The problem is if Dad took the phone as punishment then Dylan vanishes then you are not guilty so you would own up as that's a small concern than your son being kidnapped by a perp .

ITA, also MR had a landline phone and a computer, so even if the phone was broken, Dylan could have phoned ER or CR or a friend, or gone on the computer and sent a message to someone.

ER stated that there were no scent items and that someone was sent back on the weekend for them.

What I don't understand is why would they bring in the K9's if they had no scent articles on the Monday night and Tuesday. I would think they would send someone back immediately if that was required.

I can't believe a SAR team would waste not only their valuable time but everyone else's as well.

Perhaps they were cadaver dogs?

They used HRD dogs on the weekend.

As you state HRD train differently thus would not need scent items.

Why then did ER wait till the weekend to send someone for scent items?

ER is the only one that has stated that there were no scent articles for the K9's to use.

LE has never said this.

She said she had to have items with his scent brought from Colorado Springs. I presume that, if there were items with his scent in Vellacito it wouldn't have been necessary. :twocents:

Early on, I remember reading that there were clothes left on the sofa. Were these items not able to be used for the scent dogs because they were clean. laundered items? No tooth brush, no clothes from the prior day, no backpack, phone or charger, correct?

Then why wait till the weekend?

They used dogs starting on the Monday night. If that was your child would you not send someone else to retrieve scent items if LE required them immediately?

We do not know. It was said that a pair of sweat pants was taken by LE during the search ten days later, but not confirmed or said to be Dylan's. We know almost nothing, in fact.

I see where you're going with your thoughts. It's something I never thought of and an interesting scenario. I'm going to let that idea marinate in my brain for a while. It would take the help of some friends obviously.
I must say my first impression is no way...but who knows?

I fear that whatever may have been lost in the ten days that passed before LE performed a real search at the house has got them in a bind. I don't think they are able to prove whether Dylan was ever there or not. And I don't think they will be able to make progress, due to this fact.

Members of La Plata County Search & Rescue team using bloodhounds searched for the teen Monday night and Tuesday. The search area included the shoreline around Vallecito Lake, several small subdivisions, county roads, steep wooded hillsides and hiking trails. Many of the homes in the area are seasonal while some are occupied year around.

These bloodhounds were tracking dogs. The cadaver dogs were used at the lake, in boats. (Can't find the link now.)

Around Christmas, LE brought a bloodhound from New Mexico to try to track Dylan, saying that they can follow a scent for up to six weeks after the fact. The dog didn't find a scent.

In a recent development, a bloodhound from New Mexico searched the same areas in Vellacito gone over earlier by search teams and dogs, KOAT-TV in Albuquerque reported.

The bloodhound, the station report said, can detect a scent up to 6 weeks old. But the dog turned up nothing.

So, lots of dogs, but no luck. MR says he believes Dylan isn't in the area anymore.

I hope you are right because it would be the best odds that Dylan is fine and taken care of but this scenario seems rather rare to me.

Are there solved cases in which making someone look guilty turned out to be the motive?

I wish I could believe it was that simple. It would mean Dylan would be alive and safe.

Elaine had the clothing delivered the weekend after the Monday Dylan went missing -

But the family had articles of the boy’s clothing delivered on the weekend.

When they arrived, LE said they didn't need them, but could use them later. This gave me the impression there was no pressing need for them, and that makes me think that there were scent items from the house. LE never said they didn't have scent items. This is just my opinion, of course.

Elaine is clearly doing everything she can to bring her son home. Whatever the outcome i hope she can get answers and some piece of mind here for her family and friends .

And with LE not acting or talking as though there is a random offender out there...people start to lose interest IMO. Everyone is interested if there is the idea of a "boogie man" taking children. But LE is not indicating that this is the case at all. I hope they know what they are doing.
