If it was BL (and I think that is a big "if"), maybe Gabby was the navigator. :(

Or maybe he's used to using a phone to navigate and to be able to tell Google maps to "avoid highways"? He might not have a phone, or might have it turned off so it wouldn't show up.

I do hope it was indeed BL and not a hoaxer or some weird confused guy.

JMO
All he would need to do is buy a gps and plug it in.

I was just watching the tiktok, I am in no means an expert on it, but the 4th from the last video, Brian rescues a water bottle out of the creek, but it appears that he them throws it to the side, after the “rescue”. I know some people are very passionate about not using water bottles and plastic, which it would appear to be him in Moab, and I completely respect that, but why would you remove it from the creek and throw it to the side? I watched it several times, it just looks to me like he retrieved it from the creek and then chucked it onto the path.
Because that is a fake persona. Virtual signaling. Jmo

I didn't realise he was on the most wanted list, but there Gabby's name is at #12.

(Though, technically, BL's name is not included ... it is more of a request for information, which includes her unnamed boyfriend.)

Wanted Collection | Federal Bureau of Investigation

Yes, the Gabby Petito case is listed, but BL is the only person the FBI are looking for and they've spent a fortune doing it.

My son is 33. Over the past 3 or 4 years he has dated three women in their late 20s/30s and all three of them have been into crime/murders, etc. And he's into those types of shows as well. Not his mother! I cover my eyes for fictional scary stuff.

My husband thinks it's more than odd that so many women are fascinated by true crime. He really doesn't like me following murder cases and thinks I have a problem. :D

<modsnip>

I will say that I don't believe BL is hiking the Appalachian trail where people brush past each other on narrow paths and everyone looks into each other's eyes in case they might be alone in the wilderness with a psycho.
I think the choice of the Carlton reserve was significant though, to instill the idea that a) he might kill himself there out of despair, and b) that in doing so his body would almost certainly never be found. That might deflect the pursuit sufficient to give him time to come up with a plan. Therefore I doubt he ever went into the Carlton reserve.

I think he was giving himself a bit of time to see his family one last time and sort out some of his affairs before disappearing/killing himself, though if the latter, one might suppose he would do so in the comfort of his home rather than in a pestilential bog. Everything has certainly gone very wrong for him and as I suspect he is/was a perfectionist I'm sure that situation is/was causing him agony. The life-force will drain eventually, and I would be quite surprised if he hasn't already killed himself, and if he has, then I suspect he would be clever enough to ensure that his body would never be found, thereby leaving a legacy of mystery for ever, which would be an appealing option to anyone who has absolutely nothing left to live for.

TAT not generating for me Edit saw it another map. Not google maps though (I was trying to search between TAT and Waterville Rd.)
Here's a video of some motorbike riders at night on the TAT between Andrews, NC, and Tellico Plains, TN. Even with GPS they aren't sure where they are. Very lonely road.

Interesting scenarios. In at least two of these options, there would be another person along with Mr. Davis, so if that’s the case I’d like to hear from the potential other witness.
Actually there are 2 other methods for having a car while hiking.
5. One car. You have a buddy. You drop buddy off at a trailhead, you drive to a trailhead a ways off. You both hike towards each other and the driver hands off the car keys to buddy. Buddy hikes to the car, hops in, and drives to pick the other guy up.
6. Two cars. Drivers drive to two different trailheads and hike towards each other. They swap car keys when they meet, and continue on.

Does anyone else feel like, IF he ended it all, he meant to deny Gabby's family closure?
I hadn't thought about it this way at all. In my opinion he is simply a coward. He's unwilling to face or accept consequences for what he's done. Of course, if he did or does end his own life it would hurt both families, but in different ways. I don't see the possibility of choosing to end his life as an act to deny Gabby's family closure.

Even IF BL is caught alive at some point; what are the chances he tells the absolute truth as to what happened to Gabby. Unless there is evidence to fit a different story, whose to say what story BL would tell is correct or not.
IMO MOO
My odds would be about 50/1 that he comes clean, should he be caught alive. There is nothing to gain for Brian, and that would be the driving force.

Perhaps even more remote odds, depending on the conjunction of the planets. Mood is everything to these kind of peoples.

I agree he is a coward, I just wonder if he would choose a trial for murder over suicide.

Yes, would be very difficult to follow the TAT without purchasing the paper maps or downloads. No GPS navigation system that I know of has an option for “dirt roads only”.
I wish there was one!
The above video shows the original route of the TAT, but the Trans America Trail “has since been modified by an open source community with start points on the New York and North Carolina coasts, and end points in Oregon and California.” Maybe Brian decided to cross from NC to California on back roads where no one would be looking for him, few people would even see him, and in a vehicle no one would recognize. If he was smart he would get ahold of a motorcycle and wear a helmet to cross the country. No way he’d be recognized then.
