How about not give him money, take away the car keys and warn him that they would tell ALL honestly if he left? Or he could stay and face the music for his own behavior, for choices he made and not ruin their lives too?
You have to wonder if his parents were/are afraid of him. Maybe they are well aware of his temper. So they wanted him to run?

Accidental could still fall under the definition of homicide. Homicide simply means death of a person by another person.

A homicide is a broad class of crimes where an individual takes the life of another individual. At common law, criminal homicide is divided into three categories: murder, voluntary manslaughter, and involuntary manslaughter.

Homicide Crimes: Murder

an accidental death could be considered manslaughter.
This is true. MOO. But, IMOO, accidents are NOT typically accompanied by going on the lam. Rather, they are more generally associated with making a straight bee-line to local LE.

Edit: Forgot "not" lol (Kind of an important word there)

I don't doubt her dad may have bought the van and paid the insurance. Maybe paid the property tax as well. Even without paying rent, earnings from jobs like Taco Bell only go so far. And we know GP and BL traveled to the west coast before the current trip. Both trips would have been expensive. Chances are they liked to do things like go out to eat even when not on cross-country trips.

And no, we don't know when GP got her FL license except it was before she was 21 since it was vertical. And to comply with the law, she'd have to have gotten it within 30 days of moving to Florida.

New Resident - Welcome to Florida!.

And you are right we don't know where she got her mail. But I'd think to get it in NY would have been pretty inconvenient. And dad didn't live in FL when she first got there.

None of us truly know what GP thought about much of anything. So we project our own thoughts and feelings onto her. But I know when I was 20-21 and didn't live at home, I would not have wanted all my mail to go to my parents' house. And honestly, I can't imagine living with someone yet not feeling it was enough of my home to get my mail there. But maybe that's what she thought. Sad.
JMO

My banking as well as credit cards is all online, not by mail.

And I'm betting GP's credit/debit card was also in the name of one of her parents and that's how they detected BL's theft so quickly. Most 20-21 yo have no credit history and that's an easy way to build credit while having a parent serve as a financial safety net. JMO

ITA - the only thing that makes sense is he killed her and ran home to the parents for further instruction and help - I think the phone records will tell the story from 8/27-8/31 - JMO
He had to know that there is a record of G's phone, whether he crunched it or not doesn't he? But maybe he had a burner phone for the trip home? Or just to talk to his parents? jmo

I'm several pages behind, but I wanted to weigh in on the discussion about what plausible story BL could have given his parents. A few days ago, another poster (I don't remember who!) brought up a new to me idea that I think covers all the bases: another DV call, but this time one or both of them got a restraining order.

This would explain suddenly coming back without GP ("you know she doesn't like to drive this van, so I drove and she flew to NY"). It would explain avoiding contact with GP or her family. It would even explain getting a lawyer involved. It's of course not true, but it would be a plausible story that accounts for what happened.

The conversation has probably moved on from this topic by now, but I just wanted to weigh in.

MOO

But BL knew he had stolen the van and used her card without permission. As a fugitive he cost the State of Florida over 2 million dollars (discussed on WFLA). At the very least, he or his parents would have to repay the State and:eek:r spend time in jail. I don’t think a lawyer would tell him to disappear on a hike for awhile. Very bad advice.
Have they charged him with stealing the van? I may have missed it. I think the only pending charges are for the credit card, right?

Imo - SB is viewing the possibility of murder charges as the much bigger issue right now.

They should have told their son to go turn himself into LE or get the **** out of their house.

This is what anyone in my family would have done to ANY member of my family who had committed a serious felony. They would have offered some support, but insisted that the family member wanted by LE to face up to what they had done and take responsibility. Instead they enabled him to be even more of a coward than he already was.

This isn't shoplifting or a DUI. This is murder and credit card fraud and he will not escape the FBI.

JMO
Maybe they did tell their son to get the **** out of their house. We don't know what was said between them. And I keep saying this, because I think it is critical: At the time BL left, Monday the 13th, BL had not been named a POI, nor charged with any crime.

Now what they did NOT do was return the Petitos' frantic phone calls, nor encourage their son to turn himself in, nor express their condolences to the Petito family once GP's body was discovered. And they didn't report BL missing for four days. So they have a lot to account for, IMHO, and I am certainly not going to condone any of it. I'm just saying, maybe they were in deep denial and truly did not believe their son capable of either the credit card fraud or, potentially, a homicide. JMHO

There may be an indictment for murder coming down the pike. I wonder how much things may change, if that happens before he is in custody? jmo

Agree. If they announce a COD tomorrow that coincides with any level or degree of murder, it could very well be tomorrow. It could already be filed under seal for all we know. MOO

You are correct. Still the same thought though that I can’t imagine a scenario where a lawyer says take a hike and stay out of sight while everyone is looking for you and it is costing millions of dollars.

Is this information supported anywhere else?

Cryptic last texts sent from Gabby Petito's phone to her mom, as cops search her hard drive | Daily Mail Online

While this text was not a typical message for Petito, investigators do believe she sent the Aug. 27 text.

However, they do believe the text sent from her phone on Aug. 30 was not actually written by Petito.
She sent it but didn’t write it? Doesn’t make sense. If she didn’t write it she wouldn’t send it.

So they believe this text was sent by Gabby? OR just from her phone?
"Can you help Stan, I just keep getting his voicemails and missed calls."

I'm on your page. MOO And, IMO the plan to do this (and the instruction and direction) started before he left WY. MOO. Not fact.

I have a question I would like to know the answer to but don't, and may never know: Did his parents also get new phones on or before 9/1 (not talking about BL, we know he didn't get it until 9/4), and if so, did they get it from a different carrier as I suspect BL did to make LE efforts to get data on his phone all that more difficult. If the parents were in fact assisting him prior to his departure, they too would have had to toss their phones. This is a thought only. Not fact. Just fleshing out plausible scenarios. MOO
