I think ER brought the items during the first 24 hours. An article from November 21st:

She said she had to have items with his scent brought from Colorado Springs. I presume that, if there were items with his scent in Vellacito it wouldn't have been necessary. :twocents:
ITA, also MR had a landline phone and a computer, so even if the phone was broken, Dylan could have phoned ER or CR or a friend, or gone on the computer and sent a message to someone.
Yes, items with Dylan's scent had to be brought from Colorado Springs, because the dogs couldn't get a good scent of him from anything in the house. It seems his clothes from the day before were taken with him. Possibly the pillow and blanket from the couch had been used by others and the scent...
Exactly! It's past time to put on the "big boy" pants. I always ask myself, "What would Marc Klaas do?"

This timeframe is one of the most unsettling aspects of the case, IMO. It has been said that MR went to Dylan's friend's house at some time after 3 PM and called ER around 4 or 4:30 to ask if she had heard from Dylan, IIRC. ER called LE. I'm not sure whether MR or ER phoned LE first. Maybe...
I have no link for this, but recall that a friend had mentioned that Dylan had been known to hitchhike in the past. There was one particular incident mentioned about Dylan a couple of friends being caught in a snowstorm coming back from somewhere (a library, IIRC), and that Dylan had gotten them...
Or they do know what to do next, but don't have the evidence required to do it. Unless something miraculous happens, given the snow and weather there, I don't think that there will be much activity on this case until spring, when LE may or may not resume searches. I can see this case going on...
That's exactly how I feel, too. And after doing that, I'd be calling the investigators at least twice a day, until they told me to leave them alone, too.
