No problem, of course. I hope the death of NMF will result in closure for families who have suffered terrible tragedies.
But, I feel compelled to point out that the desired result may not come to fruition. DNA, for instance, seems like a remote possibility of a match. Think of it this way - let's assume DNA is available in most of these missing person cases. If they already had DNA that matched across cases, even if the donor were unknown, they could still say that the cases were linked. That way, finding a single donor could connect several cases.
Yet, that does not appear to be the case. So, either the cases do not have donor DNA, or there is donor DNA, but not from a single donor. Even if NMF's DNA matches 1 or 2 cases, it seems unlikely that it would match very many. Otherwise, they'd already be saying those cases are all linked.
(I feel like I'm not expressing that thought as clearly as I'm thinking it. Apologies if that's confusing.)
If that's the situation, it may be a matter of linking cases by an MO that is ubiquitous. If that's the case, then some cases will be attributed to NMF that probably shouldn't, or families never get closure and just have another cause to wonder. Either way, that sucks.
Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.
(Apologies to any Debbies in the crowd.)
