to trend.
 
Here's a rough map of the places associated with Falls. I started out trying to put them in chronological order to get an idea of the back and forth, but quite a number of them don't have dates, and many of them are quite close together in Oregon. The route isn't anything specific, just to indicate possible connections.

It looks to me like the Colorado-Kansas area is another that we should look at -- he must have been through there quite often.

Updated: using only a couple of the Oregon addresses and added the locations where the bodies of the Las Vegas women were found. I also added "Texas" where he got the traffic ticket.

I wonder if he's been to Boston recently. We've had a number of dismembered bodies around the region the last couple of years.
 
Lt. Steve Cooper and Ms. Akers ARE on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon discussing the case. Will need to get the transcripts. It was interesting. Now talking about Oregon connections & comparing him to Ted Bundy.

I am not judging her, But I agree with the other post ---she needs to find a safer job. She came within an inch of her life.

Surely there is a better, more fulfilling and healthier way to make a living than to meet a stranger in his motel room and sexually gratify him in any way he demands.
 
I don't think she'll need to go back to this job because of the publicity. Anyway, I'll admit I'm biased because we enacted the Swedish Model here in Canada last year.

Yes, that sounds like a more humane and refined model than the West Virginia 'Back Page' method.
