Because if she had three cans, then she had enough to go all the way to Mesa and get to Nevada without ever stopping for gas.

If she had three cans, she could not have possibly used all the gas she said she filled up with -- including two stops at gas stations between Pasadena and Mesa, for which there are no receipts.

Jinx ;)

Ok I'm behind. But why is the third gas can so important?

Blatant bald faced lie to the jury over and over

Premeditation

Intent to conceal where she was

You can't legally put gas in a kerosene can. Gas can is red, kero can is blue....tell me where I'm going with this....a gas can and kero can are two different things. Did she buy clear kero to burn evidence?

What's up with the tire service charge? Did she own a car at this time? Did something happen to the rental car's tire that she had to get repaired?

:waitasec:

I believe that is where the BMW was being held after she blew it up. Maybe she was paying some kind of storage fee.

I do not think anyone is going to call Matt to testify because he is going to plead the 5th, and also because he has put it in writing that he would lie for Jodi.

However, I think this is why Juan keeps hammering on the point that Matt is so loyal to Jodi and he's an ally and would never betray her -- I think Juan is pre-emptively trying to paint Matt as an unreliable witness because he's on the defense witness list.

Can't the prosecution call him in rebuttal and offer him immunity ?

That's what I was wondering also. I know that you're not allowed to put gasoline in a kerosene can, but don't know if gas stations enforce that or if there is some safety measure that prevents a gas nozzle from being inserted into a kerosene can. Anyone know?

I wonder if sticky substance got in the hard drive and corrupted it

Wouldn't she have had to smash it to pieces and scratch up the hard disc to actually make it unreadable?

You know...I have to say that it was interesting the way he posed the question to Jodi. If my memory serves me correctly he said something like "Would it surprise you that Walmart doesn't have any record of you returning anything on that day?" - paraphrasing there, but he didn't say definitively that he actually had contacted Walmart. Just something that made pause and wonder if he was bluffing.

I am sure most people have endured the Walmart return/exchange trip to the service counter in last 10 years. (policies are worldwide)
In my experience you Need a receipt for Proof of a Cash transaction Prior to handing back Cash (best to have the receipt in hand but IF same day purchase the actual register can be be revisited on occasion) also Must be documented regardless in their computer systems whether you kept the receipt and/or a new receipt is generated cash or credit under $25..

They could try to compel him to testify by giving him immunity, but I don't think they would.

Absolutely. She wanted no trace of ever being in Arizona. Purchases on credit card everywhere but there.

And repeatedly lying about something as innocuous as a gas can. She should never have saved that Walmart receipt! Thankfully she did.

I had to work in the afternoon and missed Nurmi, as well as the discussion here. This was probably discussed, but there was one jury question in particular from what I heard that really stood out to me. I don't remember the exact words used, but the basic idea was this:

Q: you said that you weren't sure if you shot him or not after the gun went off and he fell on you. The last thing you remember is him yelling obsenities and trying to grab at you. Then you come out of your fog in the desert and are covered in blood. If this is the case, you don't know if he is dead or alive, or what had happened after you blacked out. Why didn't you call the police to check on him?

A: I knew something very bad had happened... (again one of her rehearsed lines she has used ad nauseum)

----
To me, that question nailed home the fact that her story makes no sense. Even if we are to believe things happened as she said they did, if she doesn't remember anything after the gun going off and him falling on her, then common sense says you would call the police to report it.

I once read somewhere..."A mother is only as happy as her unhappiest child"...God bless you for your struggles and your work. I still think Jodi is guilty and her crime is unspeakably horrible, but I can also see your unique insight here, and this is a sad story all the way around. It is also scary to know that there are many other "Jodi's" out there...and more born every day.

For Mormon Attorney...sorry. tried to link, I'm still a newbie at this:blushing:

I'm a little confused. Why would she fill up the gas cans in Salt Lake City -- after she murdered Travis.

I speculated that she ditched the gas cans somewhere in the desert because they were never returned to DB. Her car was full of gas - so what was the need for more gas if she was going home and there was no need to cover her arss at that point?

Thanks,

Mel

I'm not convinced that she had ditched everything at this point. Apparently, the rental car was returned with a smoke smell that was never noticed by Leslie Udy and there is a lot of elapsed time in her trip from Sparks NV to Redding CA ( 26 hours when the drive takes far less). IMO, Arias had a little bonfire somewhere between Sparks and Redding.

My husband just came into the room. NG is on TV and I was wiping my eyes (he thought I was crying). He said, "Crying for Travis Anderson, huh?"

Apparently he hasn't been paying any attention to this trial.

Around here if a cashier sees you with a blue can near the gas pump, they will stop you fast. #1 white kero is a separate pump, not far from the others usually. The nozzles are the same but you pump it same as gas. I noticed the receipt mentioned Kero but maybe that is the name of the brand? Stupid idea if it is.I am referring to the WM receipt, not the gas receipts.

I don't think they need him either, unless he has knowledge of the actual murder or possibly the burglary at the grandparent's house.

I can't wait to hear what Matt has to add. Jodi was sure trying to get the message to him not to sing. 5 days she has to try and conjure ways to contact Matt. It'll never happen, but she'll still stew over it.

I hope Jodi's under suicide watch lock down. I invested enough into her show that I deserve to see the final curtain. After the sentencing, she can do whatever she wants, but until then.......
