  • The last text message sent from her cell phone suggests she'd made it to Yosemite National Park in northern California – about 800 miles away
  • 'No service in Yosemite,' reads the curious text from Petito's cell phone, sent August 30 to her mother Nichole Schmidt, DailyMail.com can reveal
  • Schmidt has expressed skepticism that Gabby was the one who sent the text
  • 'That text was NOT from Gabby I know it!' Schmidt told DaiyMail.com
  • She believes Petito's boyfriend Brian may have sent the message from her phone to mislead the family

To be fair, a lot of people mix Yosemite and Yellowstone up in conversation bc they're both big national parks out West that start with Y. I've definitely made that verbal slip before.

MOO

If he did leave her there why not just say that? Why would you want and encourage all of this speculation about your involvement?

Honestly, I'm just as disappointed in his parents' silence as I am his. What could he have possibly told them that would justify their lack of cooperation?

The "incident" is not good. Saying there wasn't enough evidence for criminal charges which just tells me it was definitely domestic. Someone saw something, called the cops, and when they arrived both he and Gabby did not confirm that anything violent happened. Therefore, the cops didn't have enough proof for an arrest.

I'm just flabbergasted that this guy just drove back to Florida and didn't relate a thing after being home the 10 days. Did he expect the whole thing would just go away? Seriously, Gabby is a human being, she has a family, she was his fiancé.
Not even a story about them parting ways, accident or whatever. Just makes him look more guilty imo.
What did he tell his parents?

Gabby Petito Search: Parents Say Boyfriend Brian Laundrie's 'Silence Is Reprehensible'; Police In Utah Confirm Responding To Incident Involving Petito, Laundrie
https://newyork.cbslocal.com/2021/09/15/gabby-petito-search-utah-incident/

Petito’s family issued a new statement Wednesday, calling on Laundrie to speak out about what he knows about her disappearance:

Every day the search for Gabby continues the Schmidt and Petito family becomes more desperate. They are frantically searching for answers and information in their daughter’s disappearance while Brian sits in the comfort of his home.

Brian claims he wants to sit in the background while we search for Gabby in the wilderness of the Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks.

Brian left Gabby in the wilderness with grizzly bears and wolves while he sits in the comfort of his home. In his home!

Brian, how could you do this to Gabby? You selfishly remain silent while Gabby is all alone in the wilderness.

Brian, your silence is reprehensible! We beg you to do the right thing and help us bring Gabby home.

Brian, whatever happened in Wyoming, happened. The only thing you can control is what you do now. Tell us where Gabby is.

I kind of wonder if someone would make that slip up if they were actively in the park though? This leads me to think that not only did he send the text and mix up the names, but they probably didn’t go to Yellowstone at all.

She's also questioning Brian's trip back to Florida in August to help his father move their belongings out of a storage unit.

Brian left Gabby in the Fairfield Inn in Salt Lake City and flew back home to Florida from August 17 to the 23 to help his father empty out a storage unit where he and Gabby had their things.

According to Schmidt, Brian's father offered to let them keep their belongings at his house so they wouldn't have to pay for the storage unit.

He left Gabby at the hotel so she, understandably, wouldn't be alone in the van. Brian then flew back to Utah and they left the hotel together on August 24.

Schmidt now wonders why it was necessary to move Gabby's things during their road trip and what became of her stuff.

'Where are her things?' she asked.

I suspect that mom and pop Laundrie didn't realize Gabby was actually missing until they were texted by Gabby's mother.
I'm not sure I agree because why wouldn't the mom answer the very first text or phone call from Gabby's mom if nothing was wrong that she was aware of? I think he called his parents and they told him to drive home - I'm wondering if one of them flew out there to assist him in the drive home? that van is awfully clean .....

I call Yellowstone "Yosemite" all the time, but I figured it's because I live in California. They do sound alike except for the "mitty" part.

I think the most likely reason he drove it back to his parents is because he could afford to do that and he's not very bright. He was panicking and needed to be home, needed his parents at his side, so that's what he did.

It also allowed him to disassociate to a great degree from the crime. As if he was just on a solo road trip.

Did he have the funds to get a plane ticket? Wouldn't abandoning the van in WY or anyplace else have been equally suspicious? Notice that the way he did it, you are able to come up with a plausible scenario the exculpates him (she went off on her own). If the van had been abandoned, no matter where it was, it would have set off a nearby search effort when discovered.

How does it not look WAY more suspicious if, immediately after Gabby is last heard from, her BF abandons the van and flees?

Do you think there was something in the band he needed to dispose of? Like a body? If so, choosing to drive cross country (and then lawyering up) is a good way for a murderer to cover their tracks.

Anyone remember any other cross-country murder cases like this one??

(And I do believe there's foul play here; so if it turns out not to be a murder, it's still a really bizarre case).

BBM. This is what I was thinking as well. How he came home and immediately hid in his parents' house and wouldn't reach out to her parents to me says he did something wrong/bad and won't tell them. Very childish. Honestly who else would everyone be looking at it if not him?

I don't think they are related at all. The two murdered women were residing in an obscure campground frequented pretty much by locals and not buy tourists.

I disagree. This is exactly where people go to find free places to camp where open camping is allowed. They look for spots on Forest Service roads, BLM roads. or elsewhere where they are able to camp for free. This is the type of place where I would expect to find them, not in a developed campground.

I'm suspecting a bit of "Frazee- as in I didn't know the whole country would care about Kelsey" -if he follows any true crime He may have thought her missing would go unnoticed - except for her parents. That's the part I don't understand - did he severely underestimate their apparent close relationship? or is he just so self centered it didn't occur to him that this would become a big story?

Where is he? more importantly - where did he leave Gabby???

This case has brought me out of my self-imposed WS vacation. Equally sad, intriguing and frustrating. Especially the driving back home and hiding in parents house for 10 days and get a lawyer.

Notice the Ford Logo on the front grill is not in the correct spot in the photo above. The logo is in the correct spot in their YouTube video. It might not mean anything, but maybe?

Just an FYI, this era of Fords at least Transit Connects/Focus in NA use the ignition key to open the bonnet/hood behind the rotatable Ford badge rather than a lever in the interior.
